I was gonna quote this and then just type 'Nope' but I feel I should give more than that. A film titled 'SPECTRE' deserves better than Ellie Goulding. In fact, this news makes me quite angry. I'm now angry at myself on top of that for being so petty.

And before anyone asks, no, I don't like her voice. But for pleasantry's sake I'm going to pass this off as 'just my opinion'.

I have never heard her. Can someone give me a couple of song titles of hers, then I try to look her up. Thanks. :)

Well one aspect of the film I'm guaranteed to not like if it's her.

There was a time this country produced exceptional musical talent but those days are long gone, there was a chance to let Britain's last truly great band to do the job but instead we are going to get this vanilla choice.

Babs, Mikey have a word with yourself.

To think the flack that Jack White got for a AWTD, I pretty much sure I'll think that is far more exciting than what this overrated dull singer will deliver.

The article said "probably". People have been saying Sam Smith has "probably" done it for ages. It's just a rumour. I won't believe it until it's from the mouth of Eon.

True, but you have to admit her tweet is quite random and questioning.

I said if it's her, to be honest outside of The Arctics and wild card rumour of Depeche Mode all the choices have been truly dull and predictable.

Typical we get what could be one of the best Bond film ever but all likelihood the theme won't be fit to licks it's boots.

I guess it makes sense some the toss that Connery & Moore put out and got gold afforded them, Daniel delivers the most committed Bond of the series and he gets this guff.

I seriously hope it's not true but I'm getting used to being disappointed what with the news of Hannibal (my favourite show on TV at the moment) all likely not getting a 4th Season because it can't appeal to the masses.

Brilliant news if true. Also I hope the gun barrel remains at the end!

It seems that they are really out to get you.

That said Craig got the best themesong since Aha with his last movie as 007, so do not complain as it is the only one that ever won an Oscar when earlier tunes should have won them. But I guess Cubby had a better sense of what worked and probably listened and trusted John Barry.

I like her song "Lights" but if she is the choice I find it, on the surface, uninspired.
I like lights but as always I was hoping for a more rock song like YKMN and live and let die but I will give Ellie Goulding Spectre (or whatever it winds up being called) a shot

However can I hope for the impossible and her tweet means that title song is a note for note cover of Paul McCartney and wings live and let die sure everyone here will be pissed but I would be happy lol

Oh god, I hope not. I have been wanting the gun barrel at the beginning ever since casino royale. I think it deserves to be at the front now. Its more thrilling when it opens the films. I've heard it is, too.

And for Ellie Goulding, she doesn't have enough of a powerful voice like Adel

I read that as sarcasm on @LeChiffre's part....

Could be worse (Smith) but oh so much better. Almost every major singer and band in the business would love to get this job, and EON has used Americans before so being British doesn't seem to be a factor. But one thing that makes me skeptical, is that EON reps are control freaks. Nobody gives even the slightest hint about anything remotely important with the film, unless EON announces it first. It also seems way to early for any news on this, particularly coming from the singer. And this is stuff coming directly from Smith and Ellie, not leaks from the recording sessions. So I kind of think Smith and this girl are both playing games with the press and fans.

I refuse to believe the Ellie Goulding rumours. I don't hate her. She's very good at what she does in the Pop world. But I think we need another powerful voice for SP. I think we're overdue for a male voice

You've hit the nail on the head as far as I'm concerned.

What a disappointment for me (IF true, and I think EON has become way better at secrecy. So I think it's not true, but....). I'm listening Ellie Goulding's discography now on YouTube and all I can think of is "Mehhhhh :-S". Her music sounds like so many of these artificial dub-step pop entries. It's like a Britney Spears 2.0, she sounds like another candidate of The Voice. That's why I never liked her biggest hit "Burn". Ellie for me sounds like the Lynn-Holly Johnson of songstresses, unoriginal, too commercial, and rather irritating.

Moreover, after Adèle this is quite the demotion for me....artist-wise. "SPECTRE" needs a big big artist, especially vocally. Michael Bublé, Goldfrapp, Sam Smith, Jonathan Jeremiah, Laura Mvula, Rumer, Ray LaMontagne or bands like Hozier, London Grammar or Florence & The Machine. Much more inspired choices if you ask me. The latter actually released a new album and was entirely produced by Paul Epworth. And imagine if Thomas Newman orchestrates/conducts this!

Also a question that hasn't been answered yet: Could Epworth be involved in producing/composing the "SPECTRE" theme song?

Florence & The Machine with "Delilah":

Could it perhaps be that Sam Smith was the artist who was chosen as of December, but his vocal cord issues forced EON to look elsewhere for the part?

I'll let you off mentioning Buble, the worst idea ever. However, if you look at the rest there's only one name that makes commercial sense to EON. Sam Smith was the only artist in the world last year to sell 1m albums in both the US and UK. Even the big guns like Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift didn't achieve that. Don't get me wrong, this isn't the criteria I would personally want a Bond theme to be based on, but it seems they do these days.

You think it will still be Sam Smith? I have a feeling his denial is kind of.....fake. And let's face it: Lying is the best way to stop rumours these days with social media :-).

I do. If you remember, Adele was in the frame for around a year before SF. Other names came and went, but it was always going to be her. I get a similar vibe with Sam Smith.

Did not know her and her songs unless I checked her on YouTube. Not that bad, but not that good either. Maybe these are just rumors or meant to sidetrack the media. The first time Adele was tipped to maybe do the SF song, was, when she alerady had recorded it. And actor-wise Christoph Waltz was named to join the SP cast was, when he was confirmed to do so. So if Mike and Babs want things to remain secret (apart from the SONY leask, which was not their fault), they managed to keep things secret or actually support rumours to help it to keep secret.

She'd been in talks from early 2011 and recorded in October of that year. There were rumours circulating before that, perhaps August, but definitely September.

I know. What I'm saying is maybe after finding out about the issues, Smith had to back out, as he and EON both knew by the time he'd repair his vocal cords, it would be too late.

Whether it won an Oscar or not it doesn't really live outside the credits as a great song, it's fine with them but Cornell & Arnold's YKMN was much better and the best since TLD in my view.

Some might accept substandard just look at TND, TWINE & DAD but I hope for more, as good as the Barry era, not a chance but they could at least aspire to it in some way.
