I thought that 'action' scene like nearly all the others in TWINE was woeful. It's clear Apted didn't have a clue about how to make thrilling action scenes. The last time I saw the ski chase I was embarrassed at how by the numbers & pedestrian it was. As for the acting in the underground scene, as you mention, amateur of Brosnan. Terrible overacting
They should have added a light bulb above his head.
The next scene you mention is really odd, not just for Brozza's rather camp delivery of his admittedly terrible lines, but also because it suggests that him and Electra have some sort of deep relationship and he is badly wounded by her 'betrayal', when nothing preceding this scene suggests anything more than his usual attachment to a 'Bond girl'. And no, stroking that screen doesn't count. And then he sends Elecktra to her room like an admonishing father. Nothing about that scene works, as you say.
A great top 008 except for NSNA IMHO.
Indeed. I've read that TWINE's premise was meant to be Brosnan's OHMSS. He thinks he's found Tracy when in fact he's found Blofeld. The problem is that cinema history's number one ladykiller gets awfully sentimental and attached to a girl he's only known maybe about a day? He didn't fall for Tracy until after he knew her for 3 months. It might've been more effective if Elektra had been some woman out of Bond's past but coming directly after GE and TND that might've made her character seem like the love child of Alec Trevelyan 006 and Paris Carver. And they're definitely should've been no 2nd girl(Christmas Jones) waiting in the wings to give TWINE the standard Bond film happy ending. In retrospect I have this feeling that if EON had made CR seven years earlier, the result would've looked a lot like TWINE(cringe).
Moreover this came right after the Paris situation in the preceding film & therefore conveyed and compounded an impression to me that Brosnan Bond was emotionally vulnerable when it came to the fairer sex. Thankfully he was redeemed in DAD.
Unique, nice ranking there! We have the same general least favorites, barring DAF (#21 for me), and some similar favorites (SF, GF, CR, OHMSS).
Man all this talk about TWINE makes me sad; I honestly do wish I loved that film as much as I used to, but I'd be a liar if I said it impresses me much. It's one of the few Bond films for me that has gotten consistently weaker with each watch, until it has now come near the bottom of my list.

LALD's been bumped up a fair bit and TND bumped down about as much. I'm also becoming more sympathetic to QoS, while the unevenness of OP has made me question its placement in the top ten.
It's really a shame that I can't nominate any of the post-GE Brosnan films to a position anywhere near the top ten, since he was my first Bond. Definitive, but his middle two entries were distinctly flat and plagued with mediocre writing/uneven acting, while DAD is, as entertaining as it is, a mess through and through.
I'm relieved TWINE fatigue never set in for me. Still neck and neck with OHMSS as one of my all time favorites. It does sound like TWINE is one of the more divisive films in the series. Folks either rank it high or rank it low.
I envy you; I hope you can continue to hold it in the high regard I used to. I definitely don't hate the film - or even dislike it, but its flaws have bothered me more and more over time and I always seem to like it a bit less each watch. Still, to me, a weaker Bond film still beats many other movies out there!
How very true. The number of times I've seen even my lowest ranked Bonds...
@FoxRox - I can sympathise. Brosnan was my first Bond and I enjoyed TWINE greatly back in the day. Unfortunately, its flaws only become ever clearer and more jarring each time I revisit it. As of now, I see it as a mess of a film — endowed with some truly great elements, but they're woven together so poorly that the only list of Bond movies it tops is that of wasted potential, IMO.
I still rank it over DAD, though. That one was criminally overindulgent and just didn't know when to stop. Worse, no matter how entertaining and carefree it was, it just lacked the good stuff from the onset. There was no Sophie Marceau or meaty part for M. Or even the idea of a good villain that Renard had (Graves is laughably bad in comparison). And the action scenes were too hip-popped and special effects. TWINE at least evoked some classic Bond themes with its action sequences, even if most of them failed to the classic Bonds justice.
Only four spaces separate the two on my list but it's quite a noticeable gap IMO.
@Birdleson what daftness in SF, GE, and YOLT exceeds that of LALD? I know I've read you were at the right age when first viewing LALD. Even still, the film is lacking in rationality.

Hey, that's a great Bond to have a higher opinion of!
I have exactly the same opinion. I would only add the great villains and ally.
I definitely enjoy every Bond film to an extent, some higher some lower. The series is just so much fun overall. I definitely have underrated AVTAK too much in the past; certain elements dragged it down too much for me. I think it's about to enjoy a little raise though. Since my 2015 Bondathon though MR has firmly stayed in the bottom spot and I highly doubt that will change soon. I still like that one too, but for the time being, my clear least favorite Bond film.
