I can get on board with some of that list.
However the shootout in a nightclub?? Michael Mann stages a great one in 'Collateral' and theres a brief but excellent one in 'Year of the Dragon' with Mickey Rourke. And lets not forget 'The Terminator'

The Red Circle shootout in the first John Wick is excellent too.

Agreed, am sure I could think of some more too!

The Batman isn't underlit. Most movie auditoriums just have shitty systems.

I can agree with a good portion of @slide_99 's list. Size eight women beating the crap out of 6ft 4 henchmen who are build like brick outhouses. The use of modern pop music in historic settings ( Peaky Blinders I'm looking at you). And I agree that a lot of modern movies are very darkly lit, it's like watching a movie with sunglasses on sometimes. Arrival being a particularly bad example

One thing I love about older films in general, is they weren't afraid to show character flaws and weaknesses.

Now it feels like every character has to be on the same footing and have the same capabilities, regardless of experience or training

Amen. Especially I’ve noticed with female characters like Rey in Star Wars, great pains have been taken to remove any hints of weaknesses and sexuality to make her the perfect, strong, and unbelievable two-dimensional character.

I guess you must not like OHMSS, then. Or any kung fu movies from the seventies.

3D animation movies, with 2D animation not being given a chance anymore in film. It’s all about the merchandise rights, and how much the toy companies can make. There’s a statement made by John Lasseter that said that 2D animation has gotten a bad rep for bad storytelling. When he was head of Walt Disney Animation, I believe that he could have done more too put more 2D animated movies out. The two times they did try it in the last decade and a half (The Princess and the Frog and Winnie The Pooh 2011), they set up to fail, going against two of the biggest movies of all time (Avatar and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2). I guess he was too busy focused on Cars sequels and merchandise and hugging and making women uncomfortable to work at Pixar.

Another excellent choice. Hand-drawn, 2D art style for animation and cartoons and pictures is so much more appealing and endearing to me. I really miss getting those, but at least there is a terrific backlog of Disney classics.

Yes!! It makes me angry that Disney--a company that owes its existence to 2D animation--has turned its back on the form. It can't even be bothered to release the original Mickey Mouse cartoons and Silly Symphonies on Blu-Ray. I don't see why this mega-rich behemoth of a company can't create 3D and 2D animation. Excellent as the latter has become, there are still areas where 2D simply has more warmth, spark, and vitality. I have yet to see 3D animation where human beings don't look like plastic action figures in motion. You'd think Disney could free up some money to respect its own traditions and history.

I know, and every spring I try to watch one of the classic movies for fun. Just wish that Walt Disney animation studios would try to make a few 2D major theatrical movies for their own brand that they started with. The idea of another Cars 4 (which has been openly talked about) without John Lasseter (the man who appeared to be pushing it), is actually sad and nausea inducing. Thank you @Revelator for hitting the nail on the head. Pixar I get for 3D animation: that’s how they started. But not mainstream Disney Animation Studios.

Having seen (and enjoyed) Operation Mincemeat last week, I've decided I'm tired of seeing wartime London in films and it's time we saw wartime somewhere else.

There’s definitely a distinct lack of nudity and real sexual feeling in modern mainstream films unfortunately. The reasons why are obvious.

Yes I'm all for more nudity in movies. It shouldn't be exclusive to pornos.

Robert Eggers seems to be the last one carrying the torch these days! Bless him for his uncompromising visions!

    CGI

I don't have a general distaste of CGI, because when it's good, you won't even notice it's there. My issue is when action is dominated via CGI - hence, my distaste for most superhero films anymore. It makes movements look very cartoonish and rubbery and takes me out of all the excitement and chaos, knowing none of it's really happening on screen.

Yes, the second one. They also made a musical which plays (played ?) in London recently.

Based on Ben Macintyre's book - the chap who plays Ian Fleming is quite the hottie, might make a good Bond:

Gotta take the bad with the good. My tastes aren't necessarily someone else's. So I say let's err on the side of permissivity.
