    If Spectre is amazing, then the Craig era will be one of the best Bond eras ever.

    Thomas Newman will compose the music for the upcoming Spielberg film Bridge of Spies (which means that film will be the first Spielberg movie since 1985 not to be scored by John Williams). The film will be released in October. Newman is also scoring the upcoming Pixar film The Good Dinosaur, to be released in November.

    The question is: will Newman have enough time to deliver a truly great score for Spectre?

    Mabey Alexandre Desplat should have done the score of Bridge Of Spies. But he already have a lot of work for this year, made him not avaible. But Newman is also bissy with Finding Nemo 2 for 2016.

    The music is my main concern about SP at the moment. I'm really hoping Newman ups his game for SP.

    @Getafix You're right. Lets hope he pulls it off. He does have other commitments for other films too, but I think he will do a great job on SP.

    It's been said before - but I hope he does away with these god-awful electronic rythms that have plagued the series ever since Arnold took over.

    Something orchestral & organic would surely be more in keeping with the tone of the Craig films.Making a 007 score that features brass & wind sections doesn’t automatically mean you are copying John Barry.

    Why are there so few Barry inspired composers? We have plenty of dire Hans Zimmer clones...

    But not very many brass or wind sections were used. I wouldn't exactly call either CR's or QoS' scores orchestral...
    MR & OP are probably the most organic, orchestral Bond scores.

    I thought QOS was Arnold's best score so far.

    Arnold is the best alternative to Barry for me. However, unfortunately Mendes probably forced the unrequired change to Newman, who's score for SF was passable.

    Just watched the SP teaser and am completely blown away. Stunning cinematography and very dark and foreboding.

    The music is excellent and adds to the tension. I wonder if Newman composed the music for the trailer. If so, we are in for a real treat when the movie is released.

    I really, really hope that was Newman. It sounded too good for it to be anyone else, even a trailer music production company.

    For those doubting Thomases who think Newman doesn't have the orchestral chops for Bond, here's a selection.


    Would love something as rousing as this in SP.

    That's patent rubbish. Both CR and QOS use a great deal of electronic loops, synth patches and sound design--more so than SF.

    They sounded very classic to me. More classic in 'sound' than SF. I disagree.

    The teaser trailer music was very good, very errie.
  • BB mentions in one of the recent interviews that Thomas Nemman wrote some music to accompany the scènes for the shooting of the day of the dead sequence in Mexico. So I guess the extras had some background on set music to dance/walk to.

    The twinkly Bond theme in the teaser trailer after the line about the hurricane kills any doubts I had about the SP music.

    The teaser trailer music was most likely not written by Thomas Newman, but by Pfeifer Frankfort. It's a company that specializes in high-end trailer music. They also did Casino Royale and Skyfall. So the music in the trailer is no indication of what the soundtrack will sound like, as the trailer music from Skyfall wasn't either.

    I think you used the wrong choices there to show Newman off. The Horse Whisperer is much better (did you know Barry was originally planned to score that film, until Redford changed his mind after using Newman examples from Shawshank during filming..?)

    I read somewhere that the bulk of Beyondness of Things was the soundtrack to THW.

    Meet Joe Black is a far better soundtrack too, as is the end track and credits `So Was Red' sequence from Shawshank, which is just brilliant - absolutely superb, up there with the best of Barry!

    If Newman pulls something more along these lines out of the bag, I'll be happy.

    Teaser trailer music was very nice, but it seems not by Newman.

    The movies looks to be grand in scope.

    The soundtrack must match what's on screen, and at least surpass what was used in the trailer for the respective scenes (particularly the trip on the lake to White's hideout and the stealthy walk by Bond through Waltz's audience).

    I'm quietly hopeful that EON & Mendes will whip Newman into shape for what is going to be an epic Bond film by the look of it.
