Same here, it was much better than I expected it to be – even with such an impressive ensemble cast. Won't get my hopes up for a genre revival, but at least it looks like a Benoit Blanc sequel is in the works!
The Architect says in Reloaded that this is the Sixth Iteration/Version of the Matrix, personally the end of Revolutions I just think the system is in a process of rebooting and starting iteration 7, the machines will keep the cycle going until they find a Matrix the humans will not question or wake from.
I have always thought Zion is part of the Matrix its the only way the films truly work for me, what is really outside the Matrix could be something else entirely and even more horrifying.
I'm just interested in seeing how Neo and Trinity returns. There is a theory that Neo's residual self image is still in the Matrix after he allowed Smith to copy himself onto him and then exploded. Similar to how the Oracle ended up surviving so to speak. Therefore Neo is sort stuck in the Matrix only. Trinity on the other hand was impaled and died in the real world. No clue how she could be brought back unless she was cloned or somehow resurrected by the machines as a favor to Neo for stopping Smith.
It very much depends on theory's of what is really happening, my theory would follow that Trinity and Neo/Anderson never left there pods so they are still asleep.
There is also the possibility of Neo and Trinity being digital avatars inhabited by people who look nothing like them that are asleep in pods.
You could go on and on that's what is great about it, I hope the 4th film goes in a direction none of us considered.
There's an interesting theory that the machine world is itself controlled by an outer layer of humans.
Let's face it, Zion + Machine City still feels like a "small place" for a planet the size of Earth. It wouldn't be entirely inconceivable that there's something bigger still, ultimately still just man-made. I rather like that.
Easily the best of all the Jack Ryan adaptations to date. Great cast. Alec Baldwin still the closest portrayal of Ryan on screen.
Baldwin's so fantastic as Jack Ryan, easily my favorite portrayal of the character. Great film.
Taking at face value Zion is on real earth I agree its a very small area of Earth, it would ultimately make sense that it was man that was creating all the restrictions using the machines to serve another agenda.
Exactly. We never see any water.
I think it’s the movie that foreshadowed what’s happening nowadays, because we didn’t listen from the past (which it’s set in). Be nice to others, people, it can go far!
Not as bad as I thought. The first half is rather interesting, before all the boring action sets in. Nice seeing Lance Henriksen as the founder of Weyland Industries. And Colin Salmon is in it. The best part of the movie is the end credit sequence which is insanely cool.
I still think this is the best 007 spoof/hommage ever made. Haven't seen the second one, but I'm going to very soon.
Peter Pan
Will always be my favourite Disney film. Captain Hook will also always be my favourite Disney character.
It's better than the abysmal AVP: Requiem.
I haven t seen that one. Not terribly interested.
You aren't missing anything.
I remember seeing the first AVP in theaters and quite enjoying it at the time.
Cool that it takes place on Norwegian territory.
One of my favourite 'paranoia' thrillers of the 70's (along with The Parallax View). Great casting. Full of terrfic, seasoned character actors. Jason Robards and Hal Holbrook especially.
I absolutely love the final scene. The juxtaposition as Nixon is sworn in for his 2nd term whilst Woodward and Bernstein type up their story in the background which will eventually lead to Nixon's downfall.
Although I have seen this more times than is healthy, I haven't seen it in years.
It hasn't lost any of its magic for me. Still as cool as the day I saw it way back in 92!
I did forget how close Mr Orange's story is to the end of the film. For some reason I thought it was much earlier in the proceedings.
Still my favourite Tarantino with one of the best film titles ever IMO... 😁
I agree I think its Tarantino's best work, brilliant film. I made this some time ago in homage to Reservoir Dogs...
Based on positive comments here, I watched AvP recently and thoroughly enjoyed it. I particularly liked the female lead; while not a carbon copy, like Ripley she was a strong character who was not a ball buster.
Now that's cool @Fire_and_Ice_Returns 😎
I agree with everyone, RD is one of QT’s best! I also think Once Upon a Time in Hollywood will be a new classic from him.
Good fun, though perhaps it would have benefitted from a lengthier, more detailed introduction to the lead character in a non-action context, because in the early part of the film, after the opening action scenes, he seems to take a backseat to the other people in the story, as the plot starts to come together (though I still enjoyed that part very much).
It's a blast to see Treat Williams hamming it up, and Billy Zane is an undervalued, very watchable and entertaining actor. And of course, Patrick McGoohan is always a welcome presence. The film also features Catherine Zeta-Jones as a fun villainess that switches sides very easily, haha.
I loved the part where Diana Palmer meets Kit Walker in New York and fails to recognize he's the same guy who rescued her just a few days/hours ago! Seeing The Phantom jumping over cars in a busy New York street was also delightful. And I must mention the absolutely brilliant opening of the film, which begins with a splendid piece of text that references the daily strip origins of The Phantom, and then, in slightly over a minute, tells you everything you need to know about the character, in a dramatic and exciting way, accompanied by narration courtesy of Mr. McGoohan. Truly top notch!
This film is good companion piece to its 90's contemporaries The Rocketeer and The Shadow.
The jump scares don't really do it for me anymore since I've seen the film so many times, but it's still a tense, claustrophobic and eerie movie, and definitely one of my favorite horror films. I got to see it before it released back in 2006 when I was visiting a friend in South Carolina who worked for the local theater. His boss said if we previewed some animated movie to make sure it played OK, we could fire up The Descent in another room afterward, neither film obviously being released yet. It was us and two of his friends in a really big theater, pitch black, seeing it for the first time, it was amazing.
One of my favorite horror films; the traveling through the caves themselves is uncomfortable enough, much less what comes later.
From what I understand there are three versions of the ending. One is the original UK release; the next was one done for a US release and a third that combines the two for a gut wrenching conclusion.
