  • I rated Goldfinger #9 and Diamonds #7. The former certainly set a high bar for Bond themes and soundtracks in general, but Diamonds is a much more sophisticated and timeless theme.

I had GF at #14, which is probably too low, but I was expecting it to do well, but I do prefer DAF as a song from Shirley!

I have 3 of them left in my Top 6. YKMN went out at #22, I find that song not particularly outstanding as a Rock song, least of all as a Bond title song. But it seems the majority would disagree.

4/6 for me yet! Will John Barry pull off a 1st and 2nd finish?
  • It's great to see Diamonds score as high as it did. It's my favorite of Bassey's. Despite Harry's stuffy reservations, I find it a very elegant and classy song.

Four of my Top 5 are still in the running. All of the remaining songs.

DAF and GF are fantastic songs, and among my favorites of the Bond films. I didn't make a ranking, but if I did, I think they would have ranked higher.

Aided by Shirley Bassey's impeccable, expressive vocals, DAF's mood deftly moves between mystery, playful seduction, lyrical beauty and frenzied darkness. The song makes you pay attention right from the start, whether you are listening to the film version with the striking opening brass stab, or the original album version with the intriguing low-key intro. The arrangement is exquisite, too, from the tinkly opening electronic organ, evocative of the glitter of diamonds, to the gorgeous strings of the B-section, to the busy percussion with guitar in the second half of the song, to the powerful rising brass in the last part.

Goldfinger offers such delightful musical flamboyance that one can't help but enjoy it. It is so dramatic, in such a heightened way, that it creates a wonderful sense of fun over hearing such an intense overflow of emotion. My favorite touches are the phrases played on wah-wah trumpets, those moments where the beat of the song dies down before starting again, and the explosive last thirty seconds.

All right folks, we’re getting there. Top 5 time is around the corner, but first our honourable mention, at number 6:

    YOU KNOW MY NAME
    From Casino Royale
    Performed by CHRIS CORNELL.

    51027vGLJUL.jpg

Only just missing out on the top 5, Chris Cornell’s YKMN, only the second title song after ATH not to feature the title in the lyrics, received two silver medals.

Four 4th places, one 5th place, three 6th places, one 7th place, two eighth places and two tenth places were also noted. That’s a very respectable total of 14 top 10’s.

Only one member has this one outside his/her top 20, giving it its lowest finish: a single 22nd place.

YKMN received 142 points in total.

#10 for me. Chris Cornell was an inspired choice and unsurprisingly, he penned lyrics that are amongst the best in the Bond theme canon.
A modern classic in every way - it’s thrilling, catchy and has your heart pumping when played over the marvelous title sequence.

    I wasn’t a fan at first. I don’t know why.
But it’s now in my top ten. It came in at #7 for me, it’s a wonderful song, and a great addition to the World of Bond themes.
As @R1s1ngs0n said, a modern classic.
I couldn’t have put it better.

I was never a worshipper of this rocker. It's a rough song, a bit shouty at times, and the guitar 'scratches' (whatever the technical term for that is) rather annoy the hell out of me. But I think it plays well over the entire opening of CR, which is a fast sequence of punches and blows. It makes sense to blast open the drums, guitars and Arnold's (?) orchestra while we're still processing the awesomeness that just played out in front of us. So the song is definitely adequate and functional. I just don't consider the song itself, in isolation, remarkably better than, say, DAF, GF or MR.

#5 for me. It gets your blood pumping for the film, and goes great with the title sequence. Great lyrics too.

#10, though it could’ve been even closer to the top. One of the coolest songs in the series that instantly gets me in the mood for what’s to come. I want more rocking entries like this, I’ve had enough of the somber ballads.

Totally agree! # 4 on my list! And coupled with Kleinmans excellent titles sequence, as been said, it really got you pumped for whats to come!
  • An excellent, hard-hitting song. A perfect reimagining of what a Bond title song could be to launch the Craig era.
  • YKMN also lines up as 6th place on my list! Great, modern-era track- Wish we got another good rock song in Craig's era.

I'm glad to see so much love for this one. And as you say, @Mathis1, you couple the energy of the song with that absolutely beautiful and simple-yet-inventive title sequence by Kleinman and you've got a real winner on your hands.

Ok folks, time for our number 5:

    YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE
    From You Only Live Twice
    Performed by NANCY SINATRA.

    nancy-sinatra-you-only-live-twice-1967-32.jpg

Our first top 5 entry obtained two gold medals, five silvers and one bronze. There were also two 5th places, two 6th places, one 7th, one 8th and one 9th place to be noted.

At the other end of the spectrum, one member gave it a bottom 5 spot: a 23rd place. This was both its lowest ranking, as well as the only one outside the top 20.

In total YOLT’s title song obtained 154 points.

I ranked YOLT at #5, however, every higher placement is totally understandable. It is the perfect Bond song (despite I prefer some other songs a bit more, personally.
I expected it would end with a medal!?
