Magnificent. Seeing this on my 4K TV was just stunning. Pure cinema.
Kubrick's best in my opinion.
I bought the 4K Special Edition, to say 2001: A Space Odyssey is incredible in that format is an understatement. It's one of the best cinematic experiences I have ever had.
@LeonardPine and @Fire_and_Ice_Returns,
May I ask what size of 4K TVs you have, and how did your viewing of “2OO1” compare to seeing it in a theater? Specifically, seeing it in 70mm.
I purchased the 4K Special Edition some months ago, on the assumption that I was going to buy a 4K TV set, but I’ve delayed the purchase for various reasons. I’m led to believe that a 4K TV should be at-least 50 inches in size for one to get the full effect. Is that true?
I’ve seen “2OO1” a lot over the years (3 times this year alone!), and every time I see it, I always walk away with sense of awe at what Kubrick accomplished. Its’ (by far), my favorite movie of all time.
Thanks.
I have a 50 inch 4K TV which is good for my movie and games room, seating is quite close so it works for me. The size of the room can impact on what size TV is suitable. I have alot of 4K films mostly modern films and 2001 is considerably better than most if not all the other films I have. The clarity of image is breath taking in 4K, when you do get a 4K TV make sure its True 4K and HDR or HDR10.
Well made and funny, but I still prefer the first one.
I have a 60 inch 4K TV and the film looks simply stunning. Unfortunately I've never seen 2001 in the cinema. Although I did see it's sequel 2010 on the big screen which I find hard to remember much about.
Now onto the Bob the Builder movie about union disputes and going on strike.
Can we fix it?!!!!
As long as the Teamsters agree.

I was a bit skeptic towards this, but it is a fantastic Pixar movie. One of their very best and a future classic for sure.
I'm not a massive fan of this film. Well acted, technically incredible and of course great direction. But it doesen't add up to much for me.
I think it came a bit late in the 'Nam' film craze early in the 80's. Apocalypse Now had already done the insanity of Vietnam thing and is a vastly superior film. Platoon had done the horror of 'Nam realism thing and is also a better film. Full Metal Jacket falls between two stools, and for the life of me i can't figure out the point to this film. What exactly is Kubrick trying to say?
The first part of the film (that most people seem to prefer) feels like the equivalent of being bashed over the head with a metal tray for an hour. Wonderfully acted, yes, but i find it gets tiresome. Private Pyle is also problematic. He successfully passes out as a Marine but hasn't lost any weight whatsoever! Also his breakdown seems to happen rather quickly, at least for him to consider killing the Gunnery Sargeant and committing suicide.
Some of the Nam sequences really are excellent though, especially the sniper scenes where the camerawork is top notch. You also believe you're in Vietnam even though it was mostly shot in London! I do like the film but it still feels as though it was playing catch up to far superior fare.
A Simple Favour utterly ridiculous though Ryan Reynolds is a very lucky man.
The Foreigner right from the start I was totally locked into this well crafted film, Brosnan and Jackie Chan are excellent, the Director is pretty good also ;)
Another great Coens movie, consisting of six different episodes, or shorter features if you will. All unrelated, the only common theme is the wild west. The first, the title episode, is hilarious.
I enjoy the first film, and love the second.
Yes, the opening episode is the best. The rest are a bit hit and miss! The Liam Neeson one is a bit pointless!
Ok... I think I am now pregnant. LA may feel a little too much like a retread of New York, but two movies just isn't enough for this mono-eyed uber badass. Carpenter and Russell could have made Escape From Machine Mart (or whatever the equivalent they have in the US), and it would have been awesome.
On the scale of Badassness, Kurt Russel/Snake Plisken, is a few notches below William E. Fairbairn, and a notch or two above Komodo Dragons.
That made me laugh. :D
Yes, not bad but definitely the weakest for me as well. I really liked the one with the settlers. I am also impressed with how James Franco has grown as an actor. If only he could do a British accent, he would be Bond material.
AKA Murder Geckos.
Enyoyable Spanish comedy, based on a comic.
