I'm still open to others believe it or not, just not that guy. There is a serious shortage of candidates, it seems.

I actually considered him back when I watched Shadow and Bone. I like him and wouldn’t be upset if he got the role, but he wasn’t the most charismatic actor in the show (though part of that is probably down to the character he was playing).

    There are some good names

    1. Richard Madden
    2. Sam Clafin
    3. Theo James
    4. Kit Harrington
    5. Aaron Taylor Johnson
    6. Nicholas Hoult

    Thats 6 so far

Yeah I'd need to see more of him; I'm not totally sold, but he was effective enough in Alien Romulus, if not someone I'm blown away by yet. He might not be good enough, or it might be a Daniel Craig in Tomb Raider situation: jury's out at the moment. But he ticks a lot of the right boxes and has a made a start at a film career.

I didn't even finish Alien Romulus, couldn't get into it, didn't even see the Xeno. There was too much chav accents for me.

As for Aiden Turner, I remember circa 2014 when he was suggested, he had that Dalton look and I was sold. Ten years later he looks older in the face but he still has that look. And as I've mentioned he's a dancer and he has fight choreography experience. I think he'd be greatly accepted over the younger contenders.

Amongst the big ears, boxer's noses, blocks of wood and beta boys that clutter up these pages, Aidan Turner seems like the only logical choice.

There are some good names MY COMMENTS ADDED

    1. Richard Madden COMMENT Watch The Take with him and Idris Elba, wherein Madden's character openly admits who's a real man, and it is not Madden's character. A demonstration. So, no.
    2. Sam Clafin COMMENT Handsome Nearly 40 and does not look it Know little otherwise
    3. Theo James COMMENT Handsome Know little otherwise
    4. Kit Harrington COMMENT Bond is supposed to be smart. KH, forevermore, will know nothing. Congrats on marrying Rose Leslie, though....Wow ! She'd make a great agent herself.
    6. Aaron Taylor Johnson COMMENT Listen to the pitch of his voice. So, no.
    7. Nicholas Hoult COMMENT Bond need not be classically handsome, no, but specific characteristics getting in the way are too distracting and contrary to a Bond's appearance.

Don't know much yet about Clafin or James but 4 of your 6, as John Pinette would have said, "Nay, nay"

    Henry Golding ?
I would say Idris Elba and film 2-3 movies at once, a la LOTR and others...

    He is already too old.

    Plus, Tom Bateman exists.

If there was only one logical choice, he'd be cast already and we would know about it.

Some of the names here will have to audition first. What a crazy time that will be if there's press leaks.

It will be interesting to see who is in the finalists going for the role.
When casting leaks get published in the press. Admittedly that's usually after the casting process, but sometimes we get news of auditions beforehand.
Of course all of this is a long long way off.

There seems to have been two finalists considered for Superman; I would think early in the process of casting there were several actors in the mix. News of screen tests surfaced when it was down to two candidates. I don't believe Hoult was ever considered for the title role; it's more likely that he was locked in as Luther and participated in the tests to gauge chemistry with the actors being tested.

A similar situation is likely for Bond, with leaks about actual screentests appearing when it's down to a couple, or few candidates.

You’re quite wrong about Hoult not being considered for the Superman role, he did test for it and got to wear the costume (he’s said he has pictures of himself as Superman); after losing out on the role Gunn still wanted to work with him, so he was offered Luthor.

Off topic, but I find Hoult too youthful looking for Luthor and not quite manly enough. Which makes me think he might not be right for Bond.

I think Hoult is already mature. But I think why people would forever see am as a boy is because he's got this sort of smaller head compared to the traditional lead man type. But I think he's already mature. I saw an Armani ad that he did. It's just an ad, but I think he composed himself very well in it, in Bondian fashion.

These poor actors being overanalyzed to death. Can anyone bring anything new to the role?! Maybe we're out of touch with the younger gen.

The analysis they’re getting here probably pales in comparison to the scrutiny they will receive during the casting process.

@talos7 yeah that's true. Not a dig at anyone, it's just funny how we are already too familiar with these guys.

I suspect the scrutiny they’d get from EON wouldn’t always be the same as we’ve given them here. I don’t think they’d completely write off a candidate because their voice is maybe a bit high pitched for example. Or if they’ve don’t necessarily have the quintessential ‘Fleming Bond look’ (whatever that is). They also have auditions where they can see how certain actors do in practice and can meet them even before that, so it’s a very different scrutiny.

I'd say EON knows what they need and that's what they'll look in a candidate. We fans judge a candidate for what we want.

I wonder if the screentest they use will still be the shirtless Bond entering the bedroom from FRWL. What Bond scene from the Craig era would be a good screentest?

The first meeting with Vesper perhaps? Or the poker game against Demetrios?

I'd go for the first meeting with Swan in SP (the questionnaire at the clinic that is). It's a simple scene but Bond has to convey a surprising amount of stuff.

And yeah, I believe auditions are comprised of the FRWL scene, a fight scene, and a scene from the actual movie they're doing.

Yeah I could see that. They used a draft of the Vesper train scene for CR, so it seems that first-meeting-the-Bond-woman scenes do give them a good flavour, especially what with that and the FRWL one.

Shirtless entering the room ? Nahh -- Bond getting his itch scratched by the villain swinging a knotted rope while Bond sits tied to a bottomless chair.

    Shows commitment.
