Sad to hear of the passing of Dennis Waterman. He was a fixture of my TV youth. Firstly in The Sweeney as George Carter with his terrific double act with John Thaw. And then another monster hit with Minder. Still going strong twenty years later on New Tricks. Sad news and only 74

    Oh crap! Always liked him.

Aw Man, that's terrible news about Dennis Waterman!
One of my all time favourite series in 'Minder', and of course the excellent 'The Sweeney'!

Sad news I always saw him as the young side kick to Arthur Daily and Reagan. Before then Dennis appeared in many Hammer films. R. I. P.

I was going to bring up Naked Gun. He was good in that one, as was the actor who plays his cellmate.

I should rewatch the two Tremors films Fred Ward was in.

This is really sad news to end the week on.

I remember seeing REMO WILLIAMS during its’ premiere weekend back in late 1985 – when it was being positioned by some as the start of a James Bond like franchise. It didn’t happen, but that takes nothing away from Fred Ward’s efforts.

Like most of you, I really enjoyed his work in TREMORS (great updating of the 50’s B-movie formula) and THE PLAYER. And I also enjoyed him in THE RIGHT STUFF as astronaut Gus Grissiom (although the script wrongly portrays Grissiom as not so bright).

R.I.P. Fred Ward, so good in one of my favourite Walter Hill films, 'Southern Comfort'
He's also great in a little seen thriller called 'Miami Blues' with Alec Baldwin!

Fred Ward was one of those actors whose performances you could enjoy no matter the project. While I can't stand Sweet Home Alabama, my wife plays it all the time and his brief appearances make it a bit more tolerable. I loved Remo Williams and hope someday somebody can do that character justice the way they have recently with Jack Reacher.

Agreed. He added extra layers of quality to that film.

The news about the death of Vangelis is so, so sad.

State of Independence is such a terrific track. And Carl Sagan used a load of Vangelis’s music on the Cosmos tv series which blew me away.

Blade Runner is a triumph. Most people probably remember him for Chariots of Fire but BR’s end credits instrumental is perfect.

Sad to read about Vangelis He made plenty of wonderful music, but in particular, the album of 1492 is one of my all-time favorites. I also hope for a release of the actual film score one day. I especially recall a beautiful piece of choral music in the scene in which Columbus is walking along the Queen, in some kind of celebration (I really need to rewatch the movie).

RIP Vangelis, loved your music since the mid 80s when I first discovered it. Some of the favourites are Soil Festivities , Mask, Mythodea and China. Also the collaborations with Jon Anderson.

Great composer, one of my favourites.

Two phenomenal scores also for two underrated (imo) historical epics:

I am a big sucker for synth, and even more for synth combined with more traditional instruments.

For me, Vangelis was a genius.

    RIP :(
