I love all the Indiana Jones titles, TBH.

    Okay there's one I don't like...................

INDIANA JONES AND THE RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK

as it appeared on DVD covers. I never thought it necessary to change the first film's title to match the others.

IJATLC is probably my favorite title of the bunch. Always loved it.

I was half joking about the new film just being called INDY. That would piss me off actually.

Same with Star Wars. That first film I saw in 1977 was called Star Wars and it will always remain that, not Episode IV or A New Hope, although I don't mind those as subtitles.

To be fair they never changed the actual title of the film. It’s only ever appeared that way in marketing. Not too different from SUPERMAN being marked as SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE.

If they had altered it within the main titles that would have been annoying.

    Excellent point.

Apologies, Temple of Doom a prequel. At any rate -- both Raiders and Last Crusade have Nazis, before WWII gets going.

I can't wait to see the first images of Ford in his fedora and jacket for the new film.

I still remember my excitement when this image first appeared.

Without Spielberg and without the key original personnel outside of Ford this really isn't an Indy film. The last time I truly engaged with anything was the 90's novel series and Fate of Atlantis game which is essentially Indy 4 anyways.

It couldn't be worse than Skull but then as Quarrel would say it doesn't do to tempt providence.

As much as I would have liked to see Spielberg bring that magic again, I just don’t think he has it in him anymore. He’s a very different person and filmmaker from the young man that helmed the first film, and that was most apparent with CRYSTAL SKULL.

At least with a new set of filmmakers, there’s the potential for rejuvenation. But we shall see. I’m more optimistic with someone new rather than any of the old guard, especially if Spielberg isn’t comfortable to have Indy actively kill bad guys.

I agree. I think a fresh creative team is a positive.

I would say that I greatly enjoyed Infernal Machine and the Emperor’s Tomb. They felt like real Indy adventures.

I mean you just need to look at the team involved; David Koepp, the writer of Jurassic Park, Spider-Man, and Mission Impossible, alongside James Mangold, the director of Logan, Ford v Ferrari, and Walk The Line - and the cast we're getting. I mean come on!

If they are filming in Scotland makes me wonder what Scottish myth it will be tied to.

Are they filming close to Loch Ness?

Of course, they might also be using Scotland to double for another country. Glasgow, in particular, has been used to play New York for a number of major productions.

Given the limitations on international travel caused by COVID-19, it would make sense that they'd want to do as much filming inside the UK as possible.

They are filming in the highlands per reports, so it will be too rural to double for NYC

Koepp is not involved anymore. His Indy 5 script was put where it belonged: in the bin.

It’s the weakest but it’s not a quality drop to the series like Phantom Menace was to Star Wars, and I’d rather have it than not.

Can anyone remember what the other two titles were they copyrighted at the time? There were three including Crystal Skull, I feel like one of them may have been City of The Gods..?

INDIANA JONES AND THE SAUCERMEN FROM MARS was scheduled already back in the 90s, and much of that script ended up in Crystal Skull.

No, it wasn’t that, I found them. Turns out there were six of them registered (to effectively hide Skull) :
Indiana Jones and the City of Gods
Indiana Jones and the Destroyer of Worlds
Indiana Jones and the Fourth Corner of the Earth
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Indiana Jones and the Lost City of Gold
Indiana Jones and the Quest for the Covenant

Indianna Jones and the fourth corner of the earth sounds like the search for the garden of Eden that would be awesome…

Of course this doesn’t fit with the current rumors of the moon etc

Yeah, once Spielberg left so did Koepp.

Yes I think he said that a new director would want to bring own writer and direction to it so he left the project, which seems fair enough.
I wonder if he'll get any credit on the final film? It'll be interesting to see if they base any of it on his story- you'd assume a bit of it would be hanging around because Disney probably had involvement in it too, plus Spielberg is still involved of course.

It'll be a good one to find out about his draft for the inevitable making-ofs a few years down the line!

I would love to see Koepp's unused draft surface someday and give it a read. He's not a great writer but, when he's on point, he can be a very good one, and I would be fascinated to know what direction he and Spielberg were taking the film versus where Mangold will take it.

With CRYSTAL SKULL Koepp had a thankless job of trying to rush a script that combined elements from completely different drafts in order to please all three parties which is why you see a lot of cracks in the seams with that film. I never blamed him for that film’s issues. That was all on Spielberg and Lucas not seeing eye to eye and Spielberg throwing his hands up “okay George, whatever”.

These films were always Lucas’ baby, which is why I was initially excited to see Spielberg get a final crack at Indy 5 because he’d be on his own and I would hope have a much more creatively active role compared to KOTCS. But given he dropped out, that just showed he may not have had his heart in it as he thought he did, and so I’m glad he left because I wouldn’t have wanted Spielberg coasting. Allow someone who actually WANTS to make it.

In all honesty, I think Spielberg already lost his kinetic touch by TLC. That film doesn’t feel nearly as energetic and hard hitting as his one-two punch with RAIDERS and DOOM. Luckily, CRUSADE at least had an interesting dynamic with Ford and Connery to make up for that.

Yeah I don't really like it when Koepp gets instantly trashed whenever his name is mentioned: he's done some bad films but he's also done some massive hits too so clearly he knows something about the job.
It would certainly be great to see it pop up at some point like many of the previous Indy drafts have (has that happened to Indy more than most?). I thought City of the Gods had lots of good stuff in which I'd have liked to have seen in the movie, but it did have a few parts where I thought Crystal Skull improved on it too.

@AKillToAView Ever since James Mangold pretty much confirmed that part of the story will take place in NYC I have been wondering where they would shoot those scenes because I don't see them traveling to NYC under the current circumstances. Based on that photo, Glasgow makes perfect sense!

I'm guessing it'll be a combination of sets built at Pinewood, a city like Liverpool or Glasgow doubling for it, CGI, and maybe some genuine location filming in the actual city (if at all possible).

They were making old man jokes about Indy in his last adventure...13 years ago.

Seeing him play the role at the age he is now is going to be embarassing.Especially with Speilberg and Lucas gone and Kennedy and Waller Bridge involved.

Uh oh. If you don't like movies that have Kathleen Kennedy involved in the production team then I've got some bad news for you about Raiders of the Lost Ark, Temple of Doom, and Last Crusade.

Since you keep reminding everyone how terrible it's going to be and it doesn't seem to be giving you any pleasure, I genuinely wonder why you keep posting in this thread.

Nice try,but everyone knows that Kennedy was basically a glorified secretary back then whose main job was probably making Speilberg and Lucas coffee.

I can see why Speilberg and lucas backed out of this one.Speilberg directing would basically mean he would be working for his former employee and Lucas, well we all know he feels about being stabbed in the back by Kennedy on the sequel trilogy.
