  • Goldeneye is still way too high.

For a most unorthodox rating? Would you put it in the 22-24 range then? And if so, in place of which of the other 3: Goldfinger, Casino Royale, or From Russia With Love?

No, I am just using the opportunity to stamp on it.

Your stamp of approval? My, what a show of admiration for GE.

Watched DAD. The last third pretty much sucks all to Hell, but the bulk of it gets better with each viewing.

DAD is a movie that I used to really struggle with. Slowly but surely it's risen up my ranking.
Never going to make the top ten, but an entertaining and enjoyable romp for the most part. Middle of the road, top end of the bottom of the ranks...if that makes sense.

Perfectly describes what DAD is to me. As far as the bottom ranks go, DAD is damn good entertainment.

That's a pretty decent top ten and an excellent top five @Dennison. I would have preferred to see a bit 'Moore' love however, particularly FYEO/TSWLM. On a side note, it's amazing how many times I see FYEO/LALD in the 10-15 slot around here. I think even I have these two in that range.

Good to see DAD closer to where I believe it belongs after recent positive remarks on the page. SP is about right (I would have guessed you had it higher) as is TND imho.

Interesting, what made you think I'd have Spectre higher?

I'm not sure. I always got the impression you really liked that film, based on your comments in the Production thread.

Finally finished a ranking that can stand until I do the Bond-athon from December 15th to January 15th.

My name's Bond. James Bond. - An unexpected honour, Mr Bond. Your reputation precedes you.
    (...the Top 5 won't change I think...)

1 On Her Majesty's Secret Service
    2 Dr. No
    3 Casino Royale
    4 Goldfinger
    5 You Only Live Twice

Well, I must say, I've had a lovely evening. You? - Well, once again, the pleasure was all yours. You'll understand if I don't call.
(...I most definitely will call...a great bunch of fantastic and enjoyable movies, some could go up 1 or down 1, we'll see...)

6 The Spy Who Loved Me
    7 GoldenEye
    8 Diamonds Are Forever
9 The Man With The Golden Gun
    10 Skyfall
11 The World Is Not Enough
    12 Thunderball
    13 From Russia With Love

Shaken or stirred? - Do I look like I give a damn?
(...the middle section is definitely hardest to rank and films could go up or down several points, does it matter?...)

    14 Tomorrow Never Dies
    15 Moonraker
    16 Live And Let Die
    17 Die Another Day
    18 Spectre

Who would pay a million dollars to have me killed? - Jealous husbands, outraged chefs, humiliated tailors. The list is endless.
(...it appears the 80s films do the least for me, maybe coincidence? Maybe not. But I still do like all of them a lot...)

    19 The Living Daylights
    20 For Your Eyes Only
    21 Never Say Never Again
    22 Octopussy
    23 A View To A Kill
    24 Licence To Kill

Q, have I ever let you down? - Frequently.
(...no I wouldn't go that far but there is the one time I was tempted to turn the film off, what a disappointment this was after seeing the other movies....)

    25 Quantum Of Solace

I think it's probably more of a case of people being overly negative towards it. You'd think it was the worst film ever from some people on here.

I can understand that. As I've said before, it's just because it's the latest. SF received similar backlash (but also a lot of adulation) prior to SP's release (I was here and saw the numerous threads discussing everything possible) and my understanding is that the same applied to QoS (perhaps more so). Only CR was universally praised.

Given it's such a polarizing film however, it would be in EON's best interests not to remind people of it when they release B25. That's why I personally would prefer a reboot and failing that a standalone. Craig himself is a reminder sadly (due to the interconnectivity of his story), but I'll have to live with that.

Overall that’s a really excellent list; if you switch TLD with TSWLM it is super similar to my list. Your picks for 17-24 are perfect.

Interesting. TND used to be my bottom-ranked Brosnan film; it’s second to GE now on my list. Brosnan definitely deserved better content; after a well done GE, the following films are lacking and get progressively worse IMO.
That’s true enough. GE had the best Brosnan villain EASILY. Brosnan himself was never really the issue. I have to rate his era as the weakest, but it has its moments.
I prefer LTK for the villain and standalone quality. QoS is good, but more rough around the edges I think.
  • I am of the ilk who rate LTK and QOS very highly. 3 and 4 respectively, last I checked.
Wow those are high. They are definitely less traditional Bond films, but interesting nonetheless.
  • My number 2, I understand, is even more controversial: TWINE

But I have a perfectly ordinary number 1: OHMSS

(at least perfectly ordinary these days)

Well, I for one, like your top 3 @Some_Kind_Of_Hero , OHMSS and LTK are top 5 for me and TWINE cracks my top 10.

Awesome to see strong love for SF amidst vocal detractors! The only huge differences we have are GE and DAF. Otherwise fairly similar.

@FoxRox I think we all have a Bond guilty pleasure. DAF is mine. It's a bad film that is so bad that I love it.

Watched TWINE. Really enjoyed the first half, but, like several other entries, fails to follow through and deliver the goods. It does move up a couple of spots though. That may be temporary.

    Yeah! =D>

@Andi1996Ruegg Interesting that LTK and QOS are at the bottom of your rankings; they're often compared for obvious reasons. I don't recall, offhand, anyone disliking both of them to that degree before. Usually it's one or the other or, as in my case, one admires both.

It's not that I dislike LTK, I enjoyed it and can even say, I loved it quite a bit.
The problem with ranking all films is that some have to be at the bottom. Except QoS I would watch any of the other 24 at any time.

Here we go, some changes but mostly the same. I have come to a point where my opinions are more or less cemented. I categorize them as follows. The most interchangeable group is the one between 11-21, I like them all more or less the same and can’t really differentiate between them. Then comes a little gap down to 22 and 23 and then there is a large gap to TWINE. The only film I dread of watching.

    1. Quantum of Solace
    2. Casino Royale

    3. Dr. No
    4. Goldfinger
    5. Thunderball

    6. On Her Majesty’s Secret Service
    7. The Man With The Golden Gun
    8. From Russia With Love
    9. The Spy Who Loved Me
    10. Spectre

    11. Diamonds Are Forever
    12. Octopussy
    13. The Living Daylights
    14. You Only Live Twice
    15. Skyfall
    16. Live And Let Die
    17. Tomorrow Never Dies
    18. For Your Eyes Only
    19. Moonraker
    20. Goldeneye
    21. A View To A Kill

    22. Licence To Kill
    23. Die Another Day

    24. The World Is Not Enough

Connery’s era is unsurpassed overall, but I definitely prefer both GE and SF to YOLT. YOLT is the weak link of the 60s films, and it’s still good, but can’t reach the greatness of the other 5 60s films. It has a really great third act, but the first two thirds are more hit-and-miss for me.

I'm the opposite. I find the earlier half (when Bond arrives in Japan, learns about the culture etc.) to be top notch. From the moment Bond puts on his Jap disguise it goes downhill fast and even the massive Adam set can't save it for me. I find the whole latter half just lacking in tension.

The first and the third act are great but the second act - apart from Little Nellie - is pretty lame, especially the Ninja training, the pointless wedding and the laughable Japanese disguiese. Aki's death is also wasted, especially since she is simply replaced by more or less the same character so that there is no emotional pay-off to her death scene. What a shamefull end for poor Aki.
