Looking forward to seeing this one, but we'll see if bigger equals better.

Interestingly, Trevorrow says this one takes influence from Bourne and Bond:

Never would have thought the worlds of Jurassic Park and James Bond would cross over, stylistically anyway, but you can already see some of that influence in the trailers.

This is the same damn talking point J.J. Abrams used when propping up Khan as the Joker of the Star Trek franchise for INTO DARKNESS.

    JUST.

    STOP.

I assume you can avoid watching all the sequels by just watching the first one multiple times

    Trailer 2

    It shows a lot.

It really has become quite ridiculous at this point though should be a fun ride.

I have seen a few reactions to the film, one stated its very far removed from the original at this point. I am still looking forward to it though, I still watch the so called bad films in the series.

The press reviews are in now and it definitely sounds like one to catch on streaming!
  • I'm hearing a lot of reviews mentioning that it's all about the spectacle and there's no real story. I'm not sure just how to take that because the same could easily be said of the last two Jurassic World films. I know these movies aren't Spielberg. I enjoy them anyway because they do deliver majorly on the spectacle...with a great helping of nostalgia besides. If it's a bit closer in quality to Jurassic World than Fallen Kingdom then I'll no doubt have a good time. Of course, there's also the possibility it may be closer in quality to Jurassic Park III...

Guess I'll find out soon enough!

It's frickin dinosaurs eating people. What sort of story is expected?

Well, yes, I agree, lol. There are some semblances of deeper storylines along the way: Hammond coming to terms with his failed ambitions and Grant warming up to kids in the first Jurassic Park vs. Owen bonding with his raptors and Claire learning to put family over work in the first Jurassic World. Arguably the non-dinosaurs-eating-people storylines in Jurassic Park were more compelling than those in Jurassic World. But I agree with you. I watch the Jurassic World movies for the spectacle, not the storylines.
  • I just hope it’s better than Fallen Kingdom. X_X
  • Fallen Kingdom had its moments. Everything on the island was fantastic. But putting the whole second half of the movie in a big spooky house was not the best idea and that dinosaur auction was more ridiculous than talking raptors with feathers.

Fallen Kingdom turned into another film genre midway through, despite watching it several times the last act is a blur to me. I wonder if they will continue the human cloning subplot in the new film.

It sounds like this one is about a Bond villain trying to destroy the world with locusts (not even dinosaurs!!), when surely this should be a film about the world now being populated with dinos?
Sounds like they couldn’t think of a way to use the concept so just put a baddie in.

My early hopes were we would be getting Planet of the Apes type film, Conquest of the Planet of the Dinasaurs and the advent of a new Triassic age.

I'm excited about this movie, and the reviews don't really affect that. I've seen more than one that suggest it's the best in the franchise since the original, but then they give the movie a middling rating. Fine with me!

This, pretty much. I don't know if people were weeping in the cinema aisle as John Hammond told his flea circus story, or if tissues were required when Dr Grant overcame his mild aversion to children, but at the end of the day, these are monster movies, and all five have delivered brilliantly in that respect. My favorites are actually JPIII, which absolutely killed it in terms of setpieces and humor, and Jurassic World, which really has its cake and eats it in the way it satirizes itself so thoroughly while still delivering the goods.

Just came back from watching Dominion. Probably just me but I felt that whole chase scene in Malta had some Daniel Craig Bond vibes to it. Those scenes were clearly inspired by the QoS, Skyfall and NTTD chase scenes.

I quite like the third film, myself. I think the last one was a bit of a dud in the back half and I've not been too impressed by the trailers to the newest one, but I liked all of the sequels otherwise.
  • I'll admit I've developed somewhat of a nostalgic appreciation for JPIII. Sam Neill likes it too: https://www.denofgeek.com/movies/sam-neill-jurassic-park-iii-better-than-people-say/

I think, as Neill suggests, the film would have been better received if it had had a proper climax. As it is, things just kind of peter out. After the river scene, the raptors show up, they hand over the eggs, and they all call it a day. The film really is missing a climax. But it does have some terrific scenes, like the first time the raptors show up and the aviary scene.

I really like JPIII, and completely agree that the ending was weak.

It also doesn’t have a moral message: the first film is at least about something, 3 is just a monster movie. But I agree that it’s a lot of fun and much pacier and fresher than Lost World, which annoyed me a bit as it felt like Spielberg’s heart wasn’t in it to me. Probably only the glass cracking and the cornfield felt like he was invested.

Good god that was a fun movie. It'll probably be even more fun the second time, knowing where it's all going. And the guy who played Dodgson should be poached for an almost identical Bond villain.

I hope the "we got Dodgson here" remix plays during the end credits.

Truly awful film from an awful director and awful set of writers. Gutted how the world trilogy has been handled. Was nice seeing Neil, Dern and Goldblum share screentime again but that's about it.

    Agreed, wasn't really blown away.

I wonder if Colin Trevorrow bringing the original 3 back was his way of giving Star Wars the middle finger for firing him.
