What do I need an invisible car for?
Not exactly safe or practical.
I'm surprised nobody mentioned how dangerous and impractical an invisible car would be.
I'd go for the submersible car for the same reason.
Yeah, right. And Grizzly Adams had a beard.
And the submersible car for water pollution and the poisoning of fishes, imagine releasing carbon gases into the sea?! Man, if submersible cars would be in real life circulation, I would never ever swim into the sea (knowing how contaminated and polluted it is), and I know it would trigger Greta Thunberg ;)
I wonder when will Bond have a flying car (similar to Little Nellie but in form of a car), then that would be my choice!
And the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results.
--Edmund Burke.
I vaguely remember that Chris Corbold pitched that idea for the opening of NTTD.
Although if I could have any car from the Bond franchise, it would be the flying Matador from TMWTGG.
On to another decision!
Would you rather see see the new Bond have a Scottish housekeeper named May OR an assistant named Loelia Ponsoby?
May would just seem weird in 2023. Who has a live-in housekeeper anymore? Who wants to see Bond's flat? Get on with the mission, James.
Ponsonby would seem weird because everyone would be waiting for Moneypenny to show up, surmising that Ponsonby would either die or betray Bond/MI6.
Some of the Fleming characters were rightly left behind by Eon.
Ponsoby could also be great but May would be a more different from what we got so far and would therefore be more interesting.
@echo
I thought about that, too. Would it be appropriate to have a character like May in 2023? Don't know...with a good script, a lot is possible.
@echo … you’re echoing my sentiments…. Or I’m echoing yours.
Either way, 💯 %
I wouldn't be as categorical, but I pretty much agree. I think if either would be used, they would need to be heavily modified. May is not merely outdated, she's anachronistic. Maybe make her a cleaning lady? But that's a big maybe. Loelia Ponsonby is too similar to Moneypenny to bring anything new. I can't see her working, not as a regular character anyway.
Loelia wouldn't be a secretary but probably an assistant to the 00's or something. Actually I'm ok with that. She'd have more of a practical function within the story, and I've always felt her and Bond's relationship in the novels was very humanising. She's also a very different character to the traditional Moneypenny. She doesn't flirt with Bond for instance (it's a line Bond seems to know not to cross, although he teases her from time to time, which makes it an usual female relationship for him), and she seems to genuinely care about his wellbeing as well as that of the other 00's, which is a great idea to expand upon (one gets the sense that Maxwell's Moneypenny maintains a bit of a distance from Bond beyond flirting). If anything I'd argue the cinematic Moneypenny from Moore's tenure onwards became more and more like Loelia (in Craig's era especially) with that more platonic relationship.
They'd probably have to forgo Moneypenny if Loelia were included but I'm actually ok with this too. I think the old trope of Bond briefly flirting with Moneypenny before going into M's office is hit or miss in the films anyway, and only really works nowadays when this formula is flipped on its head in some way. If Loeila were included at the beginning of a new actor's tenure you could set up a very interesting dynamic between these characters. I've personally always hoped for a version of Loleia onscreen.
Okay on to another one!
Would you rather the next Bond be a Hollywood star (Cavill, Elba for example) OR a relative unknown (like Connery and Craig some acting but not widely known.)?
Aidan who?
It's very difficult nowadays to remain an unknown actor, especially once you're being considered for Bond. But I hope we'll get relatively unknown or little known veteran. Somebody who did a lot of stage work, perhaps? With smaller roles in bigger projects (tv and cinema) where they somehow shine.
I think this would be a great opportunity for both of them. A good way to differentiate from Craig would be getting different characters who haven’t adapted from the books. Particularly May. She could have worked as Kincade, which she could partially still be. Same with Charmian Bond, she could be used.
I’d like someone in between. Not a superstar, but someone with acting experience.
