I quite liked the addition of OHMSS. A nice retro touch. Perhaps the tune was used to match up with the snow based action in the film. Who knows, the finished film may not have those notes of music. May be for the trailer only.

As I said thousand of times, I'd love to hear the OHMSS theme in SPECTRE (or in any future Bond, for that matter, but SPECTRE seems the most suitable one because of the snow sequences), but I doubt it will happen. They'd have to pay royalties to Barry estate and Newman doesn't seem comfident about using other people's compositions (he didn't rely much on the Bond theme).

Well if you check out the new Spectre full length trailer. You can hear OHMSS loud and clear. Wonder if the riff will be featuring in the end result?

Barrys estate. I think if you did some reasearch would would find that EON/Danjaq retain rights to all imagery and audio. All Barry would get is his MUPC and PRS payments. Only for only 4 years then OHMSS and the music attached to that film will be public domain after 50 years 2019.

Recorded specially for the trailer by Newman, I hear.

Where did you hear that if I may ask?

I haven't heard it from a source, but I agree with Antovolk. I collect pretty much thing Bond, especially on the music end, and haven't heard that particular arrangement or recording yet. Original music for trailers seems to be getting popular. The second trailer for the new Star Wars movie also featured a new arrangement written and performed for the trailer, done to great impact -- it builds with every image shown onscreen.

While I can't imagine any (but maybe a passing nod) of the score to OHMSS in SP, it was very good to hear this theme again. Nice surprise. It's one of the greats.

And,I would add, I hope it's the general direction that Newman is working toward.

I liked that the OHMSS music was in the trailer. Put a wry smile on my face.

As I've said elsewhere, I'm quite certain this score is going to be a work of art.

Newman will bring the goods for SP. The doubters will be silenced.

You have no idea how much I would like to be silenced that way. The Arrangements heard in the Trailer are the opposite of a work of art. They could as well have given the Job to Hans Zimmer, he wouldn´t have produced anything worse. In fact, judging by the Trailer Music, Zimmer would have done better.

What did you make of the theme at 0:19? I do think it sounds a tad 'spoofy', or like a video game.

I know how you feel. I had to endure garbage from 1997 to 2002. That composer improved in his last two outings, and I expect Newman to live up to his reputation with SP. Nothing looks disappointing so far, although the title track is the wild card imho, not Newman.

Run-off-the-mill Video game stuff. It lacks a bit the Punch I would expect from a spoof.

As in the first teaser, the glockenspiel-like Sound we hear when we see Oberhauser at the Meeting is inspired.
The rest is someone not used to loud scores trying to be loud.

After SF I didn't want Newman to return and although the music for the trailer was exclusive only for the trailer I liked what I heard and if Newman took the time and effort to recreate Barry's arguably best score, then it does seem that Newman this time around has got his mind right.

However, I'm still sceptical because trailer music is one thing, especoally when you use someone else's masterpiece music as part of it but an entire score for a movie is another. I really do hope Newman gives us something wholly special and memorable.

I thought using the OHMSS tune in the trailer was a nice touch although very unexpected, I am hoping this may spring the possibility of the 007 theme returning for Spectre!!! [-O<

I just can't see the 007 theme working. It's going to need a major sound upgrade.

The music for the Spectre trailer sounded a bit spoofy and amateurish in parts. The quieter moments of the first trailer had plenty of impact, especially during the Spectre meeting. The OHMSS theme was a nice touch though.

There has been a lot of complaints here over the last little while that Newman's music is timid (elevator music is the most common criticism).

Well, I didn't hear any elevator music in that clip. There is significant 'punch' in the trailer music, and we seem to have it all thrown in (Classic Barry OHMSS for those who say Newman is not respecting the legacy, Bond theme for those who have been clamouring for it, throwbacks to the amazing techno thumping from the SF teaser trailer etc). It's almost as if Newman has been reading these boards and is responding to the naysayers and Arnold fanboys.

Mark my words. There will be no complaints when this score is released. I'm sure of it.

Well actually I don't think this is Newman - haven't read any confirmation on this. And it seems the producers usually go with an outside team for the teasers and trailers. But I liked it nonetheless!

In my book, Punch doesn´t simply mean turn up the volume, but make it sound meaningful. The same goes for throwing things in. It´s not just what´s in it, but what comes out of it. To present the OHMSS theme the way it is done in the Trailer is not exactly what I´d call showing respect. Newman shouldn´t respond to naysayers or Arnold fanboys, he should simply create a good musical score.

The music for all of the Craig trailers thus far has been done by Pfeiffer Broz. I don't think it was done by Newman. Although if it was, I agree with you.

I agree completely. This is just a trailer and I don't think it's appropriate to jump on the music either way.

Let's wait for the finished product before passing judgement on the musical score. To do otherwise seems to suggest a desire to indict Newman before the fact, which is unfair imho.

It maybe unfair but it's not without justification. The man for many people dropped the ball with SF, which was a landmark movie celebrating 50 years. People had such high hopes for Newman but left many people deflated. It's only natural that there is scepticism but I for one sincerely hope Newman delivers a powerhouse of a score that shuts up the naysayers and sceptics.

That may be true, but many of us liked the score as well, and found it a refreshing change from Arnold's attempts at Barry imitation. I just find it inappropriate to be jumping on the trailer music, and by extension Newman, when he has only had one shot at Bond. Even more so when we know that his orchestral budget was deeply cut for SF compared to the comparatively wasteful QoS.

If they give him the budget and the time to do a proper job, he will not disappoint. From what I've been hearing, he has had time to work on and perfect this score, so we will see what Newman can do with SP.

Arnold's work on CR and QoS were very good imo, some of his best work and many people rate QoS' musical score highly. However, Arnold obviously isn't perfect but he gets the Bond sound. Although a moot point I'm of tge belief that Arnold would have done a better job with SF but that's just me. I hope you're right about Newman's work for SP because tge man has talent and this movie really needs an atmospheric and cracking score. Time will tell.

I love Thomas Newman, and I loved his score for Skyfall. It was fresh, exciting, interesting, and most importantly it had the Bond sound. It incorporated the Adele song masterfully - the Komodo Dragon track for example - . I trust in Newman, and I'm sure he'll do a great job.

I just don't get all the hatred against this very fine composer. He's one of the best composers nowadays.
