Yes, very happy for that team. Excellent work and dynamics.
Let that team do a Bond movie! It would come in WAAAAAAAY under budget, and be lean & mean.
And set it in Japan, for all means. I’d be happy 😊
... then 48 hours later GODZILLA:MINUS ONE took home the VFX Oscar. ^:)^
(L to R): Masaki Takahashi, Takashi Yamazaki, Kiyoko Shibuya and Tatsuji Nojima at the Oscars
This after ceremony picture made me grin ear to ear! (of course, it would).
While the main article is behind a paywall, I found this:

@Univex : As for Bond coming back to Japan, I noted over in the Award Winning Comments thread, that while Bond has certainly traveled around the globe in recent films, we really haven't seen him partake in any "foreign" cultures IIRC.
That is certainly true. I suppose people are afraid it could be seen as imperialistic, even though is just healthy cultural travelogue on film. I don't know, could be. But it is a crying shame, as it was one of the more exotic side of things in these movies.
This observation, however, comes from one very special person.
Christopher Nolan praises Takashi Yamazaki’s ‘GODZILLA MINUS ONE’: “I thought it was a tremendous film. I thought it was so exciting. It’s beautifully made and the mechanics of it were so involving. There was wonderful depth to the characters and a wonderful sense of history that I really appreciated.”
For the record, OPPENHEIMER is due to be released in Japan on March 29th. As I understand it, however, a small distributor will be handling the screenings.
In Japan. No word yet on an American, or European release, but some say that it could happen in september. Fingers crossed :

Fingers crossed is right; I am a physical media guy.
Seeing G x K NE tonight… hoping for some Showa era insanity!
Although Toho doesn't include subtitles on their disks sold in Japan, I understand there are work arounds, as there are for the region coding (if you live in the US). And since a stripped down 1-disk DVD version is available I may get it.
@MooseWithFleas : I think that is exactly what you will get; late period Showa era. I humming the "Jet Jaguar" song as I type this.
*FYI, the MST3K version of Godzilla vs. Megalon is very rare (volume 10, 2006). IIRC, Toho took legal action against Rhino who were then forced to pull all of the DVDs out of the stores. Luckily I was able to buy a copy before they were pulled.
Godzilla Vs. King Ghidorah / Ebirah, Horror of the Deep
The Return of Godzilla / Godzilla vs. Space Godzilla
Godzilla vs. Biollante / Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II
Godzilla vs. Destroyah / Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla
Godzilla & Mothra : The Battle For Earth / Godzilla vs. Megalon
Even if copies nowadays are a bit on the expensive side, I'll try to get them.
A fan film that is amazing
BTW: Today, May 7th, marks the 113th anniversary of the birth of Japanese director Ishiro Honda. I posted some remembrances over in the Birthday Thread.
Also, note all of the "GODZILLA: MINUS ONE" reaction videos posted on YouTube in the past week. Now that the film has been released on 4K/Blu-Ray/DVD and streaming in Japan it is being pirated like crazy.
I purchased my DVD from CDJapan a couple of weeks ago - and was pleased to see that it came with two additional DVDs. One is full of BTS content, while the other consists of various promotional cast and crew appearances. And while the lack of English subtitles is an issue, I've also found that various sites have posted versions of the ".srt" files for people to download. It's like the early 2000s all over again!
My guess, is that with Godzilla x Kong, coming to streaming and physical media in mid-June (US), Minus One is being lined up for a late summer/early fall release outside of Japan. Just as I predicted.
But wouldn't it be fun if it existed ?

Speaking of the Big G, I find it curious that every Gamera movie is available as French DVDs (I know, I have them), while there are only (to my knowledge, only 13 Japanese Godzilla movies available that way. Gamera is certainly less well known than Godzilla in France.
I'm shocked.

update-1: GODZILLA: MINUS ONE is also available for digital download on itunes and Amazon Prime as of June 1st. Note, that GODZILLA: MINUS ONE/MINUS COLOR is also available.
update-2: At least on Netflix, an English dub is also available.
" ..... waste not, want not." :))
The word is that Yamazakis's next project will NOT be a sequel to GODZILLA: MINUS ONE. Instead, it will be an adaption of a Japanese manga. That doesn't mean a sequel won't happen at all, only that it probably will not happen for a while.

This is a positive…
[Remade in 1999 as Yonggary aka Reptilian, with dodgy CGI of the day. Note the US Godzilla film came out 1998.]
The later North Korean film Pulgsari (POOL-gah-sah-ree, 1985). Two horns, or course. And an incredible production backstory involving international intrigue, kidnapping. And in comparison, shockingly insensitive violence and other nonsense.
