Return to Scaramanga's Fun House may be my all time favourite haunting music. The way it builds up to the 5 minutes mark and then concludes with the sinister stalking vibe. It's a mini masterpiece.

Finally got around to listening to this despite buying it before Christmas and, well, it's no Moonraker is it! Barry only had a couple of weeks to write it so no slight on him, but it's a bit of a boring listen going over the same ground quite often; I think it's one of those where the original soundtrack album is probably all you need. Although the Bottoms Up tracks are actually a bit of a highlight and more interesting than a lot of the score! I had no idea Bottoms Up 2 would be a sort of noodly psychedelic riff on the theme tune.

I agree that it gets very repetitive if you listen to the whole thing start to finish. I like the melody of "Golden Gun" just fine, but it gets a bit boring when you hear it in every other track. And in addition to the time constraints, maybe the adherence to that stereotypical "East Asian" mode cramped Barry's style?

On the positive side, it's still more memorable as a whole than anything Barry's successors after he left the series came up with. I can hum Barry's music all day and have a hard time recalling much if anything Arnold and especially Newman came up with.

I think the essential score cues not present in the original album are

    Gun Barrel / The Island
    Macau
    Following Andrea
    Scaramanga Strikes
    Chula
    The Death of Hai Fat
    Moments
and possibly Retrieving the Solex Agitator

Yeah, the little Solex motif isn’t represented on the album at all I think?

I haven't heard it. I had hoped for it, though. Would be a cool sound to hear every time someones texts me. ;-)

Oh, it's on there on the new one, I meant on the original album. It really would make a good text noise though! :D

I need to go through the album again then.

I'm currently hearing "Bond. James Bond" by Roger Moore in OP when someone texts me.

I've got the Saint motif for a reminder and the phone ring from In Like Flint (also Basil's phone call noise from Austin Powers) as my ringtone :)

Well man with the golden gun might not be everyones cup of tea here but despite being considered the lesser work i personally prefer the score as a listening experience and indeed the film over moonraker.

I like TMWTGG's score. In fact, for a rather playful Bond film, the score is deliciously sinister and even melancholic at times. But since Barry didn't score TSWLM, he was extra-energized and churned out possibly the best Bond score in MR.

It's a good score, especially considering what little time Barry had to do his thing. I agree, @SecretAgentMan⁰⁰⁷, that it has its sinister moments, and I love those very much. It show how good Barry was.
