I love how it's a character driven trailer. I am so fascinated by why Bond thinks Madeleine betrayed him. Their relationship I am getting more and more intrigued by.

Yes, it looks rather like Madeline is the most pivotal character in it, which I rather like.

It looks like Bond is getting interrogated by Safin (he's on his knees).

No, they're both kneeling in front of a low Japanese table. As Safin wears a (Dr!) Noh mask it seems he's either obsessed by Japanese culture or is actually Japanese somehow (garden of death ahoy? :D ).

It's been 2 hours and I'm only now starting to come down from the high.

What a perfect trailer. What an amazing looking and sounding Bond film. It's exactly what I didn't even hope enough that it could be and this look alone surpasses all my expectations.

I have never felt more confident in a film after seeing a first trailer. Bring on April as fast as possible -- and we don't even know who's doing the song yet! ;)

I just saw a fun comment from someone saying they're excited because " James Bond is going to be in the new Aston Martin film!"

Prince Charles is the new 007.
  • The footage from the Cuban party scene looks especially intriguing.

Someone shines a spotlight on Bond and all the other guests begin to back away from him and clap.

Paloma looks scared/worried as the spotlight moves onto her.

Then something appears to get sprayed on the other guests and they begin to collapse/flee.

Yeah I did think that bit looked perhaps a bit reminiscent of Bond being revealed at the Spectre meeting in, er, Spectre.

If I had to criticise I'd say it does hit a few familiar beats.

  • That trailer was fantastic! This is Christmas morning for Bond fans, as Pierce2Daniel said. I am even more excited than before, if that’s possible. Just a few thoughts:

--So good to see Felix. I love the lighting in the club scenes.

--Nice to have OFFICIAL confirmation (as if we didn’t already know) that the man in the mask on the lake is Safin.

--The bike jump and the jump off the bridge look so much more stunning on film than they did in the BTS footage.

--I found it interesting that Bond said, “So you’re a double-oh” to Nomi. No specific mention of her being 007. Is this intentional?

--Could Ana De Armas possibly be more beautiful? No? That’s what I thought.

--The cinematography is gorgeous. I love the use of color, especially after the digital grading and washed-out look of Spectre. Great to see scenes that aren’t graded through a urine filter. Much closer to Roger Deakins’s work on SF.

--I love Blofeld but I hope he doesn’t end up being the main villain here. Malek is perfect as a #1 Bond baddie and I hope he stays that way throughout.

--Finally, I love the fact that Madeleine is figured so prominently here. Maybe others will disagree but I thought she was the highlight of SP and I think it’s wonderful (and utterly groundbreaking) that we have a Bond lady back for a second film, and with such a stake in the plot.
  • This definitely hits some Spectre beats that I am not comfortable with or happy about, but I'm not necessarily pessimistic either. It's a trailer. But the Madeleine angle I'm not a fan of (whether it ends up being true betrayal or not). Ditto some of the other "delving into Bond's psyche" stuff, ditto the "Bond's past" stuff.

Everything else? Stunning. Sandgren shot the Hell out of this, and there's a clear energy here from Fukunaga that I think Mendes lacked as he fell asleep at the wheel during the filming of Spectre. Particularly, even the glimpses of the action that we've seen here move in a way Spectre's don't (the train fight / PTS notwithstanding).

I am assuming the multiple visual refs to Skyfall are not just coincidences:

    PTS with motorbike chase
    Jumping off the bridge
    Stuck under the ice
    Tunnel/sewer scenes

To me there were a lot of visual cues that made me think of SF.

I'm getting a sense that there are going to be some controversial plot elements in this which divide people the way SPECTRE did.

But that's fine. I'd rather a tremendous Bond film wrapped around bold, fresh story choices than a predictable experience wrapped around something with no teeth.

I'm surprised no one has brought up Safin's intriguing statement to Bond.

"James Bond. License to Kill. History of violence. I could be speaking to my own reflection - only your skills die with your body. Mine will survive long after I'm gone."

    Interesting.

Well if she is 007 he wouldn't know her number: why would she have told him? He's presumably just figuring out her status from how she's acting or something she's said about having a licence to kill or something. None of them introduce themselves by saying "Hi, I'm 007" :)

Yes me too. I love how key to the entire thing she seems to be.

Interesting stuff! I love how he's done loads of press stuff for this: does this happen for other films when they release a trailer? They've certainly made this An Event, unlike for other movies. Interviews, posters, stills- it's quite a push.

I think this also. When Brofield says the "secret will kill him" he's probably talking to Swan. I'm thinking ...

    Interesting.

    A Reddit user believes that
    Malek/Safin cloned himself

I hope the "License to Kill... My own reflection" comments don't mean he used to be a 00 or something.

    Very.

Brilliant trailer, and I'm quite impressed with the footage. And it's worth noting that this is in no way a teaser trailer, but a full-length one. The teaser they had ready months ago was presumably scrapped, which is a shame.

There seems to be a sense of finality with this film as it appears to be a culmination of everything (in a good way). Safin looks like an incredible villain.

Also, kudos to the writers for a basing a very intriguing plotline on a brief and vague story Madeleine told Bond on the train in SP. The fact that we see her opening the box with the mask is all that we need to essentially confirm the frozen lake scene is from Madeleine's childhood.

The film will likely divide fans, especially those who weren't fond of SP. Hopefully the film is well-made enough for those to see past all of that.

Blimey. That's one Hell of a trailer. All manner of goosebumps.

    Some initial thoughts:

    - Craig looks fantastic. Weathered but still an incredibly formidible presence. There's an intensity here that looks far beyond the more relaxed, jovial interpretations in Skyfall and SPECTRE. I'm very here for that.

    - I share the confusion with the apparent breadth of the Matera sequences. Theatrical Bond stories are far too linear to jump around with timelines etc., so the idea we'll cut to and from Matera seems somewhat unlikely.

    - The two chaps who abseil in through the window look rather strange. The one guy covered in green LEDs just after the explosion looks like something from Call of Duty.

    - I'm rather excited about Nomi. Lynch looks like an absolute scene-stealer, and I can already imagine all manner of wry and exasperated glances from Bond as he comes to realise she makes for a strong partner.

    - The riff on the "Bond............ James Bond" line is an absolute hoot. Seeing Bond so indignant that he's not treated with reverence is delicious.

    - A little perplexed at Madeleine's appearence at HMP Wakefield. The fact she's in the company of or escorted in by Nomi would suggest she's employed by the prison or MI6. Bond clearly didn't realise she'd be there, so it's unlikely he drafted her in to interrogate Blofeld. However, I'm very excited about what they've done with both her character, and more broadly her relatioship with both Bond and the drive of the main narrative. To me, Seydoux looks more comfortable here than she did in SPECTRE, and I think the film will be stronger for having her return.

    - Blofeld. I was struck by Waltz looking far less coiffed, and I feel his character is the better for it. That he's aware of anything in Madeleine's past is interesting, especially that he did not divulge as such in SPECTRE.

    - Intrigued by the broken mask, obviously seen worn by Safin towards the end of the trailer. Its appearence clearly has a profound affect on Madeleine.

    - I'm fascinated about the club/party scene. Looks from the microsecond of footage people are falling around Bond, with what looks like a mist in the air. Poison? Although both he and Paloma seem to fare OK. There's a shot of her checking what looks like bodies further in. Ana De Armas looks radiant. I do hope a performer of her calibre is given something interesting to do. She was beating heart of Knives Out, and the film was far better for her involvement.

    - The *extremely* Ken Adam-esque lair sections, comprising of the chamber Bond and Safin converse in, combined with the somewhat Liparus-resembling hangar with the light rods and red hazmat suits. Pure Bondian set design. Cracking job, Mark!

    - Safin. I'm pretty amazed how much we saw of him, considering the lengths both the production and cast went to to ensure nothing of his character was seen or leaked. The monologue is a little Silva-y, but of course that's a minute representation of him. His voice and the way he carries himself is very unnerving. He's simultaneously frail and frightening.

    More generally:

    - PRAISE BE! We have a cinematographer who has leapt at the chance to infuse a Bond film with some close and medium close ups. Linus looks to have done a *spectacular* job here, and if this trailer is representative of the final DI grade, I'll be very happy. It looks far more naturalistic than the somewhat Instagram-filtered SPECTRE.

    - Mark Tildesley, you look like you've really understood what Bond production design is all about. Whilst there are notable execptions (Skyfall lodge, for example), I found Dennis Gassner's designs a little too cold and clinical, and lacking in the vast 3D depth that made the Ken Adam designs so mesmerising to watch. The angular, Japanese inspired room in which Bond and Safin sit looks absolutely beautiful.

    - A couple of real great, funny lines. Very reassured Phoebe Waller-Bridge has her mark all over this.

I really hope the second trailer doesn't reveal all that much more. I echo the broad sentiments on here that there was a LOT shown to us, and I think many of us were expecting something far more barebones and minimalist. I'm guessing they held back in August to get a little more footage in, and I guess particuarly that of Ana De Armas, consdering the praise she's receving for Knives Out.

One extremely happy Bond fan here.

Gave it a shot, not really impressed, sadly. Seems to be even more of that brooding, personal angle, lots of "secrets from the past" being dug up, etc. I hope I'm wrong and the film blows me away.
I had a similar feeling after watching it as well @Creasy47.

I'm also a little concerned about Lashana Lynch's Nomi throwing major shade at Bond in her scenes. "The world's moved on, Commander Bond." Groan!! "Stay in your lane. You get in my way, I will put a bullet in your leg." This personal conflict nonsense could get tired pretty damned quick if it's continually played that way throughout the movie. And any bets that at 0:27 when M says "Where's 007" we get to see Nomi immediately after in an establishing shot and not Bond, despite the trailer cutting to Craig in Jamaica to try and hoodwink us? The production design and cinematography looks great, as does the direction. The Aston Martin looks fun. And I'm happy about Ana de Armas in her scenes. I'm just not sure about the subtext and the inclusion of identity politics yet.

How are people who don’t like SP feeling? It certainly seems to be leaning on SP.

    I wrote my opinion before.
We knew for a while that the movie will be a continuation from SP so..that's kinda bad so AT BEST I feel like this can be liek the 10th or so Bond movie

At least those were/are my expectations.

Based on the trailer I feel like they did the best they can based on the circumstances (continaution of SP, new director, many people writing the script)

So...even if the movie will suck...at least visually it will be good

And the story seems better than I expected it's obvious they tried to make the best they can and not just half ass it

My props go to the team...based off the trailer of course

Yeah I'm sure you're right. Especially how the romantic fire walk and scene in bed, arrival at the hotel etc. have got to be beforehand, surely? Which would make for an incredibly long PTS if it involves those, the car chase, bike action, fight scene, bridge jump... plus we know there were even more scenes shot there. But equally Bond has got to be in action in the PTS and it's hard to imagine what could happen to him before this as he's not 007 any more... it's a puzzler.
    - I'm rather excited about Nomi. Lynch looks like an absolute scene-stealer, and I can already imagine all manner of wry and exasperated glances from Bond as he comes to realise she makes for a strong partner.

It's nice to know the safari suit is in the movie! :)

    Yes, that's a wonderful joke. :)

It might even be more Tadao Ando than Adam, keeping with Safin's Japanese theme.

I feel like the club scene will steal the show.

I love club scenes they are a cinematographer dream come it seems, and seeing as we have an Oscar winning DoP...

I expect that scene to be the best scene in the movie!

God damn Linus is the MVP of this movie, I can say that already

    Also...

What do you think about the gunbarrel?

We'll see a classic gunbarrel as always, right?
