With respect for her talent, Celine Dion doesn't seem an obvious choice for the next Bond.

Not sure how reliable that information is.

I wonder what other directors are on EONs list if Villeneuve is indeed unavailable.

Yep, looks like Villeneuve is out.

If Yann Demange really was one of Eon’s favourites for NTTD (he denied it at the time) then I imagine they’ll talk to him again now that he’s quit Blade. David MacKenzie was also in there, so he is another possibility. Thing is, it sounds like Eon are simply not ready to start making the next film, so we don’t know exactly when a prospective director needs to have a clear slate.

Not sure what to think about it. The sentence "there’s a new name circulating around town" doesn't sound very reliable to begin with.
Also apparently it's the only site who reports this.

Can’t say how reliable World of Reel is one way or the other. I know Berger was mentioned as being on some sort of list ages ago (again, can’t say how reliable that was).

He’s got a couple of thrillers coming out this year/in the future which may give a better indication of how he’d approach Bond. He is a good director though, although it’s tricky to say what he’d bring to Bond.

World of Reel is hit or miss as a source. They keep saying that the Rey Star Wars movie will film this year or not. Constantly rewriting the script. So if the usual big sources report on it, then there’s a chance it’s real.

We'll see what Conclave delivers. Fiennes is on that, maybe he is tipping BB's hand.

Wasn't Berger officially onboard to direct a new Bourne movie? I'm not sure he'll be doing both.

This newse seems to me to be a type of mention for this director to be taken into account because it says nothing about why Edward Berger's new name is circulating.

Nothing new here. The Edward Burger rumour was first "reported" by Jeff Sneider on 20 November, 2023.

Peter Straughan is the second writer and suggestion of me writing a Bond movie. He did The Debt directed by John Madden (who i have suggest as directer) with Jane Goldman (She wrote short ''James Bond Supports International Women's Day'' starring Daniel Craig and voice over from Judi Dench) , The Snowman (with actor who play Valdo in NTTD.) together with Hossein Amini (also on my wishlist) and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. Robert Harris is the first writer of Conclave who wrote Ghost Writer with Pierce Brosnan, Archangel with Daniel Craig and Enigma directed by Twine Directer Michael Apted.

I have zero knowledge, I haven’t even heard a peep on the following, and have no feelings outside of: get on with it, if this is true (and I pessimistically have doubts; but want to be wrong!!):

    https://www.worldofreel.com/blog/2024/7/2/sneider-seemingly-confirms-bondberger-intel

Supposedly they’re saying it’s between Berger and an unknown (as in name), female director (?).

    https://www.worldofreel.com/blog/2024/7/2/sneider-seemingly-confirms-bondberger-intel

Both Insneider guy and world of reel.

I hope they’re right, but will believe it when I see it.

I never thought of that, @MaxCasino … I kinda doubt it only because of the tremendous pressure and size of directing this, I’d assume it’s someone with some more experience directing bigger projects(?)?

But that’d be very cool if that was the case, 😂. I’d be very interested in that. If you’re right, Max, I owe you a beer, 😂!!

Maybe she'll be like John Glen, in the moving up regard. Also, I don't drink alcohol, but I'll take a Dr. Pepper!

She already kind of does, lol. Akin to Kevin Feige with the MCU. They basically cowrite and direct their series. Knowing her, Daniel Craig might direct, lol.

That's the joke. But I was half serious. "Unknown woman director" would fit her bio. Nobody could argue she couldn't take the director's chair exactly because of what you say. I'm serious now. She should just do it.

Reliable source says "no meetings" with any filmmakers yet. Careful wording there. Doesn't mean there isn't a shortlist of who to meet etc.

I will go more lowbrow and suggest Sam Hargrave, director of the two Extraction films. He has been a stuntman, stunt coordinator, actor and director. I love his visual style and his action sequences are second to none; they are innovative and thrilling.

I want the next Bond to be an exhilarating, adrenaline rush; he can deliver this and more. Action aside, I like the way he handles the quieter moments as well.

    The rebuttal:

“There have been calls made. The idea that there hasn’t been is very funny to me. Does Barbara just sit at home all day playing Candy Crush?”

Let's not forget that Bond himself is half Swiss. Swiss French sure, but, apart from the fact that Switzerland is a country where German is a dominant language, this shows that the character is deeply European. Fleming was German-speaking, spent a lot of time in his youth in Austria and Bond himself is supposed to have spent time in Germanic countries as a youth, learning skiing from Hannes Oberhauser. All this to say that Bond is more linked to Europe and Germanic countries than to the United States, for example.

Regarding Edward Berger, I mentioned him before and I think he is a very interesting choice: he is competent, has proven that he has a style of his own, while still being able to fit into the Hollywood system and without being as expensive to hire as Nolan or Villeneuve for example.

Berger Leads Next 007 Film Director Race?
By Garth FranklinTuesday, July 2nd 2024 4:52 pm

    MGM, EON, Universal Pictures
German-born filmmaker Edward Berger, who directed the multiple award-winning recent remake of “All Quiet on the Western Front,” has reportedly emerged as the current frontrunner to direct the next entry in the James Bond franchise.

World of Reel and Jeff Sneider are both reporting that he’s become the top choice, with the latter adding that “Animal Kingdom” helmer David Michod and “Venom: The Last Dance” director Kelly Marcel are also contenders.

Whomever takes the gig will establish the tone and style for whomever is selected as the new Bond following Daniel Craig’s retirement from the role. If it’s Marcel, it would make her the first female director to tackle a Bond film

Kelly Marcel is not directer of Venom 2 but one of the writers. I have seen Venom 2 last week and get idea there whant to make kind of QOS and X-men but failed a bit. Before i watched one of chacters looks on Naomi Harris, illustrations (Possible idea from Andy Serkis as left over from his time on lotr.) tells more about her and Carnage but missing some explanation how she get her powers.

David Michod Animal Kingdom i have seen 9 years a go. To long to remember.

Kelly Marcel would be a bit of an odd choice considering she’s only directed one film, but I like her as a writer (yes, even with 50 Shades, the first film of which has its share of competent storytelling).

It must be true. No one can make up that Kelly Marcel is a contender. ;)
