Last year December, to celebrate the upcoming new year, we did a big ranking competition on jamesbond.nl. We asked every voter to put themselves in the shoes of a movie journalist/critic and come up with their TOP 10 of Best Bond films. Then we added Eurovision-style points to each individual TOP 10 ranking. In the end 340 Bond fans (and other movie lovers), both Dutch and foreign, sent in their TOP 10's. This was the eventual final result ;-):

By the way, do we think now that classic 1960's Bond films will now forever loose from some of the Craig-era Bond films? Making this proof that the older the Bond films get, the more they loose their place in our collective consciousness?

Assuming it’s a list of own personal favourites rather than some attempt at producing an objective list of what I consider ‘most worthy’ then my list would probably change from day to day but be something close to this
    1 Moonraker
2 The Spy Who Loved Me
    3 GoldenEye
    4 Live And Let Die
    5 The Living Daylights
    6 Tomorrow Never Dies
    7 Die Another Day
8 The World Is Not Enough
9 On Her Majesty's Secret Service
    10 You Only Live Twice
    11 Goldfinger
    12 Skyfall
13 The Man With The Golden Gun
    14 Octopussy
    15 A View To A Kill
    16 For Your Eyes Only
    17 Dr.No
    18 Casino Royale
    19 Diamonds Are Forever
    20 Spectre
    21 Thunderball
    22 From Russia With Love
    23 Quantum Of Solace
    24 Licence To Kill

No such thing as a bad Bond film in my cage but I do struggle with LTK. Otherwise I enjoy watching all the films, but the higher up on my list the more likely I am to enjoy the film anytime, lower down the list I find I have to be ‘in the mood’ for watching it.

That list is interesting in that I can usually find some themes or hooks in most people's. Very difficult to pin you down.

Highly Pro Brosnan and quite Pro Moore. All Brosnan entries are in the top 8. In addition, perhaps the most “serious” entries - QOS, FRWL, and LTK are at the bottom. I picked this out right away bc it’s quite opposite to mine 😄. Nothing wrong with these though!

@Junglist_1985 @Birdleson Thanks for being diplomatic! ☺️ I’m well aware I’m a bit of a ‘one of a kind’ in my choices so I was hoping I wasn’t going to get a roasting!

Yes I do struggle with, as you say, the ‘serious’ ones - I have to be in the mood for those. I pretty much like the ‘over the top’ Bonds, with big villains and world-dominating plots, so Roger’s are always favourites as is YOLT and GF. And I suppose Brosnan’s were on the whole ‘of that style’ - I just feel he has a ‘little bit of everything’ I like in my Bond.

I really do love DN as well, 17th isn’t really reflective of that, but pretty much anything 1-17 is a great night in front of the telly in my cage, 18-24 I have to be ‘in the mood’ for those particular films to watch them.

I suppose TLD is a bit of an anomaly at 5, but I really love that movie, something about its mood, Dalton’s refreshingly different Bond, and the fact that the film has just enough traces of the Moore legacy left over, really appeals to me. Plus I absolutely love the soundtrack, and was a bit of an a-ha fan!

@barryt007 I can relate to that. While its iconicness still keeps it somewhere between 12 and 15 for me, I do find it massively overrated compared to other entries that I find much more enjoyable.

Great to see some variety! I can definitely see the appeal of those movies if you want to sit back and enjoy yourself without thinking too much. Personally I love Octopussy and it looks set to be #2 on my list. I'm tempted to rank it as number #1 as well but I can't in good conscience rank it over Dalton's compelling performance in TLD

First time posting my rankings on the site, and will certainly revisit upon No Time to Die’s arrival.

Biggest movers from my usual ever-slightly-shifting rankings? The Living Daylights fell dramatically and landed well out of the Top 10, and Die Another Day vaulted forward out of its usual last place-ish position.

And to be clear, I like nearly all of the films to some degree. Except Diamonds Are Forever.

TLD might come back up someday! It used to be my favorite of the lot when I was a kid. Dalton is wonderful in it and the first half is great. But as soon as Bond and Kara end up in Afghanistan, the action and intrigue grinds to a halt for me and it never really recovers.

And as for the curveballs: I love how unusual TMWTGG is. It’s an odd (and certainly flawed) take on the formula.

And Goldfinger is great until they get to Goldfinger’s farm... and then it loses a lot of its allure for me and never really ropes me back in. Similar to TLD in that way.

Interesting list, especially the curveballs at 5 and 17 as it doesn't seem to match the rest of the list.

    What happened with TLD? :(

Sorry to hear about TLD - a lot of people feel that way unfortunately. I feel the finale is a breath of fresh air compared to the usual "infiltrating a villain's" lair.

What I find interesting is how you have TMWTGG so high but LALD and DAF so low, each of them have their own quirkiness factor
