    My prediction is that it will be very well received by critics and the general movie-going public but will be extremely divisive amongst life long Bond fans.

    Welcome to the forums! This is the exact assessment I have too, as do others. It seems like it's a hit with critics but fans are going to be sorely, wildly divided.
  • I was expecting (maybe hoping?) that it would be the opposite, not as well received as Skyfall but a much more unanimously than enjoyed film among the hardcore Bond fans. Seems like the first part of my prediction is true, but the second part might not. Overall though it looks like it has a pretty good reception regardless, even if it will probably settle in the middle of Craig’s movies.

    When I see comments like “Cubby would have never done this” I dunno what to tell you. The guy has been dead for nearly 30 years. We know for a fact that he shot down the Bond Begins pitch in 1986, because he believed audiences wouldn’t have accepted seeing a novice Bond. We know he would have not cast Craig just on height alone, as he once dismissed Burt Reynolds as a potential Bond just because he was “a shrimp”. And yet on both points his children proved him wrong. This is not Cubby’s show anymore. It hasn’t been since 1989. And it may be over for MGW as well after this.
  • They’ve certainly taken the most gambles and departures with series tradition with the Craig era, for better or worse. I think a lot of those certainly payed off, not the least of which is Craig himself. Though I can’t say I’m not hoping for a return to safe, traditional ground for the next Bond era; but then again, I’ve never been much of a gambler.

    Without knowing the specifics about NTTD, I agree. Cubby gave us Bond in space. And succeeded.

    Same with this era. For better or worse, whether one likes it or not, they've done well in keeping Bond in the public eye.

    I think I saw a spoiler in one of the threads regarding the PTS and I’m giddy about it. Not too thrilled about the rest of what I’m hearing though.. It sounds like it’s maybe worse or on par with DAD and forgettable? Sheesh.

    It looked to me like Craig shot new footage, I don't believe it was the SPECTRE gunbarrel footage. The overall gunbarrel itself is VERY different particularly in how it ends, the most atypical one of the series with the exception of Casino Royale's, and even then it's a close call.

    I know it's frustrating that he never got a full on traditional gunbarrel, but this is arguably the closest one. It at least opens onto the scene and is better than all three of the gunbarrels from Quantum through SPECTRE.

    I think it's somewhat fitting that Craig never has a "traditional" gun barrel

    That's where I'm at, too. At least they were consistent about that.

    I think it’s funny Craig never had a “traditional” gun barrel.

    If I did one of these films, I would have just used the ones from FRWL and GF where instead of the iris opening the white dots get smaller until we cut to the PTS.

    Ok, now I’m not *too* letdown, based on your description of it. I’m always looking forward to this aspect of a Bond film, so it’ll be cool to see how it plays out…. especially after a 6 year wait!

    Breaking some most requested things down:
    SOME LOCATIONS AND ORDER OF APPEARANCE INSIDE.
    Gunbarrel
    very unusual, new music, beginning, walk, barrel design ánd ending. Does opendirectly into the film, no pretentious text.
    PTS
    Norway-Matera, Flashback ánd current day, nice transition, wonderfully shot, recognisable music.
    TITLE SEQUENCE
    Might just be my favourite Kleinman so far. There's a nod to Bond of years gone by in the very first effect, the symbolism is beautiful,
    Eilish' song works great and the way it is edited gives the song even more impact. Purely wonderful.
    "Act 1"
    Jamaica, and Cuba, both well shot and with some plot twists already. A few nice easter eggs, some jokes, some intrigue.
    ACT 2
    London-Norway. Again, some great footage, definite Waller-Bridge dialogue, lóts of exposition, with in my opinion some weird written interaction between some characters. Some of the same establishing shots are a nice touch,
    action sequence shorter than I expected, but satisfying.
    Act 3:
    Faroe Islands-London. Finale keeps building up, Bond and Nomi are a good team, again some unexpected twists thanks to the trailers deliberately mismatching dialogue and footage. Villains lair finale is very well done and beautifully shot, and the last scene of the film is a nice book-end to the opening.

    Anything else, feel free to ask. Seen it twice now, going for my third take in approx. 2,5 hours😁

    Watched NTTD two hours ago.
    The PTS is once more a highlight. The movie has some beautiful shots. Craig does a great job. Ana de Armas is amazing.
    Safin should get more screen time, imo.
  • Won’t see it here in the states until sometime in October or later. Wonder if anyone who saw it thinks it’s Craig’s best. I know most consider CR to be his holy grail even though personally I thought SF was his best.

    I'm braving rocky ground with this forum right now but my friend Clayton Davis who writes for Variety thinks NTTD is the best of Craig's run.

    Went to the midnight showing. The film did not seem long at all. The cinematography was gorgeous. I really enjoyed it and the while cast was amazing.

    Is it basically Dark Knight Rises, right with all its messiness relative to the previous high bar (in this case CR and SF)? yes. Firmly in the middle of the pack there of the Craig era.

    Did I still love it? Yes. It's everything I wanted it to be not just from when I walked out of Spectre, but when I saw my first big screen Bond which was - yes - QoS. This and SP being the films where Bond goes after the bastards.

    Was it worth the however many miles away I am for full 1.43 IMAX? YES.

    As people have said it's emotional, it wears its heart and inspirations very much on its sleeve - almost to a fault - it also is the real "let's throw everything and the kitchen sink at Craig" film - it mixes so much tonally but somehow all works out in the end. And did not drag at all....

    It's certainly Crsig's most dynamic role, in that he has a lot to do and say. It's definitely not Craig's best, although, I'd say he comes off like a combination of Moore and Brosnan but with Craigisms.
