Prove it ? :-c
He has some of best scripts for a new sexy Bond-Man .
The other four brought something new to the role ie Connerys menace,, Lazs' emotion, Rogs' humour, Tims dashingness and Dans brutality. I am pushed to know what Brozzer brought to the role?
Because he missed out on TLD (thank the lord) he was sort of the heir in waiting. Therefore he slipped into the role but didnt had to TRY. He slipped the tux on and everyone accepted him and this lead to complacency on behalf of himslef and the scriptwriters.
It was obvious the hard edges didnt work they tried it in his early films and tried to make him more rounded by giving him a damaged arm. But that wasnt successful. So thye concentrated on humour. Even the most jaded fan will admit you could throw him a gag, The danger of this is that it can get out of control with the humour or OTTness of a film and we can end up with DAD.
He's good. He is not great and seems to have a legion of fans who came to Bond via the computer game. But to be frank, he is outgunned by the two powerhouse Bonds either side.
Got the Bond looks, love how he says the famous mighty words: "Bond. James Bond." and he always felt like he was Bond to me.
Many people say that Brozza didn't bring anything new to the role but was there much he could bring at that point that was completely new? There had been 4 very different approaches before him. I'm not really sure what angle you could do that hadnt been touched on before.
A lot of people say that Daniel is the second coming but Is he really THAT different to Dalton (aside from being a 38 year old "younger Bond" - a decision probably made by the creative team rather than him). D
Personally I think Brozza was more than capable of being tough and playing a slightly darker spy We see little snippets of this throughout his Bond films and elsewhere I was gripped by him in The Fourth Protocol - a role I thought he did very effectively.
I can't deny though that there wa certain "pleasing all demographics" philosophy that ran through his films. I really do suspect though that the creative team is more to blame for that than Brosnan is. I don't think it was Brosnan's idea to come up with the cgi wave or the "saved by the bell" lines in DAD.
Especially Connery, Moore, Dalton and Craig very much carry their films by their strong performances. Brosnan did good films, but he didn´t carry them like the others.
And, after having seen two Craig movies, I think at least Connery, Moore, Dalton and Craig make Bond appear rather British, whereas Brosnan had this Irish-American way of speaking, which makes him unique and bland at the same time.
It's funny, I remember reading an interview where, prior to meeting him, colleagues of the interviewer (mainly male) perceived him as smug, arrogant etc but soon into the interview he seemed sad and like someone who wasn't happy in his own skin. Maybe it's just me but I can't help but think this sounds familiar (someone who is darkly handsome, outwardly confident, perhaps a bit too confident, but troubled at the same time and having to put on a mask to hide his inner demons).
Maybe Brosnan really isn't too disimiliar to Bond in real life.
All of Brosnans films (barring Die Another Day which took commericalism to a whole new level) were brilliant. even still Die Another Day (despite its faults) wasnt as abysmal as Daniel Craig's Qantum of Solace which i would rather pull out my nose hairs with a rusty pair of pliers than watch it agian
Quantum to me just felt very...unremarkable. Whether you love or loathe Die (probably the latter for most people) the last thing you would describle it as is unremarkable.
But nothing can pardon the travesty that is TWINE.
Now Brosnan is by no means the best and by no means is he even great but there's no excuse for some of the flack he gets. Imo I think Brosnan out of all the actors cherished the role of Bond more than anyone else. You can telll he koved playing the part and it's a shame his movies post GE didn't keep up or surpass the standard set in his debut. My last thoughts on this is, I think we should count ourselves lucky and show Brosnan appreciation and respect for sticking with Bond through a very diverse era.
I like him but he was too excited to be Bond, too into it, along with everyone else that was making the movies at the time. Bond became a parody of itself and too cliched with OTT action scenes, rather than good films. But I can still enjoy them for what they are.
