Saw this many years ago, and got hold of it a while back, but still haven t given it a rewatch.
Watching them back to back works really well.
They are all pretty good, but the first is probably the best.
Agreed. Donner treated it so seriously that it really had impact! Still chills me today. Will certainly watch it for Halloween!
It's the score running throughout the film as well,so so atmospheric,it just pulls you into the film whether you want to or not !!
Yes, that was Jerry Goldsmith wasn't it?
Certainly was,he did all 3 films, and won his only Oscar for the first film's score.
He was a brilliant composer ,I think he performed The Omen films with the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
They kept the tone exactly the same throughout and made 3 horror gems.
The Descent is an outstanding film, one of my favorites, and a must watch during the Halloween season.
I watched this movie a bunch when I was younger, never failed to give me the creeps. Definitely a classic of its genre.
Never seen this and wasn't going to bother, but it cropped up on Netflix so I gave it a go.
Enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Some great violent action throughout the film, and a lot of it did make me laugh.
Some good nasty make up effects and I certainly enjoyed it more than 'Jason Takes Manhattan'
Excellent choice, sir. I love that movie! Went to see it in theatres back in 2003.
Thanks @DarthDimi
Then I gave Dream Warriors a revisit. Great stuff!
I very much enjoy all three movies, with the second one being my favorite to watch. The first one, though, has a better-structured and developed story than the other two. There is a strong sense of foreboding and the movie gradually and effectively creates this throughly unescapable situation for the main characters, in which they are forced to come to terms with a truth that would've at first seemed ridiculous to any sane person. With its isolated monasteries and graveyards, and ruins in remote locations, the film creates a visual sense of intrigue and mystery.
The second movie has a number of interesting and engaging subplots featuring a variety of characters, which is what I like about it, but the overall story follows a slightly monotonous pattern in which one character finds out about Damien and then gets promptly killed off. Also, Richard Thorn, ostensibly the protagonist who has to ultimately face the evil threat, isn't given enough agency as a character until later in the film. Some more scenes dealing with Damien's realization that he is the Antichrist would've been welcome, as well. The scene in the classroom is particularly great.
The third movie has some great ideas but it needed a thorough script rewrite to exploit their full potential. The subject matter of world hunger and the whole concept of the Disciples of the Watch are only superficially dealt with, and DeCarlo aside, the priests remain too anonymous as characters, not to mention clumsy. The title sequence, however, with the daggers gradually coming together as acquired by people all over the world, is magnificent, especially when set against Jerry Goldsmith's music (all three of his scores are terrific). Sam Neill is also riveting as Thorn, and one of the film's strengths, as manifested most prominently through his performance, is the duality of Damien, since he is not only the son of the Devil, but also a human being with needs, wants and desires, as observed through his relationship with Kate. Also, one of the film's best lines is about how "true evil is as pure as innocence."
The Blu-ray contains (among the "extras") also the short movie Six Shooter, a very, very black tragicomedy for which McDonagh won the 2006 short film Academy Award, and which stars Brendan Gleeson. And it's worth buying the disc alone.
I recently got my hands on a long awaited 4K copy of this landmark Christopher Nolan helmed series and so had no choice but to revisit it again. I last watched these last Christmas going into the New Year and gave my detailed comments at the time, so won't go into it again. All I'll say is that all three films really benefit from the upgrade. The picture is supremely crisp, and Wally Pfister's cinematographic talents really come alive. It's truly a delight to see some of these famous action scenes in this format (the final city aerial battle in TDKR and the night time truck flip sequence in TDK just pop). The sound mix is also much better in 4K, and Zimmer's distinctive score isn't so overpowering (everything is better balanced). This time I really noticed and enjoyed all the little nods to classic Bond sprinkled throughout this series (TB Skyhook, FRWL shoe blade, GF gangster meet and kill, LTK mid air plane grab, etc. etc.). This is one of my favourite trilogies of all time, up there with LOTR. Just magnificent and epic work all round in my view. Mr. Nolan, I'm not sure if EON will ever let you take over the reins of Bond, but you have a proponent in this humble fan. Regardless, I'm looking forward to what you come up with next.

Can't go wrong with Porky's.
I totally forgot they played the Psycho theme when Jamie Lee is talking to her real life mum Janet.
I really like H2O. Didn't bother with the ridiculous next film. As far as I'm concerned the Halloween saga with Jamie Lee ended with H2O.
Look forward to the new film though as its a different timeline and story.
Not sure if a lot of our younger members have seen this. Saw it when it came out in 1986 and for me it was the best film of that year.
Haven't seen it in ages and it's still a great film. It's an irreverent look at the relationship between Sid Vicious of The Sex Pistols and his groupie girlfriend Nancy Spungen, and their short drug addled lives.
This is funny, sad and tragic. Great music from The Sex Pistols (obviously), Joe Strummer, and The Pogues. Gary Oldman is just incredible in this and is a dead ringer for the real Sid. He's matched by Chloe Webb as Nancy who is just brilliant.
Quirky direction from Alex Cox, this is no doubt his best film.
Even if you don't know or care about The Sex Pistols, this is worth checking out.
The new film intrigues me, certainly the changes I accidentally read about. I definately want to watch Halloween 1978 and Halloween 2018 as a double bill.
Halloween H20 had a good ending for me which the next film competely ruined.
