Definitely. Seems likely the game will drop sometime before whenever we get Bond 26. Of course I know it's sacrilege to even suggest something could top GoldenEye 64, but something more story-oriented and strong of a campaign would be more up my alley. I love GoldenEye, but for me it's really more about the multiplayer than the campaign. I haven't played a ton of other ones; the DS, PS2, and Wii versions of QOS (didn't care for them much), some of Nightfire which I liked. But that middle era on the GameCube/PS2 did seem to be the best for quality and quantity from what I understand.
Of course, we don't know when the next film will drop, but between the game at some point in the next few years and at least two new books next year, there is quite a bit coming our way to tide us over. Plus, with the re-cast, the pre-production of Bond 26 will also be quite exciting.
@ImpertinentGoon, I guess I'm just a different breed, when it comes to what I look forward to Bond-wise. The books do nothing for me, as I haven't enjoyed any I've read and at the end of the day I'm always left wondering why I'm reading what amount to fan fictions and not just going back to Fleming's work, which is what really matters to me. I respect the writers that want to take Bond and do their thing with him in book form, but the result just never does anything for me as there is no true authenticity to it. I'm kind of Fleming or bust when it comes to that.
As for the next film and the production schedule, I will try to keep as unspoiled as possible, so I won't even go near any of that speculation in the lead up. Maybe I'll be a bit more flexible, given that it will be a fresh start and I won't care as much what's next, but I still think I'll want to go into a new Bond as filtered as I did with NTTD, which I wanted to be fresh as possible. It just makes the experience so much more profound to truly be surprised, which is hard to do when you post on a Bond forum dissecting everything released about a film. When the time comes, I may have to take another hiatus, depending how I feel. We'll see.
Bond games are the big draw for me, as I love it as a hobby and it's the only media where you can actually be Bond, which is the whole fantasy we have. Games really are a sweet spot that can get us as close to the "Bond experience" as anything else, and I can't wait to get my hands on it.
I absolutely get where you are coming from. Especially with the films. I very much enjoyed all the speculation and theorizing on here in the lead-up to NTTD. During Covid and the constant delays this really was a bit of a bright-spot. But I can't help but feeling like I robbed myself a tiny bit. On my first view, there was always a tiny voice in the back of my head going "knew that", "already saw that", "oh, that's new", "already saw that". Well, no use crying over spilled milk. Maybe I'll be able to keep away from the production thread and all the YouTube dissections of trailers and whatnot, but I doubt it.
As for games: I actually don't really have a connection to the Bond games. I think the only one I have ever played was QoS, because my parents got me that as the first game together with the XBox 360 I got as my first ever console. And I don't think I made it past the first level on that. May have to dust the old console off sometime.
But I am seriously looking forward to this one. And I am certain IOI can put out something fantastic.
I was following the SF production a bit back in the day, but found out a few details I wish I didn't through the discussion of the production and felt rubbish about it. There were even members back then who were taking the clapper boards and set photos and were attempting to string together the chronological "plot" of the film via location, and that was when I realized I was in the wrong place. I want to feel the excitement of a new movie, but I don't want to dissect it so much that I feel like I've already seen it by the time I go to the theater. That is just silly and illogical to me, counter to everything I want to experience from a Bond film. In the lead up to SP I watched the trailer/s, but didn't get engrossed in the production from what I can remember and obviously with NTTD I was the hell out of here.
I don't think it's an accident I enjoyed NTTD so much, and that is definitely in large part because I avoided as much as I could. Didn't look up anything Bond related on YouTube, so no Bond news or speculation videos of any kind fell under my recommended, avoiding talking about the film with literally anyone, and just kept my head down. It's as hard as it gets these days, what with the internet's proclivity to spoil everything for you regardless of if you've had the time to watch and enjoy a piece of media, and it's such a sour drawback. I feel very blessed that the only thing I got a sneak of was Felix returning, but I had no context to it at all. With so much left open to my imagination, the film was able to emotionally eviscerate me, and I loved every second of it.
Hopefully we get more in a year from now
Not going to hold my breath on it, but a glimpse at the Game Awards in a few weeks would be awesome.
Yes they did, which excited me even more and I think is a better way to go, at least for the story mode. Having skins of all the Bond actors as an extra / DLC would be pretty cool though.
Nevertheless, I would love to see Jason Masters's Bond serve as an inspiration.
We don’t know what they really mean by origin, of course. Is it like CR, where he is an accomplished agent in his thirties, who finally reached 00 or is it more like the Origins comics, where he is basically still a teenager?
I, personally think they won’t go with a big name, mainly because I assume the release of the game and the announcement of the next cinematic Bond actor will not be very far apart and EON don’t want that muddled.
And it worked well, both in the performance and the game. Spider-Man PS4 is one of the best games I’ve played in the last couple of years.
That would be awesome! It would be funny if you could create your own Bond from different elements of Bond actors, create an amalgamation like Agent Under Fire, lol
Anytime they go “Generic” for Bond when it comes to the games, the final models are all some of my favorite looks of the character himself. I would’ve loved to have played an entire game as the Bond from Goldeneye Rogue Agent, he looked like a mix between Dalton and Brosnan.
For Fleming's sake? Is this the ultimate compliment or the ultimate disrespect? ;)
Just a sign of my mild frustration. ;-)
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but one of the few things we know is that it is going to be an origin story:
That, plus the teaser video and a link to their recruitment page is pretty much all there is on the official website.
While I trust IOI to put out a great game and I like having an original Bond for the game(s) in principle, I recently had the thought that video games would be the perfect vehicle to close the gap between QoS and Skyfall. Give us a few missions with Craig-Bond in his prime. Maybe even do a bit of a spackling job on the overarching storyline by bringing in SPECTRE earlier and connecting Quantum a bit better and so on.
I guess Craig is done with the role and they wouldn't want to undermine a new actor by putting out new products with the old guy, but I can dream, can't I?
Something innovative like that would certainly be within the capabilities of modern games. Many other franchises have long offered this functionality, even in games arguably more systematically complex than a Bond game would presumably be (Fallout? Skyrim?). Large-scale RPG fare.
When I start a new campaign/character in one of those games, I'll typically spend a good amount of time customizing the character's look before I begin. Sometimes (hilariously) right down to the placement of the eyebrows and cheekbones!
And even though the character model in the Hitman games is a constant, customization of the elements around him (wardrobe, weapons, other cosmetics) was certainly in-depth enough to suggest IOI is comfortable using such systems.
It could be a supremely interesting direction to take the games from the perspective of user experience and input. Imagine being able to create a Bond you identify with even more because the character looks...like you.
I do imagine the same old system from Hitman will be there, where before each mission you can outfit Bond with all kinds of gear and choose how to dress him. I hope that the game is deep enough that there will be multiple ways to execute missions, giving you the space to go all out or focus more on stealth. It would also be cool if the way you dressed had an impact on your ability to complete a mission easier, such as using a disguise or just going in a standard suit into the field.
