WOW. Even though my rankings (vs. the group) have been all over the place, all of my top ten selections are still in the running.
  • Would have been nice to have seen YOLT make the top 10. Had this one at 5th myself. I love the iconography of the fan designs and the lava flowing and bursting in the background. Binder capitalized fully on the potential of the theme here, IMO. Works beautifully with the song by Nancy Sinatra too as others have noted.

So the top 10 will consist of the following:
    DN
    FRWL
    GF
    TB
    OHMSS
    TSWLM
    GE
    CR '06
    SF
    NTTD

8 out of my top 10 are still in the race.

Same here. Only SF and FRWL weren t in it, but I put them in the top 15.
  • There's only one remaining that I had ranked very low.

As Calvin Dyson once said in a video, while the poor resolution of the volcano stock footage is unfortunate, he also can't much fault Binder for not walking up next to some erupting volcanos and shooting the footage himself :)) :))

The two that didn’t make it finished 11th and 12th so not too shabby 😃

The remaining top 10 are all great Bond films too!

Top 10 time, starting with our number 10:

    NO TIME TO DIE
    Main title sequence designed by
    DANIEL KLEINMAN

    HD5vxoV_d.webp?maxwidth=640&shape=thumb&fidelity=medium

Our latest addition to the Bond title sequence history, NTTD manages to secure a top 10 spot.

There was one gold medal for NTTD, as well as one silver medal. Additional top 10’s were: two 6th, one 7th, two 8th, one 9th and three 10th places.

There was only one occasion that resulted in a place outside the top 20, the only bottom 5 for NTTD: a single 25th place.

NTTD’s main title sequence acquired a total of 97 points, winning the toss-up over YOLT thanks to its one gold medal.

Big shoutout also to @MonsieurMerci for the above image. Merci, @MonsieurMerci ;)

I had NTTD in exactly this spot! I feel Kleinman got his mojo back after the disappointing darkness of SP and SF ( which is still bloody there!)
Kleinman is great when he uses colour, and its used beautifully here. Love the use of the hourglass and the Noh masks! Was pleasantly surprised on seeing these titles, great job!

18th for me. It is allright. Just like the film it is quite confusing with too many elements tanken from other Bond films Like the dots from Dr No that so not seem to make any sense ...

Good to see that these titles have done so well. I think it's a pretty powerful sequence.

I think the Noh masks are the weakest part of the sequence but on the whole it's packed with really strong, well-realised visuals. Madeleine and James on the clock hands and the gun double helix being my favourites. And for me the Dr No dots are a timeless classic, a really simple graphical element that's perfectly updated to realise their full potential with the CGI fluttering and the 'rouge et noir' colouring harkening back to CR. Also yeah @Mathis1 I agree the return of colour is very welcome and for as many saturated colours as there are Kleinman balances them really well.

17th for me. Some of it feels out of place or cartoonish as hell but when it's good, it's really good. They're easily my third favorite of the Craig era, at least.

#8 on my list. I was very happy to see such bright colours.

The dots are awesome. A wonderful beginning of the sequence (of course, only in my opinion).
The guns/helix combination was a great idea and I also love the moment where the end of the clock is ploughing through the sand.
I also like the "plants growing in/on the skin. A link to the poisonous plants (?) and also a link to the pregnancy.

This was my number one. It's colorful, attractive, and represents the film well without indulging in any of the extremely literal-minded imagery Kleinman sometimes practices.

It was Kleinman s best since CR.

I'd agree, but still not up to his best. With SF onward they have become more focused on presenting the film in miniature, rather than just sticking with a theme (ice & scorpions, oil, poker, etc.), which I am not a big fan of.

Totally agree! I dont know whether its Kleinmans idea or the Producers! SP was more guilty, particularly showing the Spectre meeting, hence the reason why I think both of Mendes movies sre Kleinmans weakest!
  • Swimming against the current here. 25th for me.

The Dr. No dots leading into the sequence are cool. Watching that in theaters I seriously thought (and was hoping) the titles were going to be one long montage based on the themes, color schemes, and visuals of every film in the series up to that point. I thought that would be seriously cool and just the kind of nostalgic thing they would go for. The Thunderball bit gave me a small amount of hope they were still going to do it, just out of order. But then they didn’t, and it just turned out to be random references to DN, TB, and (a little less random) OHMSS.

Did I dislike the titles simply because I was hoping for something else? I don’t think that was quite it either. The colors certainly popped, but I didn’t see how any of them went together or how they fit the look or the tone of the movie. The whole 3D marble statue thing had been done before by Marvel and felt like a random and borrowed “gimmick” here. The only thing that felt fresh and really grabbed me about these titles was the Walther PPK double helix. But overall, this felt like the most disjointed title sequence of the series and a surprising step down for Kleinman.

But others dig it, so I guess I really just did not connect with them. Maybe this one will grow on me, but unlike with the films themselves, my first impressions of the title sequences tend to be pretty lasting. I’m not sure I can think of any (maybe with the exception of Spectre) where I either really liked or really didn’t like one at first and later changed my mind.

Spot on. It's why I've been very unimpressed and tired of the last three title sequences. I'd love to see someone else take the helm in this department during the next era.

On my first viewing of NTTD this was more or less the one thing I disliked. I would've had this fairly low in my list if we had done this game at the beginning of October.

But now I'm the silver medal. Absolutely sublime work.

I had NTTD just outside the top ten at number 12.
It's a sequence I really like and is one of my favourite of the Craig films. Like many I really enjoyed the DN dots that open the titles.

    Our number 9:

    DR. NO
    Main title sequence designed by
    MAURICE BINDER

    dr_no_c.jpg?k=5ccdb520b9

The first ever Bond title sequence received one bronze medal, as well as one 4th, one 8th, one 9th and three 10th places.

With seven more members ranking it in their top 15, only three participants put Binder’s first Bond effort lower than 15th.

Amongst these three was even one bottom 3, a single 25th place. The other two were both 19th places.

DN’s main title sequence obtained a total of 99 points.

Have to admit, the number 25 spot was me! Its not exactly thrilling, just a series of dots, and the dance silhouettes are nice, but just nice, nothing else!, things got much better after this!

I guess that what makes the DN title sequence so great is how innovative it really was. First, the gun barrel, never seen before. Then, the famous dot opening up while the Bond Theme blows in with full force. Then, a playful montage of color and stuff that never stops moving. Finally, the smooth transition into the actual film, which starts with two brutal assassinations, followed by a few scenes showing a relaxed alfa man seducing a lass who willingly has sex with him before he travels to the other side of the world. Movie magic.

    Mission: accomplished. ;-)

DN may be "low-key" and a bit "simple" in formula and structure, but if that first Bond film from 1962 isn't one of the coolest, most awesome things ever conceived in film history, I don't know what is! It doesn't even have to slowly build towards something; it kicks the doors of movie convention in, spits in the face of "established rules", and ruthlessly presents a man who's not afraid of showing off his fierce masculinity, who kills baddies without compunction, who beds the beauties of the world for fun, and who makes sure that you and I can sleep well at night.

DN is a bloody awesome film!

My #9 as well. Another nearly impeccable part of a nearly flawless film, one that had no right being as incredible as it did considering its the entry film for a franchise we all now know and love so deeply, one feeling things out and establishing some formulas in the process. Binder was legendary in his craft during these days and DN is no exception - the squares and circles, the explosions of colors, the gunbarrel, the varying size of the text. I love this one a lot.

It was my number 11. But it probably deserves to be in the top ten, so 9th is quite fair.
Considering it was the first title sequence it still holds up well.
