Okay chaps between us we must have collected a rather impressive collection of useless Bond related trivia, so I thought we should start compiling it all together for easy access so that next time were out with friends we can regale them with our shared knowledge and be endlessly fascinating and informative.

If we could post one interesting Bond related fact or piece of trivia each time:

Fact Number One: The production costs of Moonraker was equal to the total costs spent on the first six Bond films put together.

Brozza married one of Roger Moore's on-screen Bond girls from For Your Eyes Only, and he met Albert Broccoli for negotiations for the Bond role while visiting the set of that very movie. Sadly she died of cancer in 1991.

Sam Neill (of Dead Calm and Jurassic Park fame) auditioned for role of James Bond back in 1986, along with Pierce Brosnan

Another tidbit that I'm sure we are all aware of...John Gavin (Psycho) was cast and paid to pay the role of James Bond in DAF.

The TOP 4 longest gaps between Bond movies in the film series' history are all since 1989:

    1. License to Kill (1989) — GoldenEye (1995)
    2. Quantum of Solace (2008) — Bond 23 (2012)
    3. Die Another Day (2002) — Casino Royale (2006)
    4. The World Is Not Enough (1999) — Die Another Day (2002)

That's how little Bond films we've been getting lately. Man how I wish they were still being churned out like back then.

For as long as James Bond has existed he has served under the same Monarch. Queen Elizabeth II took the throne almost a year before Fleming wrote CR. (also pretty basic but scarily puts things into perspective of how old both HM and Bond are)

Maybe when Charles or William take over, they can make a new film On HIS Majesty's Secret Service!

Brigitte Bardot and then Catherine Deneuve were offered the role of Tracy in OHMSS before Diana Rigg was cast.
  • Fleming got the name James Bond from a book on birds. He chose it because of its dullness.

    Here's a good 'un...

On moving into his new salubrious London flat back in the day, disgraced former Tory Cabinet member, rubbish novelist and, yes, jailbird Jeffrey Archer discovered to his delight that the phone number ended in '007' - the reason being that John Barry had lived there before him and had requested said number from phone operator British Telecom...

In Goldfinger despite largely being set in America, Sean Connery did not actually film any scenes in the country.

  • When the GF crew was in Kentucky someone told Peter Hunt that the reason none of them could get inside Fort Knox to check it out was because there wasn't actually any gold inside it. Or something like that.

OHMSS was originally intended to follow GF, then TB but difficulty with the winter locations resulted in it being postponed until after YOLT.
  • TB was originally going to be first, but the legal issues started around then and they decided to go with Dr. No instead.

I also believe that Casino Royale was Broccoli and Saltzman's original plan to be the first film - but Fleming wouldn't sell over the rights to the story..

It' not that he wouldn't it is that he couldn't. He had already sold off the rights to CR years earlier, non? Hence CR-1954

maybe there will be someone that will tell me is this true or not.
but i read in newspaper that Ian Fleming got the idea to write about agent 007 after he met real agent from balkan on a boat.he was serbian or croatian cant remember.so Fleming met that agent and they start to talk and become friends so after the agent told all his stories Fleming decided to write about some agent.so he made James Bond 007.now i dont know if some of the Bond adventures really happened to that guy but casino royale is in montenegro and that is in balkan.who knows that might really happen to that agent :)

I think Cubby wasn't very happy with the theme song for LALD, he openly called it ****. Until, one day, a music producer came to the set and offered to pay EON a huge load of money (If I remember correctly, it was atleast equal to the film's budget) to buy the rights to the song. Cubby declined the offer, and the next day, when he arrived on set, he told everyone "We have a great theme song for the movie !" I also remember reading that Cubby hated GF's theme song.

Sean Connery never utters the words "Bond. James Bond." in 3 Bond films: FRWL, TB and YOLT. From OHMSS-CR'06, the actor playing Bond says those 3 words at least once in each individual 007 film.
