Bond coming to Ireland could be great. We can get Kneecap to do the theme.
However, could it not be an IRA plotline? By all means have the film in Ireland but do not attempt any 'troubles' commentary whatsoever.
Seems to be a niche conflict these days. Troubles Porn. Even Disney have a controversial troubles-era programme.
Location, yes, but we don't need a 'history' lesson.
Maybe get Sean Bean to reprise his godawful turn in 'Patriot Games' and we can have ourselves a Goldeneye reunion.
A Martin Campbell movie.
Martin Campbell can only direct Bond movies!
Ways and means, chief. A friend of mine did a fan fiction a few years back, in which Bond went to Ireland. His contact was an Irish agent originally from the North. Some banter between the two, buddy-cop like. It was a laugh-riot.
No need to dredge up the troubles for a plot device and the North would be MI5's beat, anyway.
I'm shying away from this discussion, since my knowledge of the situation is limited, but Martin Campbell did make a superb Zorro movie too. Just wanted to point that out :)
With Antonio Banderas as 007!
He did Edge of Darkness tv and film. The tv show being superior.
Yeah Devil's own was mad. Actually, twice Harrison ford fought the IRA (Patriot games was the other). He must have it in for them!
Have you seen that saint Patrick paddy bergin movie? Criminal overuse of his accent there!
Red Grant in FRWL novel has a connection to Ireland. Robert Shaw lived and sadly died in Mayo.
Indeed, he is an IRA man
I’ve no idea why Patrick (Bergin, not the saint) didn’t have a bigger career in Hollywood. It seemed to be all going in the right direction for him and then within a few years, he was on the scrap heap.
Martin Campbell directs.
I’ve actually bumped into Flatley quite a few times and he’s an entertaining guy - just keep him away from your wife if she’s tall and blonde…
Fleming probably hated the Irish. Seems to have hated everyone else.
I think that's the mindset of almost the majority of British people in World War 2/the Churchill Era.
No excuse.
On a doomed mission to Skegness...
Really ? Craig's Bond was VERY Euro-centered, though with good doses of other locales. If anything, I would have thought a break from Europe would be in order, other than, perhaps, London scenes to hook up with Sylvia Trench, get the assignment, flirt with Moneypenny and head out. One thing's for sure, though, they won't violate the law against having Bond in Canada.
Very Italian centric.
If Bond could borrow anything from Le Carre it is to use those gritty European locales. The locales should be more varied across the next actors tenure. Let's use Romania, Estonia, or Slovenia. Something like that. The European culture is under represented.
With Amazon they might want to use more American locales which I am against unless it's an exotic locale or something like New York.
Canada is a bit like Ireland when it comes to Bond to me: both great countries and wonderful to visit, but neither feels very Bond to me for some reason. Not very exotic somehow, I can't put my finger on why. Australia probably too, and obviously that's also a great place. But there's something not very 'spy' about them.
But, y'know, they could pop up in the next one and be brilliant, may well be wrong.
