Does anyone think the motorbike stunt and train looks a little too CGI heavy?

They both look great to me. The only thing that struck me as odd were the close up shots of Czerny and Cruise. They almost look ungraded - they're very flat and washed out. But, they are in a white room that I'm guessing has had some sort of smoke attack or something like that. You can kind of see the wisps in the air.

I do agree that the train closeups are dodgy, possibly a homage to the first MI. Lol.

Ethan performing some sleight of hand, a possible reference to the first film?

I love all of Ethan's ridiculous skills, like the perfect drawings of peoples' faces, lip reading, magic tricks, photographic memory etc. They should definitely lean into that; it's sort of his thing to match Bond's gadgets.
But that also made it quite fun in Fallout where it turned out the one thing he didn't know how to do was fly a helicopter :)

Yes, not really superb shots to open a trailer on, cinematography-wise. Very flat lighting, like a Marvel film.

A huge office/warehouse with rows and rows of people using type writers? Thoughts ? a dream? fascinating

Could be some old school, secret setup that's totally disconnected from modern day tech.

all the typists are wearing the same clothes - something almost "Prisoneresque"? love it.

That trailer looks amazing , better than recent Bond I would say . Whatever Direction Bond goes in next , there will at least be these films to look forward to the next couple years !

Which is, funnily enough for such a hi-tech series like MI, something that Cruise and McQuarrie do like: all of those vinyl, reel-to-reel bits of tech popping up; now there's a steam train and biplanes in the next one- whilst Bond goes to the future, MI goes oddly retro :)

McQ is a huge fan of the glory days of Hollywood. You can see that clearly

+1. She is underrated, hopefully this will get her more exposure. I just wish we could have gotten her in Bond.

Ana and Lea are way more beautiful and classy, imo.

A friend of mine keep saying he’s a modern Alfred Hitchcock. I get his point but I don’t think that’s correct. Anyway he’s a very good director even tho he’s not that great with actors, which is unusual for a former screenwriter.

He's a fan of Hitchcock and many of that era but his directing style is nothing like Hitchcock. The Stearman in Part 2 and THE best hollywood runner leads us directly to North by Northwest.
A couple of years ago he was tweeting aboout his love of The Train and how Lancaster did all his own stunts and we may see that in Part 1.

Random thought: if it wasn't for Cruise running and jumping around that could’have easily been a JB film trailer. It feels like SP meets the Mummy starring the Ethan Hunt family.

    Agreed on Ana, at least.

I get a giggle out of these things in the John Wick films, too. High tech, shiny assassin movies that also feature old, spectacled women in musky rooms typing kill orders on typewriters and then using fax machines! :)

For the last 3 MI films, as well as this one, I’ve said to myself,” this would have made a great Bond film.

This is a big part of why they've managed to do quite well for themselves. A lot of people will simply dismiss them as an ego trip on the part of the main star, but the truth is that they do well because they are well-made, entertaining action films with a great cast across the board.

This trailer is basically a nod to the Bond saga.

For me, the action in this series has been trumping Bond for quite some time.

Knowing that Cruise learned to fly a helicopter just to make it look like Ethan can't, makes that sequence more impressive.

The yellow car chase looks clearly like an homage to FYEO. Love that.

The cinematography is breathtaking. It’s like NTTD but even more vibrant. The use of such lush colours is something one rarely sees in Hollywood.

If you can't beat them, hire their personnel ? McQuarrie ? Writers ? Cinematographers ? Editors ?

Much as I'd love him to - I'm not sure anyone else around at the moment quite knows their way around a blockbuster like he does- I don't think he ever would. I think it's a bit of a loyalty thing, and he's a Mission guy. He is Mission.

McQuarry is a great action director but let’s not forget that what makes the M:I’s action so wonderful is Tom doing all his stuff without any stuntman, and there’s only one Tom Cruise.

I think with a physically active Bond, a Gareth Evans directed Bond could raise the bar when it comes to action. The Raid had some unbelievable fight sequences.

The series is a product of a very strong writer/director and a dynamic actor/ producer who gives 100%, expects the same from the rest of the creative team and values the importance of a film being seen in a theater.

    Um, Denis Villeneuve?

I don't know if I'd call his stuff blockbusters exactly, although I know he's done a couple of big budgeters now. But they're not really the Friday night, popcorn munchers like the M:I films.

If I had to pick a day, I'd say they're more suited to Sunday evenings. Can't quite put my finger on why.
