CASABLANCA had its’ world premiere 80 years ago today, November 26, 1942. After the New York City opening, the film would go into general release in January 1943.

Like many classic movie fans, I can recite every line by heart (and frequently do!). As film
critic Roger Ebert once said: there may be better movies, but none are as beloved as CASABLANCA.

    I agree.

Just try to sit through the La Marseillaise scene without becoming emotional. It can’t be done, especially if you know the real history behind many of the on screen actors.

The first time I saw Casablanca, many years ago, I didn t care for it. Seeing it again in the near past, it rose considerably in my esteem. I think I was disappointed on my first watch because so many have hailed it as the greatest movie ever made, which it is not. Still a damn fine film.

Yesterday I should have posted this.

Still a classic I can watch from time to time. Happy 30 years to all involved with Aladdin (1992)!

Happy Birthday to Rowan Atkinson who turns 68 today, he's known for playing Mr. Bean, but for us Bond fans, he's known for playing Nigel Faucet in Never Say Never Again!

Somewhere on the other side, I know that my late mother is belting out a rendition of “Goldfinger” in her honor. :))

On what would have been his 80th birthday (February 24/25 ?, 1943) …… Mr. George Harrison.
    FIVirvgX0AEc_J7.jpg

I could literally pick any song at random from his discography (or that of any one of his fellow Fabs) and land on something that touches me deeply, but I’ll settle on this selection for today.

"Writings on the Wall" (1981) from the LP Somewhere in England

    ♫….
The writing's on the wall brother
Your life is in your hands
It's up to you to see the writing's on the wall.

It looks you in the eye mister
It's time we stand up tall
Go see and understand the writing's on the wall.

Strange we hold on to things that have no grace
    Or power
While death holds on to us much more with every
    Passing hour
And all the time you thought it would last
Your life, your friends would always be
'Til they're drunk away or shot away or die away
    From you.

There's nothing that you need sister
The Lord is in you all
Life is designed to see the writing's on the wall.

The music's in the air mothers
You may have heard it call
To you that you may see the writing's on the wall.

    Be careful going home sister
    Be watchful down that road
You've got a lot of love sister
    More to grow.

The writing's on the wall brothers
Your life is in your hands
It's up to you to see the writing's on the wall
I hope that you may see the writing's on the wall

    ….♫

Happy 90th Birthday to Sir Michael Caine! A great actor. The Harry Palmer films are still my favourites from him and my favourite spy films outside of Bond.

Happy birthday to a true legend! It’s a shame that we never got him in a Bond movie!

I love the fact that his birthday has brought that story back to the surface again. Not only that story, but also the story of confrontation between him and Van Damme at Stallone's house. :))

Whatever honours system you have in Belgium, I think you should be awarded something.

On the topic of Segal, I thought I had seen all the Segal dvds I had, turns out I still have 2 more to watch.
