There’s a lot of weird timeline logistics going on, but the conceit is that everyone gets to have a happier ending.
  • No Way Home had its flaws but I had a great time watching it. The audience was really into it the whole time.

It’s massive but not that unexpected given the characters involved and the crazy hype surrounding the trailers. People were starving for a big Marvel event kind of film and they showed up. In the US alone it will likely cross $700M.

There were three other Marvel films released this year that got nowhere close to what Spidey made in ONE weekend. If anything it shows how phase 4 of the MCU has been a big disappointment. The irony is that Sony, not Disney will be reaping most of the benefits of NWH’s success.

Lol yeah because Shang Chi or some never known before Eternal dudes are popular just like Spider-Man… the most famous and beloved superhero in the world… in a film designed as a greatest hits of 20 years of Spidey films… NWH is the first Marvel Cinematic event since Endgame, not some regular Marvel filler.

Exactly. Not all MCU titles are equal.

BLACK WIDOW was never going to get a sequel because it was a farewell to a character (and really a movie we should have gotten in like 2016/2017, to be honest).

SHANG CHI did about as well as ANT-MAN and DOCTOR STRANGE, so a sequel is pretty much guaranteed.

ETERNALS is the one that I'll be surprised if Marvel moves forward with. Not only was its reception lukewarm, but it's also the most self-contained title in the franchise. There's seemingly nothing substantial set up here that needs to be addressed in future films.

Hawkeye Season 1 Finale Daft light hearted fun in the end, and implausible on occasion. When you weigh up the six episodes there really is not much of a plot.

The brief lift scene was probably the highlight, there is a good dynamic between these two characters. I guess they will both show up in a movie together.

The Big bad was totally off, not sure what was going on there. Pretty much ruined the character.

After NWH and now this, I feel pretty pulled back into the MCU. I haven't watched any of the TV shows they put out since Endgame, but I know all the takeaways for the most part; excited to see this phase develop.

I have only watched one episode of What IF! (the Peggy Carter episode) though after watching that trailer I feel compelled to watch the Dr Strange episode.

Actually, good point, the What If stuff does look cool. The Ultron part looks interesting as well.

Kristian Harloff mentioned there are two What IF! Episodes worth watching in relation to the new Dr Strange film. I am on leave for a week on Friday I may as well watch the whole series to get extra context.

Would you consider watching WandaVision? Imo it's the best Marvel D+ show and is a companion piece with NWH in that it's the first time the MCU sets up the Multiverse aka the Westview incident Strange refers to in the Dictor Strange trailer.

Yes, I just watched it and it was fine, but nothing really landed for me. It was just kind of okay. The finale action scene(s) didn't enormously excite me, I didn't really care all that much about the characters' stories... it was just sort of fine. Even Hawkeye himself gave off a bit of an air of not being hugely interested in the whole thing.

I thought that Florence Pugh showed again that she's head and shoulders above everyone else in these films: you can't take your eyes off her because she's so talented. And very beautiful as well of course. But I just ended up wanting the series to have been about her instead.

I haven't finished What If still, but the Dr Strange one was the one where it really came alive for me: that's a good half hour of telly. The Peggy Carter one felt extremely pointless, but I did enjoy the Strange one a lot.

I have not bothered with Black Widow though seeing Florence briefly in this and being excellent I will give Black Widow a go.

Black Widow was decent enough I thought: the weird thing is they give Natasha a family, and all of the new family members are more charismatic than Scarlet Johansen! :D

That's not difficult Scarlett is a bit one note in all her films lol Scarlett literally plays the same character over and over again.

I added that to my watch list a couple of days ago, noticed it was available on Disney +

I finally found a video clip that best describes her acting, namely in facial expressions.

  • Scarlett Johansson is indeed excellent in Jojo Rabbit. That one's a real tearjerker. She has an understated acting persona, but I can't recall a film where I thought her acting detracted from the scenes she was in.

LOL I do like Scarlett though Lost in Translation is her default performance setting. Scarlett does appear to smile more in interviews. Lol

Eternals just dropped on Disney+, I have just watched it and I have to say I think it was good. There is a lot going on and constantly had me thinking throughout, I will definitely watch it again. Some truly epic moments. Looked fantastic in IMAX Enhanced.

Arguably the deepest and most thoughtful MCU movie by some distance, there is a certain scene in the film that totally got me locked in that had me going wow.

    Great science fiction movie.

“BuT whaT ABOut iTs WoKE POliTICs???“

One thing this movie disproves is that Disney doesn’t pay off critics for good reviews for a high rotten tomatoes percentage.

That all said, I thought it was fine. Reminded me a lot about the structure of WATCHMEN. I admire it had a tone separate from the usual Marvel fare. It’s not throwing you a million zingers.

I do feel because of the large cast that the characters aren’t as developed as they could have been. This probably would have worked better as a D+ series.

For a long time I was confused about whether it was a series, or a film.

Eternals is not without its issues its slow to start with though the ideas are there, as a Sci Fan I liked it. I enjoyed the ending and the films scale at times was impressive.

Yes I thought it was a D+ series when I first saw the (baffling) trailer.

I couldn't even get into the Eternals as a comic book, I guess there is a niche fanbase for everything. I haven't seen it yet, but if it's on Disney+ then maybe when I'm bored and there is nothing else I'll check it out.

Trying to get through THE ETERNALS, man does this thing suck. Several years back Marvel went through a (surprising to me) "can't miss" phase in terms of my own enjoyment, pretty much beginnings with CIVIL WAR (before that it was up and down). Yet, everything since INFINITY WAR has been a disappointment to a degree, pretty much on a downward skid (not entirely, the latest Spider-Man was several cuts above this mess, but still left me flat).
