For a film franchise that was shooting for a $1 billion take with NTTD (and probably would have done so minus Covid challenges), it’s really frustrating and disheartening to see them drop the ball on 4k. And I’ll say the same for the 60th Anniversary…. It’s been a rather big yawn.

Yeah like what this guy says
  • The 40th and 50th were very memorable experiences, the 60th has a lot to live up to. But with no new Bond news for the foreseeable future - it’s underwhelming.

Those anniversaries were accompanied by a movie set for release in the fall season.

Maybe they should have pushed back NTTD by a year.

Not as underwhelming as the 30th anniversary was.

Excellent point. During that year - 1992 - the entire future of the Bond series was open to question and it had already been three years since LTK had under performed in the US.

The one good thing we got was that 2-disc CD with the collected themes and, for the first time, the rarities like the TB music that didn't make the soundtrack, alternate songs and radio spots, which were fantastic finds in those pre-Internet days.

Ironically I think we are in the same cross roads as Barbara and Michael don't know what to doing anymore with the series and are only doing so because they are obligated. I mean they literally killed the golden goose off. I say someone else take over the franchise like Greg Wilson. I mean Daniel was Barbara's only boyfriend and now they can't move on.

Haha lol 🤣 😂 just keeping the British end up sir (more like American). I mean when they say 007 it could mean anyone now whether it's bond or someone else entirely it's terrific 😄. I'm done I promise 😀. I was just having a bit of fun. We have gone way off topic.

The 25th anniversary was celebrated five years earlier. No need to overdo these things.

We had that album ‘The Best of Bond 30th Anniversary Collection’. And MGM Home Video released the 6 Sean Connery Bond films on VHS, which I think is only comparable to what we’re getting this year with that selection of steelbook releases on standard Blu-ray.

Bond fans have accustomed themselves to expect something special this time each decade because we had a new film in 2002 and 2012.

Will we celebrate both the 70th and the 75th anniversaries in 2032 & 2037, or just one of those do you think?

    I feel like just the 75th but that's a good question?🤔

The Connery films had already been out for years; the only real difference was they used the US poster art and some had covers that opened with more photos and information about the films. They claimed they were remastered, but appeared the same as the previous MGM releases.

Also in 1992 MGM/UA Home video re-released the Bonds up through TLD on VHS with brand new, digitally remastered transfers. Newly remastered audios as well. Some of these tapes , TB and DAF noticably changed some of the audio effects from the original films.

Being a wee 2 year old I had no memory if it was good or not :)) , but that’s a good point! Technically Dalton was still Bond, but 3 years on and no new film.
As others mentioned I do remember (vaguely) VHS releases in later years.

I’m in the UK. Prior to 1992, the Bond films were issued by Warner Home Video, as they were in many other European countries. When the new VHS releases came out, issued by MGM Home Video, they were promoted as being re-mastered. If they were different masters to the ones that came out under Warner in the 1980s, it wasn’t false advertising.

The following year, 1993, MGM Home Video released the Roger Moore films to commemorate the 20th anniversary of his tenure. The year after that, Tim Dalton’s films were released. OHMSS was missed out.

In the fall of 1995, the entire collection was re-packaged and released again (by MGM) to promote GoldenEye. Although only the first 8 titles were released at that time, the rest followed in May 1996 when GoldenEye hit the rental shops.

I was only 10 years old myself, so I didn’t experience the 10th and 20th anniversaries. I dare say nothing substantial happened on those occasions either, although the films were made only 2 years apart from each other in those days.

On the 20th anniversary (1982), the Bond films got their initial release on VHS.

It was a staggered release. Connery films in 1992. The Moore films in 1993 and Tim Dalton films in 1994. No release for OHMSS that time.

Maybe they will do a *small* celebration for the franchise on both of those occasions. Same again for the 80th anniversary, as there will only be 5 years between each other.

On 05 October MGM/Warner wil release Bluray steelbook editions (with screencap taken of maintitle as cover art) from 10 Bond movies: Dr No, TMWTGG, TSWLM, MR, OP, AVTAK, TLD, LTK, TMND, and Twine in The Netherlands. Price on this moment is 19,99 euro for each of them. Source: Bol.com

    Example LTK:

No picture yet from Moonraker and Twine one is very ugly and TMND use screencap from watch moment and looks great:

It look like that discs there going to be same as Warner re-release from Fox BD's (From 2013?) with 007 Gold on cover releases (Who i believe be re-release from 2006 Bluray discs)

No FYEO and Casino Royale yet, but i know from earlier Dutch/Belgium review of FYEO MGM/FOX with barcode 8712626090137 (Bluray starting with 871262609 are from Fox) http://www.dvdinfo.be/bespreking.php?id=9087 , that not al extra's include as MGM/FOX Bluray disc from 2006 (8712626039167) who take over all extra's from 2 disc UE. Later release from Warner with 5051888253588 as barcode having same front cover as 8712626090137, but is unknown by me or disc is not same as that Fox release, the 2006 disc or even disc from 50 years set (with new disc art, but same things as 2006 disc).

Moost also known that messing around with Casino Royale 2006 first disc besides that not include bonus disc too and from Die Another Day 2 disc SE R2NL (or UK) DVD stil is best edition of the movie.

They've already done steelbooks using the title sequences (and those were better looking), it's a shame they can't come up with something else.

I wouldn't have minded if these were the films to complete that set. But yeah, fairly underwhelming.

You're right, they didn't finish them. I didn't bother picking up most of them but one or two did catch my eye at the time that I had to pick up. Most of these aren't ones I'd really want to own for free, let alone spend $20 a piece for, especially when there are no visual upgrades whatsoever.

I picked up the Craig films in that set, as well as OHMSS and FRWL, but I'm wishing now I picked them all up.
