ANOTHER WAY TO DIE
From Quantum of Solace
Performed by JACK WHITE & ALICIA KEYS.
Four bottom finishes were noted for QOS’s title track, along with seven more bottom 5’s.
This one does have a few fans though, it reached a 7th finish on two occasions, as well as one 9th and one 10th spot.
AWTD collected 62 points in total.
Though I fear something like CR theme '67 will be heading for the chopping block shortly. Though I have that placed much lower myself.
TWINE is pretty well regarded (I thoroughly enjoy it), so I can't imagine it'll be out for a while. Then again it took four bloody slots to take out the series' absolute worst monstrosity of a "song", so who knows what'll happen from here on out?!?!?!
My least favorite Bond song, and the only one I really dislike. As I said earlier, I don't care for Sam Smith's vocals in WOTW, but I can live with them and overall I don't hate the song, as the strength of the composition outweighs the weaknesses in his singing (which at any rate is way better than the singing in AWTD).
You wanna know how bad AWTD is? Try this: delve down into the deepest bowels of your soul. Try to imagine the ultimate f****n nightmare. And that won't come close to this son of a b**** song when it gets started.
"Okay, but mattjoes, tell us what you really think, don't hold back."
Anyway, for me, it's smooth sailing from here on out with the Bond songs. I like all of the remaining ones, and most of them I really like.
I didn't know this cover, only the one from the CD/digital single. It's really cool.
I dont go along with the hate for AWTD, had it at 15. I like it, apart from bloody Alicia Keys!!, and it suits MK12 excellent title sequence!
Tadaada tadaada
Ping ping ping
Boom boom boom boom boom boom
Tadaada tadaada
Yeah yeah, get it over with, already.
Then some voices in the back, a lot of shouting, a lot of meaningless "whoooooOOOOOooo!" and some BANG BANG BANG BANG.
It really is one of the worst.
CASINO ROYALE THEME
From Casino Royale (1967)
Performed by HERB ALPERT & THE TIJUANA BRASS.
Clearly the winner in the non-EON duel with his own wife’s NSNA, and also triumphing over three official entries, Herb comes in at number 23 with the first of four instrumental title tracks in this contest.
Some remarkable finishes included one 6th place, as well as one 12th and one 13th spot. Though most notable of all it obtained one 2nd placement, making it the lowest ranked medalist of the whole contest.
Not all went well though, three last places were noted, in addition to a total of eight more bottom 5’s.
CR67’s theme managed to collect a total of 62 points, drawing with AWTD, but claiming one spot higher due to its silver medal.
I had it at number 21....but I really like it (and the rest of the CR'67 soundtrack).
Had Al at 17, reasonable postion!
Back in the day, lots of big boys stared for hours at this album cover.
PS. Lots of little boys too.
:))
Now I'm looking at Garbage, Glady's or Lulu next. Either is fine by me.
It's simply uncanny how well the track plays over the OP sequence. :^o
Wow, I really liked that one!
There is actually a version on YouTube of CR'67 title style (and theme) being used for Craig's initial film. I'm sure that you' will love that as well. :))
Now onto our number 22:
THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN
From The Man with the Golden Gun
Performed by LULU.
Lulu’s title song for TMWTGG received one last place and seven more bottom 5’s.
Nine participants gave it a place in their top 20, the highest ranking was an 8th place, on one occasion.
In total TMWTGG’s title song obtained 65 points.
I'll split the difference and put forth that if the main song had more of THIS feel, it would at least escape that pit of awfulness that DAD and AWTD also sit in, even if it didn't rank any higher on my list.
The main song is screechy thanks to Lulu's atrocious performance, and kind of cartoonishly arranged by Barry.
