Hi @WillyGalore how to compare this with QoS (which i quite enjoyed by the way, and believe to one of the most underated JB movies of all time)? Because, without seeing Spectre yet i would say this would be the closest DC JB movie to Spectre?
Why can't Bond have a regular girl on the side and still be on missions as SC did from the get go with Miss Trench?
Are they doing Hunt's original idea for OHMSS with the film ending with the Aston driving off into the sunset and then the PTS for DAF starting with the killing of Tracy?
PTS of Bond and Madeline still together (married?) interspersed with action scenes of Blofeld escaping culminating in Madeline being assassinated and into the title song.
Then could have a full on adaptation of Fleming's YOLT. The early scenes of Bond having a mental collapse would appeal to Dan and Mendes sense of character arc and then a finale of Bond killing Blofeld (maybe even have Irma Bunt return?) and then ending up with amnesia would be a fine way for Dan to sign off his bleak, gritty era. Although it is rather too close to the ground they covered in SF.

Regarding the regular girl, i agree with you. Miss Trench still remains one of the best Bond Girls of the series (despite her minor role!)
I really dislike QoS so for me, SP is infinitely a better film. This is DC's best and most self assured performance as Bond yet IMHO.
#SPECTRE is the first in the Daniel Craig series to display similarities to the older movies. A Bond movie for the true Bond fans. Loved it.
I seen spectre last night and to be honest I left the cinema with my heart racing. The 3rd act just blew me away! I felt it had a real emotional punch - Yes fair enough the relationship with Madeleine and James could of had a bit more work, agreed - but for some reason mainly due to the good acting that it felt real, it felt genuine and because of how sinister Blofeld was combined with all that James has went through - it made me root all the more for the two of them. I just loved it and was beyond shocked that it actually had a happy ending - surely this is Craigs last?
Anyway, I loved the PTS, the spectre meeting, the train fight and the aeroplane stunts in Austria - the car chase for me to be honest was one of the major disappointments of the film. I was expecting this gritty high octane chase, we all heard in the build up how the cars were zipping around the vatican at 100mph and to be honest it was all a bit too light hearted in a scene that should have been full of tension. The ending also, we see flipping the switch and then landing, we didn't actually see him ejecting out of the car - it took them 30 days or thereabouts filming in Rome - the editing mustn't have done it justice, really poor scene for me. All the rest of the action sequences where up with the best of the entire series.
I have read quite a few moaning about the score but for me it was perfect, it wasn't a complete copy of Skyfall at all although it certainly had elements of skyfall throughout. The cinematography was probably one of the best I've ever seen. I personally loved the film and rate it far superior to Skyfall which was too slow, with weak action, a plot full of holes, no real locations - it was just a bit "meh" whereas Spectre had all the ingredients for a classic Bond Film. I felt Mr Hinx could have had more character, i was expecting him to be a bit more sarcastic and evil, instead he was pretty much like the henchman in for your eyes only, a brickhouse lol he had no real persona.
I loved the story, the character development, the back story, the old formula back with some new, the return of gadgets, the bond girls, the pacing (although it dropped briefly midway) - All in all I rate the film 4 out of 5, it's no casino royale but it makes my top 5 :)
It is pure speculation from my part, but I think Hinx might be in a clinic right now, nursing his wounds and getting better. I think we might see more of him, maybe freeing Blofeld from his jail?
As for Madeleine, how about seeing her breaking up with Bond in Bond 25? Kind of like DAF-FRWL novels with Tiffany Case. And talking of DAF, am I the only one who saw the elements they borrowed from this novel?
I find him far better than Jaws. Not nearly as comedic and he never comes off as a buffoon.
The fight on the train was, brilliantly choreographed.

First of all welcome to the forum (very nice to see so many new members this last few days). Going to your review, i have the strange feeling that mine will be very similar. I preety much have the same point of view as you in some aspects of the JB movies.
Just to check, my favourite JB movie is On Her Majesty's Secret Service. What's yours? cheers
And really like third act, train scene on. This is where the film IMO really hits its stride tone and pace wise. Wish the first half was not so sterile but this will do for sure.
PS. Newman leading his score into WOTW is a brilliant touch.
Am I the only one who noticed the guy had 5 barrels attached to his neck with a rope?
People who try to top themselves by tying a 10 foot rope to a lampost and then driving off usually rip their head off. It really isn't that hard to break a neck so to have him survive would be up there with Jaws landing in the big top for believability.
is it possible that swan falls for bond as she is recovering from the death of her father and is infatuated with bond as a father figure that's the only way I can explain how quickly she falls in love with bond but it does not explain things from bonds perspective

Nope you're not the only one. Others, including myself have expressed preference for SP over SF and SF'S a good movie but imo it's overrated and immaculately praised. CR is STILL the best of the Craig era so far.
BB reaction is priceless. Its all in the eyes...it was on YouTube earlier but is no longer available to watch. Maybe they pulled it because of all the spoilers that the host drops!

-Craig is bang on - an assured 'veteran' performance like vintage SC - I thought ALL the humour worked and pitched just right without feeling silly or forced
-I thought Q nearly stole the show in SF - he lights up every scene here and gets quite a bit to do (loved the Alpine bar bit)
-cracking PTS
-that's some seriously wacko titles which still don't disguise the lack of tune in Smith's song. On the subject of music, Newman is just doing Mendes a favour isn't he? presumably so Sam's canon feels 'cohesive' - phoning it in.
-this is more of an ESB origins story which unfortunately gives rises to a limp climax - Waltz is practically screaming 'I'll shall be back with a world conquering plan next time' at the end.
-I had a real problem with the third act which felt weak but was pretty much engrossed by the film up until then. Didn't notice the excess running time at all
-loved the Austrian stuff
-the Rome car chase was more Top Gear-supercar showboating - amazing how Moneypenny rummaging in her fridge can liven up a chase!
-an actual villain's lair! Loved the 'control room' and I really thought we were escalating into something a bit fantastical at this point
-Rolls Royce in the desert. Mad dogs and Englishmen
-beautifully shot
-Bond's marksmanship is remarkably accurate in this movie
-limpest set of Bond girls ever. For all the usual press (since..oh.. Dr No) about how it's different this time, we had - in order - 1)eye candy 2)Monica sleepwalking through it and 3) Swann, classic damsel in distress and probably the least interesting since, oh, Stacey in AVTK
More will no doubt occur to me. As, I said - mixed bag but plenty of good stuff
