Reports earlier were the queue to pay respects to the Queen's coffin are almost 5 miles long. The response to the passing of EIIR has been extraordinary.
Great pics, here's a good one also from the DAD premiere:
Love It! ❤️ It's a shame because this moment will never happen again.
And it's a shame because Sean's not there, the tensions he had with the Bond franchise really grew inside of him that he'd never attended any Bond events and premieres.
Thank you for everything you have done for the UK, the Commonwealth, and the example you set to the wider world.
And let's not forget these ones:
It is certainly true that King Charles III will have a very tough act to follow after the sterling example set with his long-reigning mother, Queen Elizabeth II. At least he has had 17 years since marrying Camilla Parker-Bowles for her to settle in enough to be accepted by the majority of the people as Queen Consort, something which also had the blessing of the late Queen.
I recall years ago Prince Charles (as he then was) said he wanted to be "Defender of Faiths" and not "Defender of the Faith", but I think this has fallen by the wayside. It's always good to see traditions continued.
Perhaps predictably there has been the silly and petty media obsessions with the King's "sausage fingers" (which he's pretty much always had) and his outburst when he was signing a guest book with a leaky fountain pen that was going everywhere. I think the outburst about the leaking pen could just be put down to the emotion of losing his mother and the stress of having to attend all the separate parliament in the UK as part of becoming King. I'm sure he didn't get very much time to properly grieve the loss of his mother with all of the duties that were immediately expected of him. There was also his "dear oh dear" on welcoming Liz Truss to the Palace. Whether this was just a common expression or meant something more political, it's hard to say. Of course, the tabloid media were all over it as usual. On the more worrying side now he is King there was his tendency to speak truth to power via his "black spider memos" to ministers about a whole raft of matters. As the King as Head of State and the head of the constitutional monarchy is meant to be politically neutral one hopes that he can keep his counsel on political matters lest the vocal and campaigning republicans in his kingdom grow in number. A good example of this conflict between his former role as Prince of Wales and his current role as King was shown by how Prime Minister Liz Truss got the King to abandon plans to attend and deliver a speech at the Cop27 climate change summit.
Still witing for the stamps.
Lazenby: "Must. Not. Talk. About. My. Sexual. Escapades. Must. Not. Talk. About. My. Sexual. Escapades. God, this is difficult.
Wilson: "Stand by with tranquilizer dart in case Lazenby runs his mouth again."
Moore: "I hope George has some sexy stories to tell. Anything to liven things up."
Dalton: "From Mae West to the Queen. You're on a roll, T-Dalts."
I was just thinking of updating this thread earlier when I saw the pictures of the new notes had been released. I believe a 50 pence piece with Charles III's head on it was released a while ago but I've not seen any in change as yet.
That's apt as the late Queen was surely the Chuck Norris of British monarchs given the unprecedented length of her reign and public service.
Sadly Nobody Lives Forever, not even our beloved Queen. And as the then Prince Charles said, she wasn't getting any younger:

And who said Charles was boring?
I was being facetious of course but you certainly do have a point. Charles III will never be able to replace his mother. Elizabeth II was in her prime when she acceded to the throne and so she had a very long reign of over 70 years. Her son, on the other hand, is now an elderly man of 73 years of age. That's a big difference, plus I think a Queen always feels that bit more special as they're historically less common due to the law of primogeniture which favours the oldest male son (if indeed there is one) as heir to the throne.
At least he's had plenty of years to prepare for being King and it's not as If it was rushed on him, shocking though her death must have still been to him. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and give him a chance as King but he's clearly his own man and a different kettle of fish from his late mother.

Very nice new set of stamps. Green is my favourite colour so it's good to see it featuring in different shades. I see they're keeping the purple 1st Class stamp colour that was released in 2022 to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. I need to swap out 20 of the old 2nd Class stamps for the new ones under the scheme run by Royal Mail.

So much for "never sending flowers" I guess. 🌹
