    Doing Bond as a period piece would be expensive (unless it was larded with CGI, but then it would look fake) and would result in lower box office. Amazon has no commercial reason to go for that.

    Similarly, the idea that big name directors like Nolan or Villeneuve can now get on the Bondwagon is doubtful. Would Amazon really give them far more creative control than the Broccolis would have? Not with an IP on Bond's scale.

    It'll be interesting seeing what kind of director/talent they can get. A massive part of Bond being in EON's hands was that they were so respected and could get some big name talent, especially by Craig's tenure. I personally can't see Nolan or even Villeneuve jumping into bed with these guys either, but we'll see.

    Jonathan Nolan works with Amazon at the moment on the Fallout series. If he were to get involved, it'd be an easy work around for Chris eventually, me thinks.

    Christopher Nolan had a long term contract with Warner Bros. He fell out with WB when they put their new films online during covid. He's currently working with Universal. If he has a long term deal with Universal then he won't be making an Amazon Bond film. I couldn't find any information online if he's got a multi film deal contract with Universal. I'm guessing Universal would want to keep him for as long as possible!

    Yeah, but Nolan wants a good deal of creative control and is busy with his own project. He also values a theatrical release (although I don't think Amazon will let Bond get a limited release then go to streaming just yet).

    Speaking of Star Wars, I feel if Amazon came out and said they're letting three established directors control their own but interconnected Bond trilogy (like the Star Wars trilogy) I'd be worried. That trilogy was an absolute disaster of storytelling. I actually didn't mind Johnson's one as much though.

    Does anyone have a rundown of how this even started? Did Amazon just gobble up EON's stock or something or was the sale inevitable since they bought MGM?

    I think it's excellent news that Barbara Broccoli is no longer involved in the creative decisions. Her approach of making Bond films by committee has led to some extremely poor choices. Imagine how good Bond 25 could have been if she had just let Boyle and Hodge fulfil their vision of the film? It will also hopefully mean that Purvis and Wade are no longer involved in the writing process. It was extremely frustrating when she kept hiring them. They should have been binned off after the Die Another Day debacle. Hopefully Amazon will hire Christopher Nolan and give him and his team everything they need to create a first-rate Bond film. No more making Bond films by committee!

    At least there is that possibility. Two days ago we were talking about a possible return of Martin Campbell.

    At least there is that possibility. Two days ago we were talking about a possible return of Martin Campbell.

    Doesn't really have anything to do with what kind of talent EON can get, just that there's more a possibility of a film being made in the short term (maybe, we'll see when).

    100% this...it's Amazon for cripes sake. Just a few months ago when the Babs Broccoli story leaked about her deriding Amazon, this lovely quote got out, made by one of Amazon's people during talks: “I have to be honest. I don't think James Bond is a hero.”

    This is going to be a total disaster and I think some are just in denial of what this really means for Bond. As others have said, there's no way Amazon is going to give even a big name director ANY creative control on this, they are going to fine tune every casting, writing, and narrative decision to tailor it for what they consider to be "modern audiences" and to maximize profit

    Yep. It's gotta sell in Asia & Russia. And they won't wanna piss off the American MAGA folks. So, generic action action hero time... remember how many here called TND a generic Bond? I wouldn't be surprised if that particular movie got removed from streaming because it's too close to Mr. Orange's activities....

    There was a dropoff between LTK and GE when various Eon collaborators left. GE was a copy of Bond's greatest hits.

    CR and SF (at the very least) corrected that problem, hugely. Bond felt relevant and individualistic.

    Now we are going to get a copy of a copy. Sigh.
