And non-officially in The Return of The Man From UNCLE:
Between the two, I'd go with the white one, providing of course I could pull it off (which I'm not sure if I can to be perfectly honest).
Black for winter.
Midnight Blue = the ultimate tux, suitable any time.
Didn't Roger wear both black and white in OP?
And AVTAK too.
Connery also wears both in GF and DAF.
Lets move on and talk about Connery, Sean Connery. The Bond for a generation and then some. He starred in 6 official films and then gave a one finger salute to EON with an un-official entry.
Watching a behind the scenes doc on CR 67 it was pointed out that the producer wanted Connery and wanted to do a straight Bond film adventure. Connery asked for $1,000,000 for the role and the producer politely turned him down. Ironically said producer ended up paying Peter Sellers the same fee and suffered many headaches.
This would you rather is a square off of un-official Bonds with a twist.
Would you rather a CR starring Sean in the 60's or NSNA starring Sean in the 80's?
We got one and we can only speculate on what the other might have been. Which would you rather we had received? Have some fun, tell us why you made your choice.
Casino Royale with Connery was a good idea but It needed more action.
I don't get these questions at all. We've just had "would you rather have twenty Bond films, or five", now we've got "would you rather have a film you know, or one that's imaginary".
I'm missing something here.
I'm trying different questions with some fantasy, some based on reality and some just fun. This thread was never meant to be an over thinking one. I am sorry if some of them don't hit the right mark. I do welcome people to submit any ideas for future would you rather questions.
Personally I like the question. It's an interesting point, a 'what if' that could've saved what would end up to be an abysmal film, against what we got, a rip-off from Thunderball with an interesting take on Largo and a terrible Domino. Balanced off with a Q that is more spectator than part of the film and a truly insane Fatima Blush.
The thing is, when would the film be set? If it is Connery from Thunderball in a straight foreward adaptation of CR, I'd probably prefer it even over Craig's. But if it was filmed after YOLT, I'm not so sure. Probably still prefer the imaginary one.
No, I'm sorry for being such a curmudgeon. I'm over-thinking it as usual. When I read back what I wrote it came across more arsey than I meant it.
There's no messing with the timestream.
Would Connery be motivated to deliver a top notch performance? Most definitely. One thing is for sure having a Burt Bachrach soundtrack would have easily trumped the NSNA soundtrack we got in the 80's.
The mind also wonders if Ursula would have played Vesper Lynd. Connery and her shared some wonderful chemistry in DN. To see them reunited here in the late 60's would have been great.
As much as I enjoy NSNA, a 60's Connery Bond movie would be wonderful to see. Course we'd have ended up with a very different CR and one wonders if that would have stopped EON gaining the rights in the 2000's.
BTW @thedove, while we'll never know for sure, I have doubts that a post YOLT Connery would have actually given a top notch performance. Again, opinions differ on this, but I think that he was eager to move on from Bond (at-least for the time being) IMO.
NSNA isn't great, but I think it's better that we have it. Especially considering it means we get Craig's CR.
That would've been a good trailer for it. Like the clip of Sophia from Arabesque and the use of "Bond with Bongos" in the background.
Here's another attempt:
@ToTheRight That makes for a fun double feature. DAF and MR bookend the wildest decade(1970s) of Bond very well. Both are outer-spaced themed and feature lasers, both have Bond arrive in America at LAX, both feature American leading ladies who are initially cool towards 007, John Barry scores and Shirley Bassey theme songs.
Lets stay in the realm of fantasy with this next one. In two different times of the Bond film series an American was close to being cast as James Bond. Lets do a would you rather featuring these two chaps.
In 1970 Cubby and Harry were casting for another actor to play Bond. They decided on American John Gavin to fill the shoes vacated by Lazenby. John was a serviceable actor but this would have been a whole other level for him as the star. David Picker stepped in and got Connery back for DAF. What would a DAF starring John Gavin looked like?
In 1982 Moore seemed to indicate he was done. All his films after MR were one off deals. At the conclusion of FYEO it seemed that would be Roger's final film. Cubby went so far to screen test James Brolin for the part and you can find various screen tests online. Once word got out that Connery was starring in NSNA, Cubby knew he needed Moore to counter. Brolin was out and Moore was in!
Lets hash this one out.
Would you rather a DAF starring Gavin OR an OP starring Brolin?
Interesting that both are American and have a similar appearance. I haven't seen any screen tests with Gavin in the role.
This might be a "I'd prefer neither", but for some giggles go ahead choose which one you would have rather come to a big screen!
From what I've seen of Gavin he was a forgettable actor. So Brolin it is.
