I watched the first one so I could go straight into the second one now that both are available. I didn't bother watching the second film after all. The first was bad enough.
I am so hopeful Snyder has a personal creative reset. He has talent and a distinctive visual flair, but he's completely gone off the rails lately. His comments lately about director's cuts were just insane.
I saw this in a cinema in Lübeck when it came out in Germany at the end of 1984 or very early in 1985 and (IIRC) only watched it again once from a VHS tape or early DVD. I think it is still a blast and much more of a fun than in any way a horror movie. Apparently Chris Columbus' early script was much darker and with a lot of gory detail, but I think Steven Spielberg (as executive producer) and director Joe Dante sort of toning it down to a more family-friendly level was a wise decision.
A great movie, I keep meaning to buy the second film which i saw in the cinema.
I actually just ordered Gremlins 2 on Blu-ray as well. Haven't seen that one but as usually I am confident that the production/directorial team of Spielberg etc./Dante can do no real wrong. Funny thing is, I what I ordered is a (used) combo of Gremlins (which I own already) and Gremlins 2 because this is available far more cheaply than buying only the second one... So I'll have two copies of the first one after that.
Probably the longest Kaiju battle I've seen so far in the series, and one WTF moment for the ages :
Funny thing : No woman with a speaking part in this movie. Wonder why ?
Finally got a 4k copy of this, though if I'm honest I dont see a huge improvement on the bluray. No matter, its still great viewing. Director John Milius was criticised for taking it too seriously by some (it was scripted by Oliver Stone!) at the time! Remember loving it on seeing it in 1982 and I still really enjoy it. Arnie is great casting, and Sandahl Bergman ( what happened to her?) is wonderful as leading lady, James Earl Jones plays Darth Vader in the flesh this time as Thulsa Doom, and the whole production, from set design to costumes to Basil Poledouris fabulous score are all top notch! Milius directs well and stages memorable scenes (the crucifixion, the hordes of Dooms followers!) and great action!

Really enjoyed this, and it has a great techno soundtrack by Reznor and Ross.
Of course, you do have the various dancers from “Seatopia” and be on the lookout during the kidnap scene. There is a Playboy pinup displayed. Blink and you’ll miss it, but it is there! :D
To answer your question, while I've never really thought about it, the lack of a female character in GODZILLA vs. MEGALON could be due to the minimal nature of the human sub-plot and the small cast (i.e. the little boy and the two leads). Interestingly, we did have a strong female protagonist in the film that preceded it (GODZILLA vs. GIGAN) and to a lesser extent in the film that followed it (GODZILLA vs. MECHAGODZILL).
Triva: Due to the wide promotion of this film in the US (in 1976), GODZILLA vs. MEGALON is the only "G" film, until GODZILLA:MINUS ONE, to actually earn more in the international market than it did in Japan. Of course, GODZILLA:MINUS ONE was wildly popular everywhere (it is just ending its' theatrical run this week), while GODZILLA vs. MEGALON was not a hit in Japan.

Next, I'll take advantage of May 1st to watch A Jester's Chronicles, the only Karel Zeman movie that is not, to the best of my knowledge, available on DVD in France.

A much better movie than the preceeding one, Godzilla vs. Megalon. And since I saw the poster for the movie on a german Kino when I was living in West-Berlin, I always thought that MechaGodzilla's design was really cool. The movie fulfilled all my expectations, even if the Big G didn't appear much, and King Caesar lookes to much like a mangy dog. The song to awaken him came out of nowhere, but if we can stand Mothra' song, we can stand this one. And the final battle was really great. Easily in my top five Showa era movies.
I was expecting more, but what I got was a little flat.
I followed this up with quite possibly the worst film I can recall.
The Meg 2 : The Trench
The first one was far fetched, but it maintained a certain fun side to it as well.
This is just bad in every way possible. Acting, story, effects...at no point did I find anything good or positive in this movie.
With an estimated $130 million dollar budget :-O I have to ask. How?
Not to mention the ending, which is just... What's another word for silly, stupid and retarded?
The New Batch is a very underrated sequel, I had a lot of fun with it. I will have a look on Amazon and see if I can find a copy.
I always see movies from a collectors point of few, I have multiple versions of many films.
Small Soldiers is another Dante film I have not seen in a long time, I had it on VHS think that is the last time I saw it. It's not on the level of Gremlins though in similar style and fun.
Fistful of Dollars 1964 A heart thumping Masterpiece, this is the best watch I have had of this ground breaking film by Leone I forgot how monumentally great it is, It is one of the most influential films ever made.
Eastwood's climb to superstardom was helped greatly by this movie, and to think Clint really did not know how this film was going to perform, I find it highly amusing that most of Clint's wardrobe for the film was bought buy himself, he even used the boots he wore in the TV show Rawhide.
He even bought the cigars at the airport!
Classic film, based on Kurosawas 'Yojimbo', and a plot even used in LTK!
A regular Monday night movie on BBC 1 in the early days (they showed a lot of Clints movies in this slot,'Dirty Harry', 'Coogans Bluff ', 'The Eiger Sanction') Ah, those were the days!
We are probably around the same age, in my youth when we only had 3 then 4 channels in the UK the likes of Eastwood, Reynold's and Heston movies were my go to.
I have bought many of Eastwood's films over the years though during my current rewatch I realize there are many I still need to buy, I do have all the Dirty Harry films and most of his westerns on Bluray and DVD.

Great films there I have most of those, I kind of stopped buying Clint's films after Heartbreak Ridge way back when though I did recently purchase Unforgiven on 4K which is amazing and did upgrade most of the films I did have to Bluray.
I was looking at my DVD of Firefox earlier its been some time since I watched that film, going to revisit the Dollars trilogy first.
Criminally I don't currently own another genre defining film of Clint's Play Misty For Me.
I had many of Clint's films on VHS which I threw out.
Meant to add 'High Plains Drifter' to my list, one of my favourite movie posters too!
For comparative purposes: Robert de Niro is involved in 37, Sean Connery in 30 of my movies...so I guess Clint is No. 1, as I can't really think of anyone else who might be a candidate.
