Tolerance for people who rank CR and FRWL at the bottom?
some people like a nice well cooked steak - while others prefer a cheeseburger and fries... Some people like Metallica, some like Nickelback... I don't think it really matters where one ranks each film on their own personal scale..... if someone ranks DAD as their #1, and CR at #24 - fine.. it's not like i take it some personal offense to it.... i might think they are a bit off their rocker lol, but it is what it is..
I think hardly any of us have a complete ranking set in stone anyway. It usually fluctuates depending on mood and recent viewings.
thats kind of my view on things as well...
to me, the only Bond movies that are set in stone are my top 2, and my bottom 2 - the other 22 in between those can fluctuate - because in all honesty, there is really only 1 Bond film i dislike... the rest i enjoy... there might be times when DAF or AVTAK get more rotation than others (and those are two Bond films I don't regard as being "exceptional") - but like you said, it depends on my mood, and at times, i am in the mood for more of the fluff than something serious...
I always felt that the robbery angle was a bit Goldfinger in Die Hard with a Vengeance. And the brother angle was a bit like what they were originally planning for Diamonds Are Forever - the villain was going to be Goldfinger's brother. And the Simon Says shtick is pure Dirty Harry.
Quite agree. I think there's a little influence GF in DHWAV and a little nod to it when one of Simon Gruber's cronies comes out with the quote "Knock off Fort Knox?". A great little nod to GF.
No, he hasn't. He took responsibility for the wind surfing scene and admitted he got that wrong. Probably wishful thinking on my part.
Has any of you encountered anyone else here you agree 100% with about everything?
(If you have a double account, you may be wise to not answer.)
Never. But it's always good to know the personal reasons of each fan to elect its own ranking. In the last 24 years, I've constantly changed my ranking, and only on last year that I've finally chosen my favorite movie (by the avatar, you may have a clue).
Btw, few hours ago I saw this ranking, and I agreed with mostly of the arguments;
Certainly. And I'd argue that the only film to really do this is probably FRWL.
CR and OHMSS could be up there too, but I think everyone can agree on Connery to an extent greater than they can with Craig or Lazenby.
Maybe Craig is more controversial on forums like this and by Fleming purists. But this is <1% of the general population.
For the average cinema goer (the 99%), Craig has mostly widespread appeal.
Has anyone encountered anyone here they disagree with about everything?
Yes. I mean no.
Women's preferences aren't homogenous. No one will please everyone.
If anything, polarization is more attractive. Doing what you're best at to the maximum will means some people dislike you, but it means the ones who do like you will love you even more intensely.
Hypothetically, I could see Craig getting a ton of matches on Tinder with that swimtrunks photo.
Incidentally I think Moonraker is a prime candidate for a film re-make. Such a great book, with such a half-hearted film. It's also one which would translate pretty well into the modern era.
Absolutely, and that's why I said it was a subset of women.
I think I was responding to the comment that generally Craig is viewed favourably among casual viewers, and I agree, but I thought it relevant enough to include this perceived group of casual viewers that would not view Craig favourably. Maybe not, and if not, I apologize.
As for consensus, sure you could probably say 90+% of Bond fans hold FRWL, GF, and CR in high regard and 99.9% who became fans during the 90s consider GE of tantamount importance to 007's legacy, have perfected their Boris Grishenko impression, and can handily beat the N64 game on 00 Agent with auto-aim off and on Donkey Kong mode. Still, not every Bond fan is aboard the FRWL train (so to speak) and not even every Bond fan who came out of the '90s could tell you what a N64 is.
What matters is that there truly is something for everyone (or none of us would have become fans in the first place) and that variety both gives the series legs and keeps discussions among fans lively.
I always love your lists. It's usually like "Oh yeah, this guy knows what's up, he's--hang on, what? Oh Jesus Christ he's mad." :)) With SP at #1 and CR at #25 myself, I can appreciate an offbeat perspective!
Long time lurker, first time caller.
I haven't seen anyone's film ranking on here that I agree 100% with and I think it's extremely unlikely that I ever will. There are now 25 Bond films so, mathematically, there are 15,511,210,043,330,985,984,000,000 (15 septillion) different possible permutations of Bond film ranking.
(If we include NSNA, that goes up to 403 septillion!)
Haha indeed :))
I think the more eclectic your taste, the less likely it is to find someone who agrees with you on most things, let alone everything.
