The Bond producers must be gutted to lose out on Ferguson and Vanessa Kirby as well, two brilliant actors with great screen presence
Yes, although I think his wife was much improved in Fallout and became someone you could believe Ethan would fall in love with in that.
The way MacQuarrie tidied her character away in his films was rather brilliantly satisfying, I thought. It's very clever how he reminds/tells the audience that Ethan has a wife in the opening dream sequence too (at the same time as establishing Ethan's nuclear fears and concerns over the villain; plus a dream sequence makes the fantasy flashforward where he murders a policeman in Paris acceptable to the audience in the style of the film - there's so much going on here!); I'm not sure the recent Bond films have always kept in mind that the audience might not remember, or even have seen, the previous film.
Thanks buddy :)
Yep completely agree. I love the backstory they gave Julia, it was well thought out and satisfying. I like the idea that Ethan supposedly went rogue off screen
Yes, he actually made it believable that these people would never meet again and be happy with that, whilst managing never to undermine his predecessor's work on the love plot of MI3. That's very skillful.
That's only because they had him manning a radar tower in Alaska for the last five films; they just mailed him his clothes.
Oh please no.
He's basically a Cruise clone (not that I want to ever see Holland's Eyes Wide Shut, oh god).
Not even close.
I guess there will be a reason as McQ always seems to believe that old characters only work if the story supports them, but I guess if the IMF needs a boss figure it may as well be him as I’d argue he’s probably still the most memorable. And he survived, unlike some of the others! :)
That'd be a certified way to ensure I never watched another installment in the series. Dude's one of the least charismatic "stars" I've ever seen and one of the few actors whose works I actively try to avoid as often as possible.
Tom Holland is getting too overexposed, which arguably is going to hurt him soon. I’m tired of Hollywood casting and overhyping the MCU leads. A lot of them are one note actors. It’s like Chris Pratt (big shutters) taking over as Indiana Jones: there’s someone less hyped that can do it better. And if Tom Holland is trying to hard to copy another actor, it’s Michael J. Fox. Even he once said his Spider-Man is basically based on Marty McFly.
As for MI, I wouldn’t be surprised if they did reboot it and make Jim Phelps the (good) team leader again.
I'm feeling the same way, @MakeshiftPython. Leo, Pitt, Depp, Cruise, ... all went through that phase. Unless a "heartthrob" actor goes "art" with a respected director really fast, he'll have to bear the brunt of mockery for a while. It's almost a hazing ritual.
That would be perfect. It was such a great way to end Ocean's 11
Also good point @mtm I forgot they need a boss after Fallout
I would like each member to depart and leave Ilsa and Ethan as the last two and the audience thinking will they leave together? A different type of cliff hanger
Originally it was a navigational term, determining the position of a ship or plane, just by using distance travelled and speed rather than using something like landmarks or stars.
It's old fashioned term, what it means in relation to the film I have no idea
Probably multiple meanings, including a hint as to the
“ MacGuffin”
I'm guessing it'll be more applicable to the former term there then, considering some of the other details I've heard about for both of these installments (will put it in spoiler tags in case some don't want to hear anything more):
