What's that instrumental Oasis song that opens Standing On the Shoulders of Giants, the one that was used in the climax of Snatch? That almost sounds like a rejected Bond theme of sorts without the lyrics.

Fuckin in the Bushes. Great track. They used sampling from the Isle of Wight 1970 festival documentary in the tune too.

There's also I'm Outta Time from their last album which has a very Bondian melody. Would've suited the mood of the Craig films very well.

I'd probably explode with excitement if they did a Bond theme, I'm almost as a big fan of them as I am of Bond. They'd have to get back together first obviously.

Me too pal. I'm Outta Time is a great song, probably the best one on that last album.

Craig wasn't really Bond, he was the guy who tried to be Bond and then died. NTTD's ending renders the whole point of the CR reboot pointless. It started off by stating, "This is how Bond became Bond," but now it's, "Here's why this particular version of Bond is tragic and has to sacrifice himself for family."

Trust me, you are investing way more intellectual energy in this analysis than the CNB idiots from way back when. They wouldn't have been capable of producing a fair statement. It was all about dragging Craig's face through MS Paint and then poking fun at the abomination thus "created". Saying that they are now proven right implies that they ever had a point in the first place. And believe me, that was not the case.

That said, I also disagree with your statement. Craig really was Bond. You just can't get over the fact that one iteration of Bond can die and now you're trying to retroactively reason your way out of the conundrum. The logic is nevertheless simple: everything that has a beginning has an end. CR was the first "Bond Begins" ever shown on film, and NTTD is the first "Bond Ends" ever shown on film. I cannot see what CNB and their low-IQ output have to do with this. Those morons couldn't even type full sentences. It was all, "Craig isn't Bond cuz he ugly." Hm... Are you sure you want to lower your standards that dramatically, @slide_99?

Watching NTTD last time made me truly appreciate how much I'm going to miss Daniel's Bond, he's really elevated what the character is. He's been my favourite Bond

I'm glad that Bond was back to being more brutal in this film, it suits Daniel much more than being light hearted. His funniest moments are either his reactions (like to the bionic eye) or his dry delivery of a comeback instead of a Moore style quips

Talking Heads could have done a cracking Bond theme, I think, say if they had wanted to dig into the weirdness of some of those middle Moore films rather than going down the ballad route.

Bitter Taste by Billy Idol sounds like a Craig era Bond tune. Has the lyrics "there's a million ways to die.. "

I think the Blofeld character will be retired indefinitely. It was a deliberate choice in LALD to not bring him back (the rights wouldn’t become an issue until TSWLM was being made). It’s better they put him aside for awhile when bringing up a new Bond. Only use Blofeld again if there’s ever a strong hook. Hopefully better than what they did with SP.
The changes Saltzman and Cubby made for LALD were to distinguish Moore's first Bond outing from Connery's by not saddling him with the same comparable baggage. But as you pointed out, when it came to their third Bond movie, they were both willing to bring Blofeld back. That's not the same as retiring the character indefinitely.

As many other posters have demonstrated, the writers can easily bring back SPECTRE without necessarily bringing back Blofeld for future Bond movies.

Given the complaints of Bond only sleeping with one woman, do you guys realize who’s the only other Bond to only sleep with one woman in a film?
Yeah, Sean never beds Plenty O'Toole in Diamonds, does he?
Did you miss this moment between Sean and Tiffany in DAF? And he was trying to bed Plenty O'Toole until he got rudely interrupted.

...unless there’s ever a series of streaming movie adaptations faithful to the novels, but that’s a whole other thing).

I don't think EON will go for this, but since Amazon now has partial ownership I've been wondering the same thing myself. Again, I don't think it'll ever happen, but it might be interesting to see some well-made period streaming movies set in the 1950s and 1960s. The problem is that this might dilute the brand. Bond has for so long been a series of event movies, and so expanding into streaming might have considerable risks.

I don’t think it’ll ever happen either. Just saying that’s the only way I can imagine seeing Vesper, or any character unique to those novels returning again. Aside from recurring characters like Felix or Mathis, unique characters like Tracy, Dr. No, Goldfinger, should never make a reappearance. I think that’s why EON created Madeleine, as they felt a new character made more sense for Craig whereas if they had brought back Tracy we’d be constantly anticipating a bullet hitting her head.

Yes, that is a good point. And of course Madeleine's back story is a bit similar to Tracy's...

Certainly an intentional nod to Tracy, but probably as far as they were willing to go. Instead of a broken woman who’s suicidal, it’s a therapist trying to escape her dreary upbringing.

Yes, Madeleine's much more of a modern woman. And this comes from someone who reveres the Tracy character.

In SP I find Madeleine's feisty/angry scenes to be her best (not unlike Tracy)--particularly after the snow chase. And then she's great/vulnerable in L'Americain.

If they had given her more feistiness/defiance at the Morocco base, either in the meteorite scene or when Bond is being tortured, her character would have made more of an impression in that film.

Madeleine just seems so passive/along for the ride throughout this section (compare, say, Honey), and of course, she gets kidnapped--yawn.

It's like the writers forgot about her character at this point. If they had kept better track of her, when she leaves Bond before the climax, it would have had more impact.

I have expressed my view about the arc of Madeleine/Bond. However I do agree with you about Spectre from the Meteorite Base onwards.

Lea gave an interview in French in mid 18 where she said the atmosphere was very different on set this time and has twice mentioned the change of director without being denigrating. At a modular level what goes on between them as actors is great but the plotting and direction of their development from that point on lacks real force and momentum its because that final third of the film does not have the relentless focus of the ending of the other four and especially this one. We come back to London again its vaguely camp in parts and its homage making and bringing the family in is distracting. all of that takes away from Madeleine/Bond and her jeopardy should have been played out much better.

If I strung everything together that Chris, Lea and Daniel have said all three were unhappy with what happened in that last third and Cary who brought Chris and Lea back and Daniel wanted them back gave them a chance to put that right. Chris nails Blofeld psychopathic jealousy of Bond in NTTD. here is this supplicant having the love and admiration of his partners daughter and he ruins there chances that is riddled with power for me and Chris gets to communicate that.

@bondsum that still leaves only one woman he slept with. He didn’t even have a chance to take his clothes off before Plenty went for a dive.

As for the CraigNotBond clowns, their problem has always been that they never even gave Craig a chance. They were slagging off him and his film before a single frame of film had been shot. So no, they were never “proven right”. They were proven wrong the moment unanimous praise for him, his film, and the high box office receipts came for CR.

It’s funny they lasted for 15 years, but I guess it became a place of sanctuary for the Craig haters after CR was a hit. I used to visit their forums along with @jetsetwilly because it was fun to try to debate the merits, at least with those that were sensible enough to agree to disagree (and there weren’t many). But by the time SF came out I largely left the place behind because it became utterly miserable with the likes of the site owner DirtyBenny and his homophobic rants. Now that Craig’s run is done, their site’s mission statement is now completely obsolete. It would be like if someone made a BrosnanNotBond and tried keeping it around in the late 2000s. What’s the point? The expiration date is now past.

Sure, but not for his lack of trying. The original scene in the Bridal Suite plays a lot longer and is a lot more racier, but the scene of Tiffany and Bond together in a passionate embrace ends with Tiffany asking Bond: "Where do I pick-up the diamonds?" as she nuzzles his ear in bed. Bond replies: "When was the last time you visited a circus?" It then cuts to the Circus Circus casino show, leaving their final deed to the imagination like all Bond movies do.

It's funny how DAF is now being used as a quality yardstick when it's continually been confined to the bottom of most forum member's rankings. Most odd.

Here's another one for you: Which 60's Bond movie is the only one Connery never smoked a cigarette in?

“But” doesn’t make up for the lack of coitus @bondsum ;)

Not sure what your point about the bridal suite with Tiffany Case is. That he slept with her? That’s pretty obvious after Connery’s “hearty breakfast” comment.

Is it? I’m just mocking the idea of people using Bond’s number of conquests AS a quality yardstick. People knock NTTD film for having only one, and yet we saw it happen in CR, a film highly rated even by those slagging NTTD for featuring one conquest.

Anyway, at least nobody has so far tried to claim that maybe Connery Bond slept with Marie after choking her with her own bikini top.

You know I'm such a bad Bond fan. I've never stayed until the very end of the credits. I can't. The song is too much for me in the context, lol. I know it's there.

I have tissues in my handbag but just couldn't be bothered and yeah they're super soft :D. I'm just an emotional person I suppose. It doesn't bother me really. Each to their own.

Not necessarily - we could get the next best thing and have Liam do a solo track for a Bond theme. I've really enjoyed his recent solo efforts and look forward to his next album!

Okay? Tiffany is ONE woman, so how does that contradict the earlier comments? And there is a mile of difference between wanting/trying to bed someone and actually bedding them. So, no, I didn't "miss" anything. Did you?

The cloned sons of famed supersoldier, and their resulting identity issues.

As if Kojima wasn't already secretly cackling about his favourite franchise pulling plot elements from his love letter to said franchise.

I no longer know what this conversation is about, nor do I care. I was just providing visual evidence of Bond sleeping with Tiffany in DAF. If it was you who was doubting that, then there's your answer. If it wasn't, why the ornery attitude?
