Would you rather the female lead be Bond's equal OR a civilian who is not aware of the spy game?

Very true, or maybe an Aston Vanquish, as in DAD. It’s a big, brutal, heavy V12, I think that’s a similar kind of car.

Of all the options mentioned, I'd definately go for that option tbh. Allthough, as you rightfully said, Bond wasn't going for elegant in the books, he's more brutish, and the Bentley, in that hideous colour, fits the description perfectly.

Other options from the 2024/25 line-up are here:

    Perhaps the Maserati?

I defniately don't want to see him in an Audi.

If we are going book Bond then he didn't have new cars, that's the only thing.

The Vanquish would indeed be met with a very welcome return by me. Bond should have a big/bulky but still elegant looking car.

Happy for them to keep Aston Martins, but maybe retire the DB5 for a little bit, given its excessive use in the Craig era.

The new Vantage is very nice and wouldnt mind seeing that featured.

The DB5, for me, is almost like a metaphor for the Craig era in general. I love the DB5, but if it appears in every single movie it loses that 'special feeling'. In the same way, I love me a good personal storyline once in a while (OHMSS, LTK, CR) but if it happens in every single movie it leaves me yearning for an oldschool straightforward mission.

Now, carwise, it's no secret I'm crazy about Alfa's and Maserati's, but I guess they aren't considered British enough for Bond, which I can understand (even though the BMW's rather fit the Brosnan films I think, and I'm not even a BMW fan).

I'd welcome a return to Lotus, though I wouldn't mind AM to stay on either. Given how Jag has turned itself around for worse, and how Bentleys lately look like cars for footballers and rappers I'd say better stay clear from those.

Maybe just leave the DB5 in the garage for a while though and go for a newer model, like they did for TLD and DAD. Or use the AM's from those films, or OHMSS, if you want to keep him driving classic cars. Wouldn't mind the Esprit either, but I can't imagine they'd drop AM for the new Bond.

I must admit I think it works for him to be driving a classic car as his personal ride, I quite like it. It probably does need to be actually classic rather than the 20 year-old or so car Fleming had him in as I'm not sure the entire audience would grasp that it's an old car if it's from 2000. The OHMSS DBS would be cool, I guess they probably should have given that to Bond for NTTD given the OHMSS connections, but perhaps a bit too on the nose and, well, the V8 suits him more I think.

I would be in favor of pausing Q-fitted cars in general, but fear that Amazon will love continuing the tradition. The instances where Bond had to go with what was available (the 2CV, the Alfa Romeo GTS etc) were exciting as well. And Mission Impossible showed how much fun could be had with classic cars (Fiat 500, BMW 528i).

Loved all the discussion that the scenario generated. It would be tough for me to say pause when I love the DB-V. I do find it was slightly over-used in Craig's era.

I am going with pause, but it is with extreme reluctance.

    On to our next one...

Would you rather a introduction of the new guy like Connery and Laz OR like Moore and Craig?

We have had 5 different actors assuming the role of Bond. In most cases the actor is shielded, we see hands, back of head and maybe a mouth. The excitement builds as we await the big reveal and see the new Bond!

Connery's and Lazenby's introductions were particularly drawn out and played up. In Connery's case we heard his voice but didn't see him for a bit. Lazenby we hear a "hmmm" but no words.

For Moore's introduction the film-makers decided to go opposite and have him appear with no fanfare and no hiding shots.

Dalton and Brosnan get an introduction more in line with Connery and Laz. We see their bodies but don't see them proper for a minute or two after. Dalton has a wind machine and music flourish. Brosnan is hanging upside down in a toilet stall.

For Craig we swung back to a Moore like introduction. Sure he's in the shadows but the scene doesn't build to his reveal.

So for the next fella would you rather an old-school reveal of the actor in the role? Or a Craig or Moore reveal with no added flourishes?
  • Craig's was perfect. I can understand why they did what they did for Moore but it's still underwhelming.

Slow reveal please. First, a hand reaching for the Frank Cooper, and then another handling the Minton.

I don't know, a slow reveal is a bit of a cliché now. I don't know if it can be done in a way that doesn't seem cheesy.

I think only Moore's introduction is truly different. All the others have a degree of mystery and suspense.

I have a feeling that the new producers might go back to the DN or OHMSS well and have a longer reveal. Shall be interesting to see.

The Amazon special "The Sound of 007" was well done and I think had enough new stories and aspects that purists and casual fans likely enjoyed the special. It got me thinking of future specials of Bond that Amazon could do, maybe they would serve as a way to kick us into Bond 26.

Pretending your part of the Amazon team and the creatives submit two different Amazon Prime Special type shows. Which one would you green-light?

Would you rather greenlight a special about the written world of double-o-7 OR a special featuring the fantastic sets and locations of the Bond films?

In the first one, you could do a deeper dive into Fleming and how he created the character and the novels that followed. You could feature the continuation authors and even interview them for the special. You could finally talk about the cultural phenom of James Bond novels, at least during the Bond-a-mania heights of the sixties.

The second special you would dive into the world of Ken Adams and the fantastical sets of the earlier films. You could share stories of true life locations that have become part of Bond. You might feature how locations are scouted or what leads to a location being chosen. How it is harder to find unique locations due to how readily information is available.

The written world as a special.

The fantastic sets and locations as an ongoing series, so much material to address.

The sets and designs please. I love all that stuff and it makes for a much more visually interesting TV show.

It's a great point though, I think the first thing we're likely to see under the new Amazon regime is a Bond documentary in the vein of Sound of 007.

I'd prefer the written word, and perhaps analyse Bond as a character that way a bit more. Usually it's about Fleming, but I think there's a lote to highlight in who Bond is and what he stands for, going past the stereotypes.

Why that was an interesting one. I must say I was surprised by how much love both sides got. I would fall on the side of a special about sets. I think the work of Ken Adams is worthy of a special on it's own.

Would you rather the female lead be Bond's equal OR a civilian?

I was listening to a podcast that did a deep dive on TLD. They mentioned Kara being a compelling character and mentioned that they like the dynamic of Bond matched up with a civilian. They thought it sparked more story ideas and gave a different dynamic to the relationship between Bond and the female lead.

I wondered what would folks on here prefer?

Some of Bond's equal female leads shows
    • Aki
    • Mary Goodnight
    • Anya Amasova
    • Holly Goodhead
    • Pam
    • Wai Lin
    • Jinx
    • Nomi

Some of the Bond's female lead civilians shows:
    • Honey Ryder
    • Domino
    • Tracy
    • Solitaire
    • Melina
    • Stacey Sutton
    • Kara
    • Natalya
    • Christmas Jones
    • Madeleine

Which dynamic do you enjoy most? Would you rather the female lead not be an agent or Bond's equal OR would you rather the female lead be a civilian?
A civilian. It generally creates a better dynamic, it creates a character that can complete him instead of competing with him, it creates more complexity and drama, allows Bond to show a more compassionate side, etc.

I'm happy with her being Bond's "equal" in general, but that does not mean she would necessarily be another agent. But I'd like someone extremely smart, self assured, and also good at martial arts.

You missed the greatest ‘equal’, and one of the greatest Bond girl, Pussy Galore.
  • I think the ideal female lead is probably someone like Domino (from the novel) or Honey. Yes ultimately a civilian, but competent and able in the face of danger (with the help of Bond) and a ton of bravery.

Easily the winged dove, Kara is my favourite Bond girl.
