Absolutely fantastic game! Definitely recommend playing the expansions if you haven’t.
They really do. I've always held out hope for a sequel or something to Alan Wake. Brilliant game.
No spoilers, but Control is definitely connected to the Alan Wake universe.
The PS Plus edition is the new Ultimate Edition, and includes the two dlc’s. Will start those shortly, have some side missions to complete.
This has been sat on my shelf since its release 2 years ago. I bought it as a blind buy, and since then, have read little about it. So I decided to jump right in, and try it. I am on my second playthrough. My first ended, were as my last surviving crewmember aboard the HMS Victory, I entered a corridoor right as its structural integrity gave out, and I was enjected into deep space. Nelson would not have been proud.
2nd attempt is going well, so far *touch wood*. I have been putting into use tactics that I developed first time around, such as using not one, but two turrets, in my Tractor Beam room. One on each level is eneough to take care of any intruders trying to piggy back on any debris that I am beaming aboard. The turret on the lower level, I have also possitioned to aim down two of the ducts leading away from the room, just in case of any intuders trying to move from room to room via the ducts.
Well damn, that's even more enticing now.
I love F.E.A.R! I continue to play all titles in the series on my PC. I love the story, the action and the horror. Such a powerful series! Arguably my favourite games ever, apart from Max Payne, that is.
I finished it yesterday evening and really enjoyed it. Some moments and areas don't really fit my preferences, but all in all, it was a damn good time.
Doing my three hour speedrun/spend less than 10,000 Lei/knife only playthrough now, just got to the castle in under 20 minutes so I should be good to go. Anyone attempting to try this, definitely go with the karambit (buy it before you finish your first playthrough, make your NG+ save at the Main Menu, reload the last save, buy it off the Duke, beat the boss, make a new save and you'll start your next playthrough with it).
Good luck. That sort of thing is beyond my capability.
I'm thinking I'm going to try a combined RE7/8 playthrough soon. The two really flow well together.
I'm nearly up to the first main boss battle now. The daughters (and enemies as a whole thus far) and ridiculously easy to cut through with the Karambit. It's surprising.
My original playthrough petered out, so I restarted from scratch. The combat is a little janky, but damn I love the oppresive, dank, off-kilter, atmosphere in this game. I get the impression that I am coming towards the end, as I have just been given the final (?) gun, the ol' Chicargo Typewriter, and I have no idea how this will end.
Sackboy is great. Not getting along with Battlefield 5. It feels like the aiming is really off. Can line up a shot perfectly and miss.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Online
I remember there being more griefer present when I played this before. Returning to the online part of the game lately, it's a much more leisurely game. Still could do with some more missions though. And does fast travel really need to be somethign you have to pay for?
Oh yeah, the way Rockstar is insanely stingy and cheap with the online is what keeps me away from it.
It boils down to Grind or spend real world money to buy in game gold. It's pay-to-win, more or less. If you don't buy the gold packs, then you are at the mercy of Wallet Warriors. I can't imagine spending £70 for 350 gold bars! The only money I have spent, is the price to buy the game. This might explain why I don't play it for long sessions, but short bursts. It still needs more content, and better payout or cheaper prices (I wouldn't hold my breath on these though).
Which is pathetic, given how monumentally successful (and pricy) the game is. I can accept that garbage in a FtP/PtW type game, but not something like this. I played RDR2O for a bit and while it was fun, that was mostly because I ran solo missions to rank up and go for trophies. Once I touched the PVP portions or engaged with other players, I realized how toxic it all was.
I'm starting to feel the same way. Looking at the games I am playing, most of them are singleplayer. And i've been messed around by people on line, as if a little courtesy is too expensive.
I have meaning to ask you, @Creasy47, did you get around to trying Sniper Ghost Warriror Contracts? We've talked about Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 in the past, but I can't remember if we've talked about 'Contracts'. The next one in the series is out next month, and it continues in a similar vein by the looks on it, but one advancement is the draw distance before markers disapear, 1000+m. Which is more than twice that of the previous game, that topped out at around 500m.
In my short-lived time on RDR2O, and in one of the rare moments I actually entered a town, I recall getting infinitely lassoed by another player. Couldn't fight back, couldn't do anything to retaliate, just simply let it happen until he got bored enough. That's a good way to instantly kill all interest I have in the game's online portion.
And no, I haven't yet, sadly! I saw the sequel was already coming, so I've been slacking for way too long. I should pick it up during the next sale, I'm sure it's a blast. The new one looks pretty fun, particularly those longer range battles and assassinations.
Contacts is different to 3, but in a good way. There isn't a large map, with smaller areas where the missions take place, as in 3. Instead, the areas where each mission take place are much bigger than in 3, but not as big as the overal map where the missions were in 3. The only issue I had with Contracts, was the draw distance. Given that Contracts 2 looks to be building on it's predecessor, I think there's going to be some eyewatering kills. 1000+m, oh lawd.
That sounds like a good change to me, leaving the levels a bit more fleshed out instead of a rather scarce open world.
RETURN TO CASTLE WOLFENSTEIN
Twenty years ago, I spent months playing this fantastic game, which was incredibly modern at the time. I remember that after years of playing Wolfenstein 3D and Duke Nukem 3D on my old PC, this new release, which came with a brand new PC as well, rocked my world. Those were the awesome days of Max Payne,
Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, GTA Vice City and many more wonderful video gaming achievements. RTCW was definitely on heavy rotation.
WWII games are my thing. Call Of Duty and its direct sequel would become my absolute favourite WWII shooters. They put the gamer in real-life conflicts. RTCW, by contrast, blends WWII with occult fantasy and hints of horror, not unlike what Lucas and Spielberg did with Raiders Of The Lost Ark and The Last Crusade. And there's something about that that I truly enjoy, something that clicks.
But games grow 'old' (i.e. incompatible) too, unfortunately. (I can't play Bloodstone or Quantum Of Solace anymore unless I start dual booting my system, which I'm not a fan of.) But a cheap purchase of RTCW off STEAM, along with a nice patch, has now allowed me to not only play the old game again for the first time in about a decade and a half, but thanks to the patch it fits my larger widescreen perfectly and the resolution of the game remains surprisingly high. In other words, it felt like coming home after a long odyssey. And I was amazed by how much of the game I still remembered like the back of my hand. An old game, but somehow still fresh and as cool now as it was two decades ago.
A nostalgic 5/5!
Train Sim World
Still not moved onto TSW2, one thing I have learned from DoveTailGames, is not to jump in too early. A number of routes went on sale recently, so I snapped up the Tees Valley route. I have only have a quick go, played the tutorial, but I love the sound on that Class 37. What a rumble.
