what is the deal with this not showing as a Kindle option?
Here's a new interview with Higson about the book. It's behind a paywall but they are ways of circumventing that (I'm told 👀).
Personally I think it's nice that Higson's doesn't give The Times the time of day about the culture war nonsense it whips up. I'm completely confident SilverFin would've been decried as 'woke' if it had come out today.
Also not that I imagined he was but it's nice to get confirmation that Higson isn't a staunch royalist and that the book hasn't been officially endorsed by the Prince's Trust because of the whole regicide angle, puts that fear of mine to rest.
Despite him clearly knowing his Fleming I like that he's not going to be beholden to it, the fact is a modern Bond in his mid-30's prime is going to be a millennial. The interesting thing is to see in what ways or not that changes the character of Bond.
I for one welcome the Sherwood, Higson, Kennedy Johnson trinity. I don't think there's been a better time to be a literary Bond fan. Long may they reign 😄

Well spotted. In terms of other spy films I was thinking of the scientist who goes missing from the train at the start of The Ipcress File. He was reading a copy of the New Scientist though that wouldn't have been so out of place I suppose.
I really can’t even remember whether I’ve read ‘A Hard Man To Kill’. In terms of the Young Bond books, I know I’ve read all the Higson and Cole full length novels.
I don’t suspect for a moment that this will be the case but I wish the modern Bond in OHisMSS smoked a little, say, just three or four cigarettes a day to keep it more realistic. Bond’s follies are what makes the character more interesting otherwise he’s closer to just another generic action hero.
My ranking of the adult Bond authors:
Fleming
Pearson
Horowitz
Gardner (the first half of his series)
Amis
Gardner (the second half of this series)
After Gardner, I just can’t decide. None of these books by the other authors stand out to me in any way
I ate kimchi when I lived in South Korea so I approve. ;)
Well, as for reading ‘New Scientist’, maybe the Times are upset about not being mentioned in the book. Fleming’s Bond read The Times.

Okay then sour can fit the kimchi description anyway. (If it's bitter it needs to ferment more. Still like The Times, maybe.)

Thank you. That was a interesting story and viewpoints on NTTD. Based on his comments, the MI6 regulars will be in it. And Blofeld won’t. It also sounds like a very one-off story, based on Higson’s comments.
Slightly frustratingly ‘woke’-obsessed article, but it seems there is at least some relevance to the actual 007 story so I guess it’s an okay angle. I am liking the sound of the book though, should be fun.
Certainly sounds like he’s taken some cues from the Heinrich attempted coup in Germany, and is also working out some frustrations with some of the other more annoying people about nowadays :) Just like Fleming worked out some of his against modernist architects!

He says there "My Bond has a modern young man’s sensibilities, but is still recognisedly 007"- sounds good to me.
Has anyone started it yet? It's on sale in some shops I believe.
I'm in America, we don't have a physical copy release date, unfortunately. Maybe Higson will talk about another Bond book.
