    Gotta lover her…

“We’re not a factory,” Barbara Broccoli noted. “Our movies are all hand-made. We’ve always been a family business and it will remain a family business, so long as we keep breathing.”

God bless her. I'd rather have a few excellent movies than a ton of mediocre TV shows.

I hope she stands her ground on this.

Kathleen Kennedy and Kevin Feige should take some notes, both in the TV and movie areas.

Well they're both proof that their respective fanbases are content with consuming endless amounts of bland gruel.

Us Bond fans prefer our caviar. ;)

The philosophy is great, I'm just not crazy about a lot of the decisions they've made under her reign.
  • I wonder generally, what the split is between BB and MGW is in terms of these decisions.

I can't imagine MGW likes melodramatic Bond more than the Connery-Brosnan era.

    60/40 in favor of Barbara?

I have no real clue and nothing tangible, but that would be about my guess.

He co-wrote Licence To Kill: which is all about the drama, and this-one's-personal stylings. Plus his plan for Bond 15 was to do a 007 origin story.

Hmm. Well I hope he got it out of his system, because as much as I like CR-NTTD, that's enough of that.

I want more of a random killing machine, less of a personal statement.

MGW turned Blofeld into Brofeld, so I wish he'd sat SP out, tbh...

How about we go back to Rambo Brosnan. Tank, double machine guns and all.

You're joking, but I'd be fine with that.

    Only half-joking :D

I’m a big Brosnan fan and don’t mind that style at all. I think it helps make his era unique. And my favorite Bond scene ever is the tank.

Man, I generally like reading The Guardian, but everything I've ever seen from them on Bond is just bad. This actually isn't a bad idea for an article, but it just seems like the editor didn't care at all.
John Banville, the revered Irish literary novelist with his own crime-writing twin under the pseudonym Benjamin Black, hadn’t seen the film, but was surprised to learn of Bond’s apparent demise.
What? Then why the hell is he the first person you bring up here??

Edit: I mean for heaven's sake.
So now 007 is part of the youth insurgency: she’ll be young, perhaps mixed race, definitely gender fluid and she’ll focus on the things that matter most: the climate and ecological emergency and how to wrest from the chaos that’s coming a future she’ll be happy – even proud – to leave to her kids.
That could run on a parody website and you wouldn't need to change a word.

It would have made more sense to ask Sebastian Faulks, Jeffery Deaver, William Boyd, and Anthony Horowitz where they'd take the film version of Bond next. You know, people who have actual knowledge on writing Bond stories.

But no. Guardian asked a bunch of numpties who think they should make a James Bond movie without James Bond.

    Typical Guardian article.

Before we talk about charm, talent and looks, we now have to consider whether an actor identifies as a kitchen appliance.

Yeah, the last gentleman seems to at least have any idea what he is talking about. I don’t like the idea of going full Codename theory and don’t think they’ll ever go there, but the very last thing of just ignoring it all together is genuinely how I think it will go. Possibly something in the vein of „That never happened to the other fella“ but I think they will just get on with it just like Moore, Dalton and Brosnan did.

To be honest I've never considered any other possibility. Another reboot in some form I think is equally as likely as a new 007 kicking off in media res, but this continuity is over with, Bond will be back next time.

Haha, that article is hilarious. Florence Pugh is Mathilde Bond in Snowball in Hell.

“So now 007 is part of the youth insurgency: she’ll be young, perhaps mixed race, definitely gender fluid and she’ll focus on the things that matter most: the climate and ecological emergency" To the sound of Ghostbusters 2016 Box Office!

That's the decision Doctor Who took and see how its worked out for them?

Don’t read it if you haven’t, would be my recommendation. I wish I hadn’t. It will only irritate you unnecessarily, and I’m getting too old to get myself riled over such unlikely silliness. It is true that some on here really seem to enjoy a perpetual state of irritation. If you are one of those, then have at it.

I just skimmed it because I don't think there's any point in speculation that Bond won't be in the next movie or it will carry on from where NTTD left off: it just won't.

I am generaly curious: How many of you actually expected this 'to be it' for James Bond? When I hear about fans anxiously waiting through the end credits for confirmation that 'James Bond will return', it honestly baffles me a little. Did anyone seriously expect that EON would say, 'this is it! We're not interested in doing this highly financially benifitial family business anymore'?

The ending shook me (although I had partly guessed what would happen in advance), but at no point did I contemplate the idea that there would be no more Bond films after this one.

James Bond is too big to die altogether I think. It has evolved and will continue to evolve to places hardcore fans may not like, but the brand pulls in so much money it’s hard to imagine ever just stopping. The “James Bond Will Return” tag at NTTD was awesome, and the part that best points out Bond is bigger than DC, much as I loved his Bond.

No, not at all. I never thought they would say "this is it".
I did however expect them to announce something like an official hiatus if he did end up dying. Barbara Broccoli sometimes talks about the future a bit like that (“People always ask, ‘Oh, who’s the next James Bond?’ It’s like asking a bride as she’s going up to the altar who’s her next husband going to be. I don’t really want to think about who is going to be the next person until I absolutely have to.”), so I really thought they would officially say: We'll take a break, let the dust settle on Craig, Michael G. Wilson retires and we figure out a new leadership structure at EON, we'll wait for the Amazon-MGM thing to settle, so we know who our partners there are going to be, maybe work on a couple other projects and when we feel like our heads are a bit clearer then we will start thinking about what Bond is going to be in the future and who we are going to hire for the script, direction and the role.
It seems like that isn't happening and the wheels for Bond 26 are already starting to move.

I didn't think it would be "it" for Bond but after witnessing that ending I needed some reassurance. It was almost like a comfort blanket I guess but I have never been more nervous waiting for the end of the credits

It was understandable that they left it till the end, but cruel as those few minutes were anxious
