MI Rogue Nation took note from the Tosca Opera scene and paid homage well.
But the storytelling aspect in those final scenes of QoS speak volumes. Makes you care about the characters.
That's the kind of THRILL people want....not bogus gadgets and OTT villains. Chase sequences have been relied upon too much in each Bond movie. I understand there was a time when producers wanted audiences to forget SC is not Bond anymore and to make up for it. But good storytelling and character-driven pieces are what set up a Casino Royale rather than a Die Another Day.
Without QoS, the relationship between Bond and M wouldn't have been established well enough for SF.
QoS introduced to us the style of Tom Ford in the series. How would you feel if Tom Ford were to direct a Bond movie in his own style with Dennis Gasner as set designer?
It might have a timeless look that ages very well like OHMSS.
Speak for everyone, please.
Ok, I won't but the money and crestivity speak for themselves. Most of the movies that nearly bankrupted or ruined the series (MR, DAD) have those qualities.
This new Mission Impossible movie is going to have the works of over 32 crew members who have worked in QoS!
MI series is QoS legacy
This has me even more excited then.
That would have been my wish too. I'm not sure I've seen enough of "young" Craig Bond.
Even getting a 2010 installment that continues to focus on Quantum with the same crew returning would've been a dream to me.
Absolutely right. That would have been a dream come true! Damn Shame we never got a third Craig Bond in the vein of CR and QOS.
It was the producers' plan to release films in May 2008 and Fall 2010.
There is the plan, and then reality takes over.
It'll always be one of the big upsets in the series for me, an enticing "what if?" that I wish had materialized.

To play devil's advocate, had a Bond film been released in 2010, perhaps the hype wouldn't have been so huge for Bond's return in 2012, then we'd have never had a Billion dollar Bond film.
Maybe use this idea as the basis for a series of graphic novels set between QOS and SF?
Or perhaps use this as a video game featuring Daniel Craig and Judi Dench by voice and likes to return.....
Yes. Whoever actualises this can just take my money!
This can't be done on a comic level. Not enough people will read it.
The best way EON can really capitalize this is to bring back any of the former Bond actors with digital touch up to de-age them and set the case to go see QoS or SF again as a re-release or Blu Ray special feature bonus and abridge these films retroactively.
There is potential here. EON is missing out and the fans are being left dry.
No need to wait all these years with nothing between the films. Video games are expensive and can be costly due to there being a limited market of consumers compared with movie goers.
I do. Connery and Rigg in OHMSS.
Well I'm no specialist, but I think Bond is a pretty good brand that should and does attract a readership. And writing a series of graphic novels surely must be cheaper than making a video game and thus easier than making its money back. And dwelling on unexplored elements of an existing timeline should be more appealing (IMO) than spinoffs about Felix Leiter or Moneypenny.
Would gladly see some graphic novels to fill in the gaps between QOS and SF, but I do think an extended re-edit of QOS is still my Holy Grail. Sure they don’t like to tinker, but QOS is a unique case in that they’re always apologizing for it.
Agreed, 100%. My biggest regret of the whole series is that EON stepped back from what they'd created with the CR/QOS Bond and went back to treading a lighter, more familiar path. They had something really special and I definitely needed to see more of that 2006-2008 Bond. I miss it all over again whenever I think about it!
How the hell can we communicate this stuff to MGW and BB?
Any upcoming Q&As around the world happening?
I blame Mendes.
In fairness to EON I doubt the direction they took from SF onwards was a reaction against QOS. I suspect their plan was always to slowly reintroduce the more ‘classic’ Bond elements into Craig’s films. Even in CR/QOS this was happening. I’m not sure what a third film in a similar vein would have added nor do I think the direction of Craig’s films would have fundamentally changed if it had been successful. We of course have the video game Blood Stone which in theory gives us an idea of how such a ‘third’ Craig film could have looked. While I’m not a gamer I don’t get the sense the story worked all that well nor was it overly successful critically. I think the timing and content of SF was for the best, and I’d argue saved Craig’s tenure.
As for a re-edited version of QOS, I’d be up for it. It’s a film with some funny ideas behind it (Forster’s ‘fast as a bullet’ concept which seems to have influenced the all too quick and rather badly paced editing style) that I don’t think does the story or the best parts of this film any justice. That said I doubt EON will do this, and perhaps it’s best that these creative failures remain and are not glossed over.
Yes, I think they did well under the circumstances. But I’d also say that like any other film it really doesn’t matter what happened behind the scenes. The work will always be judged in itself.
As it is, I think you have to take the good with the bad when it comes to QOS. There are things about it that I can’t ever enjoy (again, mostly due to the editing, which I don’t think can even be blamed on the tight schedule but the concept Forster/the producers ran with). At the same time it also has a lot going for it.
