I loved The Mary Tyler Moore show and that finale was one for the ages (1977)
M*A*S*H was good to do one. Though I found the episode nap worthy....I had stopped watching the show when Wayne Rodgers left but I felt I owed it to myself to watch the finale.

But the way "LOST" ended...man those 2.5 hours I spent watching that finale are gone and I will never get them back. Talk about a show going from the penthouse to the Outhouse...
  • I was a HUGE Jonny Quest fan back in the day. Some of the best animation being done for TV at that time! I thought it was a shame that the network "brains" of the time found it necessary to schedule Lost in Space directly against Star Trek -- obviously there was room for only ONE science fiction series on TV at that time!

Best finale ever was Newhart. The whole show was a dream & he woke up next to Suzanne Pleshette back on The Bob Newhart Show. Awesome.

    Oh good discussion. :)
My favorite tv shows; just looking at 60s and 70s for now.
I know I'll miss some, but here are my main ones ...

I LOVE Jonny Quest and watched it faithfully. Need to get some dvds on that ...
I think I Dream of Jeannie (another fave) had a proper ending, with her marrying Tony. But overall, giving series a real "send off" proper ending did not happen until the 70's, true. OK, I'll list them ...

    In the 60s -
    I Dream of Jeannie
    Jonny Quest

    The Flintstones
    Gilligan's Island
Lost in Space first 2 years, I think
Star Trek pretty faithful whole time
Petticoat Junction when I was very young
The Odd Couple - loved that, watched often
    Laugh In - yep ;)
Bewitched - love Eliz. Montgomery, so lovely (premise got old; I didn't care)
Honey West - loved Anne F.; vaguely remember it (I was pretty young)
The Man From U.N.C.L.E. - all of it
The Girl From U.N.C.L.E. - all of it (loved Stephanie & Noel)
Hogan's Heroes - loved this show
It Takes a Thief - huge fan! (loved Robt Wagner in this)

    70s shows -
M*A*S*H the entire series; loved it all, even with changes; superb
Mary Tyler Moore - loved it all
    Newhart - nearly 100% faithful
All in the Family - pretty much all
The Jeffersons - almost all the time
Maude - most of the time
Welcome Back, Kotter - about half the time
WKRP in Cincinatti - first couple of years pretty faithful
Kung Fu - sporadically, but I did really like it

Best finale for me would probably be a tie: Newhart and M*A*S*H :)

I haven't seen a lot of 1960's and 1970's shows but I really much enjoy the followings: The Persuaders!, Fawlty Towers and Monty Python's Flying Circus.

I also loved The Wild Wild West (have the complete series on dvd), and of course Mission: Impossible (I have the season with Lesley-Ann Warren on DVD- that was my favourite). I also liked The Name Of The Game and Ron Ely's Tarzan.

In the early 70s it was Kung Fu for me. Loved that show, but I think after Season 2 it went down a bit, less fighting more philosophising.

Before I get too far off point here. I did not watch much in the seventies but I had my personal favorites ...
Favorite 60's shows : Mannix, Jonny Quest, Time Tunnel, Bewitched[/b, Beverly Hillbillies, Green Acres]

Favorite 70's shows That Saturday Night lineup in the early 70's was tops with All in the Family, Bob Newhart, M*A*S*H and of course Mary Tyler Moore (that episode about the Christmas dinner while snowed in and everyone upset at each other while Suzanne and Georgette had no idea what was going on, as well as the one about Chuckles' the Clown funeral)
Other 70's shows: Taxi Love Boat, Fantasy Island Good Times (loved Bernadette Stannis Sanford and Son The Jeffersons

What was that show that starred Marshall Thompson? He had played a doctor working in Africa with his grown up daughter and a cross eyed lion in Daktari but I'm thinking of the one where he was like 6 inches tall. What was the name of that show?

BTW I also loved the Wild Wild West

NBC Mystery Theater. Most liked Colombo but I preferred McCloud and Mc Millan and Wife Colombo gets all the play in syndication but I always liked the other two shows. Where can one find them?

This new year will mark the 50th Anniversay of Star Trek TOS which aired on NBC Thursday nights. September 1966(Opposite Bewitched and the CBS Thursday Night Movie)

I only saw two episodes in the three years it ran. ("Patterns of Force", and "The city on the Edge of Forever")
The show was so "over my head" and I did not get hooked until I was in college and watching it in syndication/reruns. Suddenly it all made so much sense to me....

I hate to be so picky and predictable about TOS and A NEW HOPE, but those weren't the titles that I saw at the movies or on television. I hate this idea that we can go back and retroactively rename classics. Let all of the remakes and sequels and spin-offs take the new names. I would hope that at least on this thread we can stick to the reality of what was on the screen, big or small.
    We reach.

@Birdleson: Don't beat me up for adding "TOS" but if it drives you into a frenzy then I stand corrected. I drop the "TOS"
now can we all get along?

Jonny Quest was always a big favorite. And I'm going to add T.H.E. Cat to the list.
