Both my Wife and I love Agatha Christie and the thought of Johnson reinventing the genre with that cast and Dan in the lead, well I'm so anticipating this film.

I'd seen some pretty poisonous reviews online and steered clear for a while. However, I finally caught up with it this week.
Personally, I rather enjoyed it. At it's best, it's a riveting drama that has some charming human moments and some genuinely anxiety-inducing nightmare qualities.
However, it's a tonal hodgepodge. It's part hellish-cautionary tale and part whimsical-surrealistic oddity. Neither really mesh well together or prove distinct enough on their own merits.
Daniel Craig is quite fun in his role - however, he's totally incongruous to the rest of the film. Oddly so. You could snip out his part and it wouldn't impact the film, despite him having a fairly substantial supporting part. His role also throws up way more questions than answers (why is a posj Englishman naked and living in south central?). Though this film will satisfy anyone who wants to see a shot of a flying naked Craig kissing Halle Berry's arse.
Nonetheless - for someone who didn't know much about the Rodney King trials - I thought the film was arresting and intriguing. If not a little half-cooked.
Worth watching for the arse-kissing bit though.
I don't know much about the LA Riots, but I do appreciate the film trying to tell the story from the perspective of a mother and not a cop/rioter. Where it really disappoints is that it doesn't solely focus on her nightmare, it darts here and there between wild youngster, horny teenagers, and the British lune next door, who goes from raving lunatic to daddy day care in all of 5 minutes.
Other than the arse kissing (seriously wtf?!?), I can't get my head around how this film was created by the same women who created 'Mustang'.
I know DC said he was such a fan he reached out to work with her, but damn son, was this really the best project she had to offer him?
It wasn't good, but not nearly as bad as one would have expected based on the reviews. I think the issue is that the film had enormous potential, in terms of material and talent...and it somehow went awry (kind of like Dream House).
If nothing else, it allows Halle Berry to join the long list of past Bond actors with whom he has worked.

DENIS: I had absolutely no idea it would be Robert! I wanted someone older. Everyone wanted me to meet with Daniel Craig, so I met with him in London. I wanted someone I can work with. He is such a great actor but he is someone I cannot touch. I cannot feel. I thought that if this is a film with Daniel Craig, I will have to change the script, to completely transform the story. I needed to understand the economy of the film, and Robert brought me much more than a shine or production attention — he brought me himself.
