Sauron is possibly the greatest villain ever created its difficult to mess his character up.
Yes, he's that great. So lots of great ways to go with him.
Th writers were quite vague so he will likely appear in later seasons, though the writers clearly wanted to pair up two other characters in his absence.
He's a "huge" character ? Really ? I mean, he looks strong and stout, but huge ?
Spoilers!
Halbrand’s theme in reverse is Sauron’s theme!

I am really not sure about this, though the team involved are very good.
I think my investment and interest lies in the original trilogy - the Hobbit trilogy got progressively worse as it went along, while I have zero interest in the Amazon series - but Serkis having this level of control while he returns to the world is pretty promising. I just hope they have enough pre-production time and resources to put into it.
When it comes to Tolkien I want to see his writing taken from the page as best possible put on to the screen.
The Rings of Power has a lot of issues though it mostly failed for me because they totally missed the point and messed around with characters and turned them into something they were not.
Gollum movie? he is dead and we already know his back story, off the top of my head I can't think of anything else that is worth exploring with the character, this smack's of a Han Solo movie which was totally pointless.
I might be wrong and it ends up being good... we will see I guess.
I fear that last sentence is exactly right. We'll never see the likes of that original trilogy again, I think, no matter how hard they try.
Jackson's LOTR's Trilogy will never be surpassed, one of the reasons being if someone tried to make them today they would not have a cast of that magnitude and it would be a cgi fest for sure.
When this thread gets bumped, the post above is all I can think of.
I will watch it, I want to see Sauron causing havoc.
Edited: The first 3 episodes are decent enough, the third being the most engaging. the horror and violence is OK and the fantasy visuals are good. Watching Sauron manipulate these fools is amusing.
