As already anticipated by many, our number 24 is:

    ANOTHER WAY TO DIE
    From Quantum of Solace
Performed by JACK WHITE & ALICIA KEYS.

    71RV-v4uyML._SL1500_.jpg

Four bottom finishes were noted for QOS’s title track, along with seven more bottom 5’s.

This one does have a few fans though, it reached a 7th finish on two occasions, as well as one 9th and one 10th spot.

AWTD collected 62 points in total.

If Garbage and TWINE come in next, then the bottom five are almost exactly the same as mine.
Though I fear something like CR theme '67 will be heading for the chopping block shortly. Though I have that placed much lower myself.

AWTD is 7th for me. It’s one kick ass song and really gets me in the zone for what’s about to come. I love it.

TWINE is pretty well regarded (I thoroughly enjoy it), so I can't imagine it'll be out for a while. Then again it took four bloody slots to take out the series' absolute worst monstrosity of a "song", so who knows what'll happen from here on out?!?!?!

AWTD was a disaster to say the least. A few bad musical calls piled up. Not a big fan.

It's definitely lower-tier, but nowhere near as disliked as TMWTGG and DAD for me.

The recently returned Brady made me realize AWTD isn't an awful song if you're ignoring the vocals. Every once in a while I listen to the instrumental. It's not a great song by any means, but it's enjoyable enough, a little grating in a couple of spots (like when the brass falls at 2:43), but it's got some grit to it, and the intro/outro is really cool. But add the vocals and it completely sucks. The singing of both Keys and White is annoying, especially when they're shouting, and more so when they're shouting together. Also, Jack White's voice is so weird, it makes me think he's not a human being but a gremlin. And the most irritating part of the song is, of course, the part from 2:12 to 2:56, especially at 2:47 when Keys starts to have a brain aneurysm in front of the mic, making these stupid noises. Surely they could have stopped the recording session and taken her to a hospital?

My least favorite Bond song, and the only one I really dislike. As I said earlier, I don't care for Sam Smith's vocals in WOTW, but I can live with them and overall I don't hate the song, as the strength of the composition outweighs the weaknesses in his singing (which at any rate is way better than the singing in AWTD).

You wanna know how bad AWTD is? Try this: delve down into the deepest bowels of your soul. Try to imagine the ultimate f****n nightmare. And that won't come close to this son of a b**** song when it gets started.

"Okay, but mattjoes, tell us what you really think, don't hold back."

Anyway, for me, it's smooth sailing from here on out with the Bond songs. I like all of the remaining ones, and most of them I really like.

I didn't know this cover, only the one from the CD/digital single. It's really cool.

Was just about to say the same about that cover. Pretty cool.
I dont go along with the hate for AWTD, had it at 15. I like it, apart from bloody Alicia Keys!!, and it suits MK12 excellent title sequence!

AWTD annoys me from start to finish. Everything @mattjoes said I would subscribe to.

Think about the instrumental section before the first word is song. What is going on there? That build-up takes forever. It's chaotic freewheeling, nothing more. Every time the vocals should logically kick in, the music slows down, turns left and goes for another build-up. This endless intro is even worse than Tomorrow Never Dies'.

    Tadaada tadaada
    Ping ping ping
Boom boom boom boom boom boom
    Tadaada tadaada

Yeah yeah, get it over with, already.

Then some voices in the back, a lot of shouting, a lot of meaningless "whoooooOOOOOooo!" and some BANG BANG BANG BANG.

It really is one of the worst.

Yeah. They actually improved a bit on the song by shortening the intro in the film version.

Completing our bottom 5, but with its head held high is:

    CASINO ROYALE THEME
    From Casino Royale (1967)
Performed by HERB ALPERT & THE TIJUANA BRASS.

    herb_alpert_the_tijuana_brass-casino_royale_s_1.jpg

Clearly the winner in the non-EON duel with his own wife’s NSNA, and also triumphing over three official entries, Herb comes in at number 23 with the first of four instrumental title tracks in this contest.

Some remarkable finishes included one 6th place, as well as one 12th and one 13th spot. Though most notable of all it obtained one 2nd placement, making it the lowest ranked medalist of the whole contest.

Not all went well though, three last places were noted, in addition to a total of eight more bottom 5’s.

CR67’s theme managed to collect a total of 62 points, drawing with AWTD, but claiming one spot higher due to its silver medal.

26th for me. I'm a bit surprised I had it that low but this is an odd contest, considering how much I love almost all of these songs.

I had it at 13th. I think it's a pretty fun and lush piece of music. Though, as I've remarked previously, my favourite thing about it has nothing to do with the film or the credits sequence, but rather a gag in Mad Men.

This. I like the string backing that appears occasionally.

A great and awesome track. It's not Bond, but it's hard to dislike it. A great and essential part of a great score.
  • This is exactly where I ranked Alpert's Casino Royale, and my bottom five are out as well. Looking at Lulu now...

Ah, I love me a bit of Herb Alpert, listen to his 'Best of' album whenever I need cheering! And his CR theme is really catchy, which is something you cant say about some of the official themes!
Had Al at 17, reasonable postion!

Back in the day, lots of big boys stared for hours at this album cover.

PS. Lots of little boys too.

Oh no, a little to early for CR'67 to bow out. I had it at 17th. A great piece of music to go with a bonkers film.
Now I'm looking at Garbage, Glady's or Lulu next. Either is fine by me.

This song always cheers me up. Not particularly Bondian, but so late 60ies, a delight! That cover popped up on my Deezer account and I never saw the whipped cream - the image was too small and I thought it was a wedding dress. Funny.

It's simply uncanny how well the track plays over the OP sequence. :^o

Before we reveal today’s participant, I came across this Bond medley, covering all EON title songs (though with WHATTITW and Monro’s FRWL instead of those films’ title tracks), and thought it was worth sharing:

There is actually a version on YouTube of CR'67 title style (and theme) being used for Craig's initial film. I'm sure that you' will love that as well. :))

    Glad you enjoyed it @DarthDimi!

    Now onto our number 22:

THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN
From The Man with the Golden Gun
    Performed by LULU.

    R-1440724-1480024569-2296.jpeg.jpg

Lulu’s title song for TMWTGG received one last place and seven more bottom 5’s.

Nine participants gave it a place in their top 20, the highest ranking was an 8th place, on one occasion.

In total TMWTGG’s title song obtained 65 points.

#15 for me. Barry’s weakest effort is still quite enjoyable, although I much prefer it in its instrumental variation ‘Goodnight Goodnight’.

I'll split the difference and put forth that if the main song had more of THIS feel, it would at least escape that pit of awfulness that DAD and AWTD also sit in, even if it didn't rank any higher on my list.

The main song is screechy thanks to Lulu's atrocious performance, and kind of cartoonishly arranged by Barry.
