SPECTRE Opening Titles Sequence

@Shardlake I agree, overall the sound/vision combination fits well but this isn't Kleinman's best, in certain ways the sequence feels slightly botched together.

@jackdagger So that part represents the funeral in Rome? I hadn't noticed it! It must be her.

For me, after having seen "Licence To Kill" in cinema's as my first ever film, I truly loved the last effort from Maurice Binder:

So then Daniel Kleinman replaced him for "GoldenEye", and I really had to get used to his titles. They were way more heavy on (dodgy) CGI and women crawling on these weird imagery of the Soviet Union.

Same goes for "TND" and especially "DAD". Daniel Kleinman had the disadvantage of rather dodgy CGI-effects back in the 1990's as well.

But hell, did he improve his efforts as of "Casino Royale". Stunning stuff! I especially like the "SPECTRE" titles, because they are the most erotic titles ever since Binder passed away. I love this slimy octopus crawling around those naked girls. Sexy, very erotic, and in a way very Brownjohn-esque as well:

Some other screencaps of the georgeous 'sexist' (I mean that in a positive way) portrayal of the women in these titles. And I really don't understand all the complaints of people that these titles are too erotic. These titles are a true homage to women, from Brownjohn-esque female silhouettes to actual female characters! By jolly, Ian Fleming would have wanted it this way!:

So in all honesty, I think the "SPECTRE" titles are by far not 'dodgy'. They should wet all guy's pants in cinema. And that's part of Bond too :-P.

I thought they were awesome, one of the very best. Although I must admit to feeling a little strange at being slightly turned on at the sight of the woman with tentacles sliding over her body :D

Must've been a real PITA job to do. "Oh man what a day. I had to wrap and drag weird octopus tentacles over the naked body of this really hot girl. I took hours because we had to do it in the dark...

...and then Daniel bleedin Craig James Bond turns up butt naked too - weird shit"

The SP title sequence seemed more traditional Bond to me than any of the previous DC ones (certainly CR/QoS but even SF) for some reason.

I haven't analyzed it or thought about why, but every time I saw the film, the title sequence just screamed 'old school'. It could have been the surplus of girls, the colours, the vivid imagery, or perhaps the LALD type mask on Waltz. not sure.

Yes at the risk of Brosnan era bashing again I now find the Kleinman titles for GE, TND and TWINE to be quite dated, cluttered and downright tacky. It's like Kleinman felt he had to fill every inch of the screen just because he had the technical means to do so.

Fortunately he now seems to exercise better self-editorial control. CR was a great modern evocation of 60s spy title sequences and there is just something rather epic about the SF titles.

Now I think it is the girls, in combination with the shimmering, luminous nature of each frame.

SF & CR were distinctively different, and less traditional in style for me. QoS had a consistent desert type feel for some reason on recall from seeing @Gustav's last post.

The SP one threw me back to the Binder sequences.
  • I think what I didn't like about the Kleinman titles from the Brosnan-era is actually something very simple: There was simply too much going on during these main title sequences. They were too crowded, too busy. There wasn't a more or less distinctive color connecting all the shots/images. And indeed, the CGI now looks a bit offputting.

Kleinman's work for the Craig-era looks way more...stylish. More nuanced and coherent. Thanks also go to MK12, who actually made quite a coherent desert/drought-theme. With the quality improvement of the actual movies, the titles have become equally Oscar-worthy. Add to that more low-key font styles (Century Gothic?), and even a return to Binderesque simplicity for the Bond titles ("SPECTRE") as well, plus magnificent CGI-work (easily 4K -ready), and you know that Daniel Kleinman finally is the man.

Seriously, did you have to post the same f****** thing in four different threads just to show that you're an idiot with no musical tastes and bad movie making perceptions?

I really like it. Fits really nicely, more akin to CR.

Yes. Did it bother you so much to scroll past? Or did you have to waste your opinion on me?

@domicgreene Thanks! The lyrics really stuck out to me for SPECTRE:

    "Black ocean, cold and dark
I am the hungry shark, fast and merciless
But the only girl that could talk to him just couldn't swim
Tell me what's worse than this"

"I've seen your best and worst
And at your worst, you're still the best
But at my best, I am the worst
    It's a curse"

"I can't fucking breathe, much less believe the truth
I pick up a gun, aim for the sun, and shoot
Better days, so unafraid in my youth
I can't breathe or believe the truth"

Outstanding!! Had we not already had Daniel Kleinmann doing the job, the makers of this video would have likely been getting the phonecall.
    Well done.

All he did was just replacing the theme song. Any idiot with Windows Movie Maker could do that.

Nope. My comment was relating to something elsewhere in the thread; a fan-made thing. Not this. No idea how my comment ended up here.

I know this should technically be in the Skyfall opening titles thread, but check out this re-do of Skyfall's title sequence.

    Really love 1:17-1:40

No problem at all. I think I managed to comment on something much earlier in the thread without realising it would appear pages later.

That is excellent work. If Kleinman is unavailable for B25, call Heebok Lee.
