Paul Greengrass has confirmed his next project as director: News Of the World.
News Of the World is based on the best-selling novel by Paulette Jiles, set in the days following the Civil War. It charts the unlikely friendship between Captain Jefferson Kyle Kidd, an earlier precursor to today’s newscasters, and the 10-year-old girl he is tasked with bringing to her relatives.
Tom Hanks is also onboard the project, and will portray the lead character (Captain Kidd), marking his 6th film where he is a Captain - Apollo 13, Saving Private Ryan, Captain Phillips, Sully and Greyhound being the others.
Shaft should have true grit about it. This sort of style works for Ride Along.
I hope the film is closer in style to the 2000 film, which imo had a nice balance between the SHAFT grit and comedic elements. An underrated film I think.

Just be glad the role is not played by a white dude, it would reopen the Bond is Black discussion again. ;)
They should've just called it Shaft's Ride Along.

The cast is getting ever-so stronger for the upcoming spy thriller Wasp Network.

Actually, I'm not crazy about the title SHAFT for this film. Considering it's a continuation of the series and not an outright remake, as was the last film.
Got me to thinking, that is no different than every new Bond film being called DR NO, or the next Indiana Jones film also being called INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL.
I accept the idea of going lighter with a film series (for example, Bond!) though this new Shaft film looks perhaps a bit too funny and lighthearted. Maybe it's too sudden a shift in tone.
A struggling musician realizes he's the only person on Earth who can remember The Beatles.

His 2 biggest hits of the 2010's: Men In Black 3 ($624 million world wide) and Suicide Squad ($746 million world wide).
So it's a british remake of Jean-Philippe, then ?
