So many people get announced as making SW films; I'll believe it when I see it.
Mando felt a touch played out in the last series so they'll have to find a story.

What about the other projects that Lucasfilm announced? Rian Johnson's Trilogy, Patty Jenkins' Rouge Squadron, Taika Waititi's film, and even Lando? Lucasfilm needs to plan things out better before announcing them. Every Star Wars movie announcement has me excited for more!

We're seeing the inverse of Bond right now. Bond won't announce anything because you have to announce so early on a film project to get budgets rolling. Eon could announce a new movie, sure, but then they have to make it.

The Rey film is being helmed by self confessed activist with no feature film experience. She also loves to make men “ uncomfortable “.

Yep,that’s gonna bomb just as hard as The Marvels😆

That was in regards of a film about Pakistan men torturing women. Very classy of you to take a quote out of context.

Even his beloved YouTubers have managed to make that distinction, so it seems there is no hope for him if even they are able to separate the two.

What’s sad is that a multi billion dollar corporation giving a huge franchise ( Well,Star Wars used to be a huge franchise ) to an unqualified woman who has no background in visual fx,action,or even ONE feature film to her name to direct a STAR WARS movie.

But hey, she’s a woman, and she’s an activist, which checks all the boxes for Kathleen Kennedy.

Good to see she’s still using that panderstone😆

All directors were unqualified to take on a franchise before they took on a franchise.

What she might eventually produce may be a crock of utter crap, but it's unreasonable to write it off as a crock of utter crap before anything has even been shot.

Right. All three of the OT directors (George Lucas, Irvin Kershner, and Richard Marquand) were highly unusual people you wouldn’t have thought of taking on a space opera. Lucas even invited David Lynch of all people, who while having turned down ROTJ did catch the bug by taking on DUNE right after.

I think of all the directors that had the gig for the nine film saga, JJ Abrams was the only one who actually had extensive experience making big budget blockbusters, especially coming off of Star Trek. And he’s probably least favorite director of that group, to be honest.

I didn't even mind what Abrams did on his first go. It made sense to bring someone in with his sensibilities to riff on the familiar to provide a springboard. The issue is that by the final film of that trilogy, they lacked the balls to follow through on the new and interesting things. It gave the sequel trilogy a very jarring whiplash effect.

But that's besides the point. You're right. All of those guys (bar Lucas) hadn't really done anything before and didn't go on to do much of creative note afterwards, either.

It's very possible that this director could fit in with that group, and if you're a Star Wars fan then she's in good company. And that's regardless of her views or why she was hired.

Billy Dee Williams will be honored, Patty Jenkins will share some of her favorite films in April.

Every single Star Wars movie director made at least one feature film before doing one.

As bad as the sequel trilogy was,Abrams and Johnson were experienced directors.

Chinoy is only a diversity hire. She is not qualified ( I’d be surprised she’s even watched a Star Wars movie before ).

As much as a disaster that The Marvels turned out to be and Nina Decosta was a diversity hire in that,at least she had some feature experience

@AstonLotus ... You have absolutely ZERO idea why any director gets hired, so save your alt.right rubbish to Breitbart.

Chinoy has a number of features under her belt, too. I'm not sure what your point is here unless we're choosing to omit basic facts, in which case that's fine.

She has literally no experience making a big budget feature film.

That is also literally not what you said previously. If we're saying that someone has to have had experience directing a "big budget feature" as opposed to just directing a feature, then Empire and Return Of The Jedi would have had different directors. Pick a lane.

Internet articles rarely provide convincing arguments for anything. They are mostly someone's arguments repeated many times over, especially when it concerns a culture war. I am not impressed by a link to back something up in that regard.

Unknown or relatively unknown filmmakers always deserve a chance, especially when they won't be working on a major film in isolation. Also, not being able to show proof of success likewise means not being able to show proof of failure. As far as Kathleen Kennedy is concerned, she's in this business to make money, not to push an agenda. She's not going to allow random justice warriors to mess with SW unless she has confidence that they can pull a decent SW film together. She is not stupid; she knows that it's game over for SW and for her if she spends hundreds of millions on a political pamflet.

Furthermore, can we please box the negativity and send it to Nobody Cares town until we have actually seen a finished film? I just don't understand people who are getting nervous over something that hasn't even entered a serious stage of production yet.

We know what's going to happen, though. The trolls, troublemakers, bigots and "entitled fans" will come out and crap their first-world concerns all over YouTube. I honestly expect more from our members, though, lest we end up with more cases of haters who end up spamming every thread with their rants without having even seen the film, which in my opinion is a kind of behavior you cannot expect from anyone over twelve.

A name was dropped and within hours, we were told who this person is, why she was chosen, and especially what the guaranteed outcome will be. It will suck. Just like when Mister Mom was cast as Batman. Just like when a blonde actor was cast as James Bond. Just like when a woman was making Wonder Woman (imagine that!) Just like when that weird bearded hippy dude was making his crazy space film.

    So can we please relax...?

Over the course of my little illness, I binged the sublime Slow Horses, and followed that with a re-watch of the great Gary Oldman in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, and then, I messed it all up by watching Rebel Moon...

    It's bad.

The dialogue is putrid and the acting is half a level higher... BUT.... There was something so strangely sincere about the universe-building that Snyder threw himself into, that I couldn't help but admire.

I mean, nothing about the story works on any level, but the universe surrounding this paper thin tale (and all the terrible things that branched out from the story), does, somehow, have some life to it. It's very hard to explain, but it had these child-like details to everything, where I became engaged in everything but the story.

There's nothing unique or nuanced, but it slaps you in the face with all kinds of influences (of course, Star Wars being the biggest), and tangents, like a little kid's brain was hired, and the brain kept saying, "and then, and then there are space Nazis, and, and I like lightsabers so let's have that, and uhm, heroic warriors that look as if they came out of Ancient Rome.... ". Like a stream of consciousness from a six year old.

There seems to be more going on in the background paintings of this film, than the story proper.

It was a weird viewing experience... But, although I'm unable to properly describe my feelings, at the end of it all, I just couldn't help but admire Snyder's all in, never look back, approach. He just... goes for it....

That edit is spot on. The exposition dumps and the unnecessary epic music.

I have no interest in REBEL MOON. The trailer was enough to turn me off from it before any review dropped.
